Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is it not ok to ask about a member of the team or are they all perfect?

That's not the issue, we have a good win and all you can take out of the game is that someone didn't play as well as you thought he should have. Too much negativity Old, just enjoy the ride.

I swear at times it seems like you don't want success, that you would be happier just watching us lose. No they are not all perfect, but enough are playing well to give us a 10-1 start too the season.

How did you think Rivers went od? I was really happy with his attack on the footy and his ability to defend and stand up in contests, he's coming along real nicely I think and great to see him rewarded with a rising star nomination

I think our big test is going to be Brisbane, if we beat them I think we can win the flag. They have been gifted picks and have recruited well, they are a very good team.

Oh, Old Dee don't think i'm having a go at you I think you are a good poster but just a bit negative right now. ?

It would be difficult not to like him Dr. from the games I have seen ( not all of them ) I have yet to see him put in a bad one right from his first game. I know they are all different player types but he has been the most consistent of the three players we took in his draft year. Now that is not to say the other two are not as good but has been the most consistent. Actually I think we have selected three good ones.

Wow, my family think I'm negative. Bloody hell. They should meet @old dee.

Are we no longer allowed to discuss how a player played in a particular game now that we are 10-1?

Kayo? Can still watch fox footy programs on there.

Again thanks, Dazzle. But I'm afraid I'm a failure there, too. I have a $50 Kayo voucher from my son, but when I went to redeem it on line with its million-digit code (and what's the story with that?!), anally checked and re-checked, it wasn't recognised.

I have a short e-fuse, so Kayo remains out of reach then. For the time being...

So just saw this post match interview with Harmes where he describes his role against Libba and he makes some pretty clear comments about where and how he plays his best footy.

"It was good to have a tagging role again. It's where I feel like I play my best footy... I just tried to put work into him at stoppage and then after that work off him and try and use my running power."

Really good insights. It's clear that's his role when he plays defensive mid. It's not a purely negating role, but it's certainly a tag. He does it very well.

I’ve mentioned it on here before, but with no crowd present, Levers leadership on field was even more noticeable. He’s the general out there, like an onfield coach similar to Luke Hodge back in the Hawks prime. Those types of leaders are worth their weight in gold. Look at how well organized we are defensively out there this year, and he’s a prime driver of that. He barely had a voice by the end of the match when Richardson interviewed him!

Just a shout out to Jake. Having a great season, but also proving to be the leader we hoped he’d be.

So much so he almost lost his voice. Post-match interview, he sounded hoarse. Accurate comparison to Luke Hodge. When he was mic-ed up during a match couple of years back it was so impressive to hear his constant encouragement/instructions/strategies etc.

Just watched the first quarter and one thing I took notice of was the amount of times Weideman got his hands to the ball first, but didn't take the mark. In the first 20 seconds he would have probably marked the ball but tripped and the ball spilled free. The next two times he flew for a mark only metres out from goal, Jackson flew as well and they both spoiled each other. During the course of the first quarter he got first hands to the ball but couldn't hold it.

What I'm saying is that if he had held his marks he would have been applauded for his game. There is only a small margin between an ordinary game and a really good game, he will start to hold them and when he does he will be a very good player for us.

Totally agree, was going to post the same, the fact that he got where he needed to be is very promising, and he is not being rebounded against, and the ball does go to ground for a small forward effort. And for all the 'drop weid folks', I am willing to bet that opposition coaches scouting the game, would have seen that he is a fraction away from being deadly dangerous, and he will continue to draw defenders, no-one will be taking him lightly. Patience grasshoppers, Kennedy took time too.

Let's see how Weideman does against Harris Andrews if he gets him as an opponent. That'll be a good yard stick for where he's at.

Even then, if he gets Andrews, all he might need to do is create a contest and snag one or two and that might be enough if it allows McDonald or Fritsch to get off the leash.

Harmes definitely plays his best footy when he has a run with role, the beauty of him is that when he’s doing that role it actually gets him more involved in the play and can become damaging on the other side.

His game on the weekend was outstanding.

At the risk of turing into the resident weed basher, Kennedy was way ahead at the same age.

This is weed's 2019 season and  Kennedy 2010 seaon, when he was the same age as weed in 2019

(Comparing them at the same age as weed is now throws up the 2020 season, which is unfair on weed because of reduced game time)

(Comparing them at the same age throws up the 2020 season, which is unfair on weed because of reduced game time. Though perhaps career average is also unfair. That said check Kennedy average that season, 2011)

It is a great tool for comparisons

I checked at SW at 2018 vs JK 2010 averages https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=19&type=A&pid1=4171&pid2=1610&fid1=P&fopt1=2018&fid2=P&fopt2=2010

as I felt that was a fairer median, and without doubt JK better, however SW not far behind.

My point is that JK didn't explode out of the blocks like a Hogan or Cameron but went on to have a substantial career. I really think last week was a step in the right direction, even before the 2 goals, he kept trying and didn't drop his head. I haven't seen him sulk the way Hogan and others have done, I reckon he does have the right attitude.

And when I think of him being close and just missing his marks, I think of the difference with (poor)Travis Cloke, who (while he had already become a fully established and impressive full forward) once his method was off, never looked like getting it back and drove his supporters mad (EAD Collingwood). Weid looks different, it looks like his form is rising not dropping away.

Totally agree it is a matter of perception (and frustration) .

I actually have to agree, not with the Razor Ray bit but the umpiring overall.

Unlike last week, I didn't think they were continually making mistakes.

There was a deliberate I didn't like, but generally I didn't notice them that much and that is always a good thing.

So who is the best then?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
