Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where will we play the Lions?

Mate, he's given you two points in his previous post: the NT government pays for the game for marketing (i.e. it doesn't matter who shows up in the crowd, what matters is the broadcast showing off Alice Springs) and for entertainment for their own population, who wouldn't get to see AFL games in their own Territory unless the government paid for a game.

And if @Rod Grinter Riot Squad is coming across as.a "know it all", that might just be because he's from Alice Springs, and actually knows what is happening in the NT.

The but sure... at the end of the post made him come across as being [censored], the response shows it.

As for Alice accommodation, it has been booked solid for over a month due to the fact that Aussies are coming here in droves and one of our biggest hotels is not open, taken over by the government for COVID reasons and many small operators have to reopened, permanently closed, after losing all their customers.

But sure some hero from out of town is better informed.... talking of know it alls....

The AFL could be a little clever with the re-fixturing if they opened their minds a little and get a third team involved in some of these fixture changes.

As an example, as it stands, Melbourne hosts Brisbane (round 12), West Coast hosts Melbourne (round 21) and Brisbane hosts West Coast (round 23). Given none of these sides play each other twice, why not just switch the home teams around for each game (if borders allow).

This would mean Brisbane would host Melbourne this week, but would mean Melbourne would avoid playing West Coast in Perth later in the season. It could then move one of its games (i.e. GWS) to Alice Springs if things allow.

No team is disadvantaged with this approach. The AFL should look at doing this sort of thing where it is possible.

For the sake of $700k+ (especially if we get shafted out of Queen's Birthday) move the Round 16 GWS game there.

Exactly my thoughts. At home that game will give us very little revenue, in Alice we get our $700k. With no Queens birthday this year replacing the game in the NT needs to become a priority.

It only works in limited situations where there is a triangle of teams who only play each other once for the rest of the season. You've picked one example but I'm not sure how many more there will be, particularly as teams start to play their 5 return games.

I don’t disagree but you also need to think about us members who have once again paid for certain memberships that allow us access to a certain number of home games in Victoria.
We also need to take into account the membership revenue. Another disrupted season where we can’t attend games and some people may not renew in 2022 for fear of it happening again.
If we can play GWS at the G with crowds and that game is moved, I’m not sure how I would feel about it. Although I understand we need the money so would support the club either way. But not everyone would be so understanding.

NT government is broke as, have a gut feeling they are thrilled not to have to pay for the game and won’t help getting a replacement game

Excellent suggestion with some lateral thinking - exactly why the AFL would never consider it.

Erk! I'd lost track of how close it was!

Thinking: like my earlier Hawks reference, Pies ain't no crowd puller atm either! Maybe shift QB to ASP? With the MND sliders too of course!

True that, running at about $230 per game attended over the last season and a half right now. Club financial health comes first but gee it’s a potential stinger.

If not Alice lets just go to the Gabba. Will get a good crowd. We take the gate. Best thing for footy.

[censored] em we want a premiership, we need the 4 points to consolidate top 2.

We don't need to give these canetoad loving mongrels a leg up by playing at the Gabba.

We don't need there cash, they are up to their eyeballs in debt and they've got the gall to becoming big time Charlie's an calling shots.

We will make up the Alice game later on in the year against Hawthorn collect the cash and 4 points and be on our way.

Play at Giants Stadium, thanks AFL.

We're not dependant on the AFL anymore we pay her own way now, we'll make our own decisions thank you very much for the concern but we've got this.

Play it at the gabba.

Dees members, of which there are many up there get first crack.

Then just general admission. So neutrals will come- and there will be heaps of ex vic footy fans who will up for seeing one of tbe best games of the season.

So it might only be 50% lions fans.

Full house.

Friday night. The big light show and big game buzz.

Channel 7 love it. Our sponsors love it.

The team love it.

All coin goes to us. Maybe 700k.

The ground suits us perfectly. It is short and their forwards will have zero space.

And we can trap it in our forward half.

Our clean centre clearances will go 20 metres from goal.

Their scrappy centre clearances will go 40 metres from goal into tbe lever zone.

We will win.

And make one hell of a statement.

And a heap of moolah.

Stay at our tweed heads qld base and play pies at the gabba too.

Maybe Monday night football on the queen's birthday.

Big TV ratings. Better than a Monday arvo. Plenty of pies fans up there so we will get an ok crowd again

A bye the following week

Can plan the mini hub perfectly. Do a mid season reset and mini camp. Bring all the players up at some point if possible.

Move our gws home game to the Alice later in the year so we get that 700k.

Do it dees

I've come around to the playing it at the Gabba idea. I love it. It scares me without Langdon, but let's really test ourselves. The commercial side is very appealing too. Like your idea for the QBD game too.

I agree as well

We're 10 & 1 so there's a bit of a buffer there anyway but,  are we even concerned about losing games any more?

The team is playing top level footy and after that Friday night success against the Doggies,  I'm convinced that we can beat any team anywhere ... even on their own dung heap

Do the deal for the financials if we have to play elsewhere and then ... Bring 'em on!

Another +1 here for coming around to the Gabba idea. I love the brazen arrogance of it. We don’t care if you’re third on the ladder and on your own dunghill, we’re not afraid and we’ve got you covered. Thanks for the gate receipts, see ya in September.

Then the pies get to come visit us at our new Gabba fortress.

I'd question whether it is about having no cases or rather not having cases that cannot be linked to an existing exposure site or case. If all of the new cases are people that have been self isolating (3,000 Victorians are self isolating for 24 days and a further 12,000 until they test negative) and the whole state has been in lockdown for 5 days that should be enough for an exemption. It is also likely that other states will reopen their border within 24 hours of Vic easing restrictions which is what has happened in all of the recent circuit breaker style lockdowns.

With only four days before we're due to play Brisbane moving the game to Queensland is fast becoming a moot point (thankfully). Giving up a home game to the red centre down the track to recoup our $700k is a can we can kick down the road for a week or three but I'm open to the idea of us playing the QB game a week later (over our bye weekend) in order to get some clear air on the covid situation and hopefully have crowds. We know the Pies are unlikely to turn up (both on the field and in the stands) so should announce a call to arms for all our fans to turn up in numbers to fill whatever capacity is allowed on the day.

It was arrogance that led to us agreeing to playing two games in cairns last year and missing finals. Smartness beats arrogance. Play at a neural ground.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
