Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where will we play the Lions?

Would you prefer to fly in and out of Alice Springs (if permitted by NT) or hub in Sydney (meaning better preparation) for the Lions match?

I put it that way because if we are allowed to play in the Alice it would likely be a fly in fly out situation like we did in Cairns. However if we hub for a week or two in Sydney and play at the SCG or Giants then our preparation is more settled.

Hard decision. Finances must come into it, even tho I wish it wouldn’t.
Can we afford to lose the money? Because without a doubt fly in fly out means we likely lose the game.

Surely that’s not possible as Qld has closed off borders to Victoria.

Just another aside, does this put our QB match with crowds allowed in jeopardy? I’ll be ****ed off if that happens and they get the gate next season.

And a different point, if the NT indeed doesn’t happen for next round I would not be against us giving up the Giants at the G later in the year to play there. It’s low drawing anyway and there are no GWS fans on Alice so the crowd would be firmly in our camp.

As for Fly in Fly out, we just don’t seem to be able to bring it under those circumstances. I’d prefer we play in Sydney, personally prefer Giants stadium but I know from my brother it’s a pain to get to.

i think it's extremely doubtful there'll be crowds there if it's at the (mc)g

Given it appears all Victorian teams will be taking the show on the interstate road it's likely we'll play QB at an interstate venue in 15 days time.

Would you prefer to play QB at the G with no crowds and no gate or at the SCG or some other interstate venue and take some gate?

(sc)g with gate takings please

we're already set to lose up to $700k a a result of losing the game in the alice

losing any takings from qb vs the filth would be a massive blow to our bottom line

If this game is moved interstate or played with no crowds. Postpone the “Big Freeze at the G” to a Saturday night,  for our Home Game V the Doggies?

It will be either way, we won’t get anything close to a profitable game anywhere else. This is going to be another tough year for the bottom line. Thankfully memberships will help.

One of the first challenges next season for our new president, petition that next years QB be ours again. I’d settle for splitting it in half though.

If the choice is Alice vs SCG I would take Alice:

  • We get the $800k
  • The flight to Alice is 30 minutes shorter than Brisbane to Alice.  Not much of an advantage but not a disadvantage
  • We play Pies 13 10 days later so even if we have to FIFO there is plenty of time to recover.
  • Importantly, give the folks in Alice some enjoyment watching two top of the ladder teams.

Edit:  change 13 to 10 days.

Well reasoned. Would they allow crowds at the game? You would have to imagine all players/staff test negative before entering the territory.

Why not do it for the Essendon vs Melbourne match on a Saturday night given Neale's Essendon connection?

Edit: Not our home game.

I would hope they allow crowds.  If both teams FIFO the risk is miniscule as other than bus drives and other necessary folk there will be very little contact with local residents.

First vs Third would be a rare treat for them, one they may not see again for a very long time.  That is why I think it is narrow minded of the NT government if they don't allow the game to go ahead.

Wouldn't be surprised if Victorian AFL clubs/players in a hub are treated differently to other Victorians.

It's not stupid. They want to keep playing games while they can. If you give everyone a bye next week you then have to play 9 games the week after and again after that.

Using the byes over three weeks allows them to use some grounds repeatedly (e.g. SCG/Giants Stadium) to get through a week.

The hope here is that by the end of the bye period Victoria will be closer to "normal" and games can continue down here.

Exactly.

You would also think there’s a high chance this won’t be the last disruption to the season thanks to this gift that keeps on giving. Calling a bye round now creates a risk of making future outbreaks more difficult to manage.

I would assume there are ongoing behind the scenes negotiations going on. There are announcements left right and centre for other games being announced but nothing in regards to ours as yet with the exception of Sydney being floated as an alternative should we not be allowed into the NT.

You'd assume any exemption would require negative COVID test, hub-like isolation and a strict fly in fly out scenario.

Does it absolutely have to be our home game? Could still do all the hoopla like marshalling the troops at Federation Square and so forth. All the coin raised goes to Fight MND anyway.

Obviously Essendon would need to agree, but why wouldn’t they?

We play the Pies 10 days later

We would have to FIFO but pretty sure the Lions could go the day before so would have a better prep

I doubt the AFL would do it but for the sake of fairness and integrity they should be forcing both teams to fly on the same day to have equal conditions. It’s also worth noting that the match is a night game so it wouldn’t require getting up at sparrows fart, they could be on a plane at say midday and go to the ground early for muscle warm ups or have nap at the hotel.

And risk losing the original link to another Vic club?  Ownership is 9/10ths of the law and if they get a big enough turn out they might claim the rights to it and ask for it again the following year.  Might even go for another match against a bigger supported Vic club!

Gil won't say no  if there's the potential for a few more $$ in it at the gate.

Never give a sucker an even break...especially Essendrug!

Thanks for correction, yes 10 days.  I will go back and correct.

The AFL should require Brisbane to go on a FIFO basis as well.

That wasn't the case last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if we even fly into NSW ASAP to sweeten the deal in any exemption (if it looks possible) from NT.

Don’t know about that RN - it’s obvious to all and sundry that it’s our initiative. Organising it for an Essendon home game doesn’t make it any less ours. The AFL are shady but not *that* shady.

The most important thing I think is that the Big Freeze occurs on as big a stage as is available I think.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
