Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

How about Toby Bedford for Langdon. He has the tank and has been in good form.

i dunno - looks to play his best football at vfl level in an offensive on-baller role, similar to another lightly bodied type like say a shai bolton who was in and out of the tiggas side as a small forward due to lax defensive pressure before being re-tooled as a mid

the only other true 'hard-running wing' player we don't have in our best squad at the moment is baker, but i'd definitely prefer sparrow to him; he too is another inside mid tho

i don't want gus moved out of the defensive wing role as he's in great form playing a very specific role

i can't fathom those calling for melksham to be dropped

So I guess Baker replaces Langdon?

That's a huge loss. Irreplaceable.

Agreed. Brisbane have been my biggest worry, and Langdon is an absolute gun!

Somewhat agree with bin man regarding Weideman. That said, his 2 goals were arguably the most important 2 of the night. But yeah, he was bad. Dropped marks he needs to take. And whilst his kicking action looks good,  it's wayyy too rigid and straight to me. It leaves no room for error. He is super stiff in the upper body and it seems like he has to drop it perfectly onto his foot otherwise he'll shank it.

Baker is a no for me. He is soft and poor defensively. Nobody will replace Ed’s shoelace let alone his running power. But the solution for me would be JJ to the wing and Sparrow to the guts.

Arguably the most complete performance from the MFC in the last 15 years, i can't imagine there being any unforced changed

Weid was okay, he got his hands to it alot, as he builds in confidence those will stick and he'll kick a bag. he's staying involved in the game a lot more than he has in previous years.

with Langdon a confirmed out, it's a matter of who they think is best suited to fill that role.

Id drop weed.

But I admit I may not be very objective.

Backed the dees over 39 points.

He shanked a shot to make it 42 points. Then his next two kicks, both of which should have set up scoring shots, were dead set clangers.

Id still drop him. One tackle. And 10 half jogs and coraaling.

Four possessions is rubbish.

Sure 3 goals, but 2 were gifts. And he dropped mutiple marks that he should have swallowed

Not true Binman, one was from a contested marks and the other was a good set shot, neither were gifts

Fantastic win.
I think that Weideman did not do enough to justify keeping BB out. ( unless there is an off-field issue) We are in a position to win the GF and we should not chose development of a player who has not produced that much over a proven goal kicker.

Other change: send a smaller percentage of inside 50 kicks into the pocket.  Wasn’t so bad this week but in generally we kick to the pocket, where it is much more difficult to kick goals. We should consider the chance of scoring from the entry in addition to the chance of getting the mark.

Tricky problem. Langdon is tough to replace. Don’t know the answer but I don’t think it’s Baker.

Whoever it is though has to be a “can run all day” type. I think I’m choosing between Sparrow coming in and Neal-Bullen to the wing, or Jones coming in as direct replacement. Either way it’s an obvious step backwards, but anything is going to be. Not too many spare Langdons sitting on the shelf.

No changes other than the forced one.

Out:   Weids   Melky   Langdon

In:    BBB    Sparrow   Bowey

Weids has anxiety, too much pressure on him to perform, can't find separation, can't leap and mark at the same time.

Melky hasn't enough output, not playing for 4 quarters, looking slow,  no longer winning 1 on 1's.

Bowey is kicking well at Casey, seems a smart decision maker, can find space and is elusive, a replacement for Langdon. Can go to the backline if not working well on the wing.

Sparrow needs more games at a higher level and can play as the inside mid and will do the 1 percenters.

BBB to be our spearhead, needs time to gell with the team.

I assume people realise we play a role based game its one in one out. Baker and Rosman play the wings at VFL. Baker was named MFC best player behind Caseys Munro in their last game with a 26 possession game on the wing. I would argue he got 70% of his possessions in the defensive half. It’s Langdon for Baker with Melksham on watch again for me.

While I, and others by the sounds of things, don't necessarily agree I like you reasons for each replacement. The Weid v Brown debate is certainly a tough one

Weids did better when we stopped having 3 Dees fly for the same ball.  Kicked more goals than Naughton did.

Langers is a beast and hard to replace - his kms covered are massive, he has great separation speed and is our path to many forward thrusts.  Like for dislike probably Baker.

Otherwise, no change.

For all you Hunt, Melksham, Gus and Fritta droppers week on week, I would have to say our worst player tonight was Salem. Shall we drop him?

Salem out, he was awful

Anyone in

Hows that?

I find the high-minded, condescending tone of these types of posts irritating and tedious

If we backed in every player, always, despite performances we would never make changes to the team

Salem has had one quiet game, not poor just quiet. The players you’ve mentioned have a had a run of poor games (aside from Gus who has played his role well all year)

I’m not one for knee jerk reactions. Players need a run of games to find form and prove their worth but we have some fringe players like Melks, and I would include Hunt also, who can’t afford too many poor games. We have players putting their hands up at Casey who deserve a go.

Fritsch was great last night and against North but has had a few shockers in between. Calling out his poor performance and suggesting he gets dropped is not hating or being reactionary. I’m glad he responded last night but if he had played another bad game then a spell with Casey might have helped focus his mind and been best for him and the team.

I notice you didn’t include the Weid in your group. Does that mean we are allowed to discuss whether he should be dropped next week?

Its unfortunate for Brown there is no VFL this week to impress.  Not sure he has done enough to force Weideman out.

The club is still experimenting with its 3 tall forwards.  Brown will get another go just don't think it should be now.
