Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Having a think about the changes, will a bit of it depend on which ground we play at? If it's at the SCG, being a smaller ground, the idea of having a player that can run all day on a smaller ground might not be so required. I think at the SCG Hibberd would be really suited to the wing role, he has a penetrating kick and has an amazing ability to get himself out of trouble.

Hibbo’s almost certainly the least fit player on the list, even if they shrunk the scg in half I wouldn’t have him on the wing. Plus he’s needed down back.

If there was a defender to move it would be Hunt.

Two options IMO. Hunt or Jordon to the wing.

If Hunt to wing, someone like Bowey, Jones or Lockhart to fill his spot.

If Jordon to wing, Sparrow into middle to fill his spot. This option seems better.

No other changes needed.

Wouldn’t bother with Baker. He might be quick, but we never see it at AFL level. Average tank and skills mean he’s unlikely to make it as a winger long term.

Weid gets another crack. If he struggles and Brown performs well in VFL, then swap the week after.

One thing this year is you haven't seen Goodwin move players around too much to cover player losses. He has brought in players to do a job as a like for like.

I think thats the right approach. You don't want to change what is working and for example another game with our back 6 together is more important in the grander scheme than moving a Rivers or Hibberd or Salem to a wing..

If Langdon is out It is amost a certainty they'll bring in Baker,

I agree with that but I just don't rate Baker.

A bit harsh on Hibbo, bloke might not run from goal post to goal post, but he covers the ground at high intensity. I agree he is not the guy to play on the wing, but he is fitter than you give him credit for.

There are many posts suggesting Langdon had concussion and that was why he was subbed off.

can anyone point to a spot on the MFC or AFL websites that says he had concussion,

I have seen it in a paper. But not on any official type list.  Can anyone give us the drum !

Makes sense. Hunt to wing and Jones in backline.

And yes Sam gets another shot.

Agreed, Hibberd must be on Cameron - a real 'stopper' will be required - one that is a physical beast, as well.

Agree he has come back from a poor 2019 to a very serviceable 2020 plus is fitting in beautifully with all the defenders this year. For  his age he is nearly back to his AA form snd disposal agsin back to best .

At least another year if he wants it IMO.

Like Hunt to wing and Locky to mind the smalls of the Lions.

We must start giving some players an opportunity in case we get form or injury worries down the track.

This is if we need a replacement not experimenting or tampering with a winning team.

I would have Rivers as Hibbo might have to mind McStay for a while if we want Jake to keep intercepting.

When we got Lever he was up and down. I remember an Nt game where he showed us what he could really do with his intercept marking. He fell away again for a while.

Now he is a rock of consistency. I dont know how he does it but he just reads the play so well and gets in position very quickly to nullify teams forward entries. Its like his opponents need to man up on him.

Its great to see so many players doing what they were recruited and trained for and on such a reguliar basis.

Keep it up Jake.

Yes, Rivers is the other match - up for Cameron. He did a good job on the dogs small forward in Weightman who got one goal and one other where he got away and should have kicked a goal, but Rivers really hurt him the other way and overall took the points. Cameron though is another step up. Hibbo and Riv might share it.

I think Hibbo needs to take Cameron. Presumably Hunt/Rivers/Salem on Gardiner/bailey/Raynor?

May, Lever and Petty need to take Daniher, Hipwood and McStay. If Lever needs to zone off, not sure who would replace him. Perhaps it would have to have to be Hibbo, but not sure who could then take his (Hibbo's) place (presumably on McStay)?

It's hard to see on TV but I think the gameplan requires the defensive wingman (ie, the one not in the play) to run back hard when required to allow Lever to get off his man. Whether than means Brayshaw/Langdon go to Lever's man or whether they go to the nearest forward and the defender on that forward (ie, Hibberd/Hunt/Rivers/Salem) goes to Lever's man I'm not sure. In fact, I'm not even sure I'm right with this suggestion in the first place.

The game being at Giants Stadium for me removes Hibbo from the list of potential wingers, and he's also the logical option for Cameron. I would love to see Hunt given first crack at the wing, see if he can channel his twin brother for a bit. But I also worry as I'm not sure Hunt understands the running patterns that Langdon does, it's a lot more than just having the ability to run hard, and Hunt has managed to turn his form around on the back of being able to explode from the backline.

A few have suggested, and I wouldn't be against it, trying Rivers on the wing. Again, I worry that being a young player he hasn't developed his tank to be able to do what's asked on him.

I think the club is going to be very straight forward with this. No shuffling of the magnets, just bring in Baker for Langdon and back Oscar to do the job.

I would bring Jones into the side for Langdon this week given the Giants Stadium is small ground. He is flexible and can play midfield, wing or half forward.

Otherwise no other changes.

Replacing the Langdon wing will be a bit of a group effort. Brayshaw, Harmes, Jordon and Jones will each have roles to play on the wing.

I would be reluctant to change the back 7 by shifting Hunt or Rivers.

Weideman obviously needs to improve, but I am a believer.

For those that think bringing Oscar Baker back into the side, here is my take.

Baker is the Billy Stretch or JKH of the team- shows a bit of promise in the twos. Comes into the senior side for a game. Not up to it.  Gets dropped for a month or two. An injury occurs so he gets promoted again, and the cycle goes on until he is delisted after 4 or 5 years. He has been with Melbourne for 4 years and unlike many players who have been recruited since 2018 cant cement a spot. Skills and endevour not up to it IMO.

Good call Pates on this. The differentiator for me is Langdons running capacity and aerobic tank. Never stops and never (hardly) comes off the ground.

Hunt is fast for sure but not Lanfdons capacity so may not play similarly. Its not a bad idea, just that we shouldn't expect anyone (in the league genarally too) to be able to replicate Landgons coverage. Hunt at the back for me.

I think Hunt to the wing is certaiy the best call as many have mentioned.

Is he is our fasted player. Despite some great games and form reversal, he has been pretty ordinary in his last few games.

A run on the wing could do wonders for his confidence and his speed a huge advantage in that position.

I thought Jones could play back but t woulf be wise to bring in some young player and get games into them.

I just hope whoever they bring in just plays their role and all the boys get a bit nasty on the Lions and give it to them. Lions have had it nice and easy up here and no doubt will go trough their normal routine whereas I assume we fly in and out on day. Be a great win when we get it done.

I would not be messing with the set up of the back 6.. leave hunt where he is, he is playing his role.. no need to mess with that chemistry.

This is a free hit in a way.. so lets try someone on the wing... if its baker, then lets give him a go, if its Sparrow in and ANB to the wing then lets try it, maybe its Tom Mc plays up a bit higher.. try lots of things but dont mess the back 6 up unnecessarily IMO.

Im not convinced Jones can play the wing. Might be a good optuon down back but I dont think he would have the necessary tank for wing. Certaiy cant move Rivers although he would be perfect in the role. The guys is a gun in the making.

If not Hunt how about Sparrow?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
