Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just watching the pre game show on Fox Footy.

Dermott couldn’t be less impressed with us if he tried.

Said we only won it because the Dogs continually turned it over in the first quarter and then went on to praise the Dogs as they broke even with us after qtr time.

He then went on to say that we had a bunch of players in rare form and implied that it’s not going to be sustainable come September.

Geez we must be the luckiest side in football.  The same thing happened against the Cats and the Tigers.  Uncharacteristic mistakes and some of our players playing 'beyond' their abilities.  Simon Goodwin how does he do it?

I wonder if Derm has backed the Dogs for the flag?

Agree with Sam W. It wasnt enough.

But I thought the club was hasty in dropping bb after three games so Im going to be fair and suggest they let Sam string a few before they pull the plug if required. Altough I am really torn bw doing the right thing by players and fielding our best team.

I think Bb and Sw are very different players. Bb is a classic full forward and Sam is a classic Chf. Tmac can play anywhere. On this basis I am inclined to play Bb as long as we keep playing Tom at Chf. Tom is also a better chf than Sam is so it leaves Sam on the outer Im afraid.its a very interesting problem bw Sam and Bb and the sooner we resolve it the better.

The truth be told Tmac has surprised everyone by his incredible form but we would not be anywhere the team we are without him.

I also think the club is worried about losing Sam given he is younger and still developing his craft.

But the window for a flag with this player group is this year and next and and outside chance the following. So if that means playing bb and Sam leaves its a no brainer in end.

Bb was the keading goal kicker for three years in a row prior to last year in an average team. He had one bad year. Tom had two so its not like bb who was better cant turn things around. If he returns to his previous form we will go gangbusters. I hope Im wrong and Sw starts kicking oodles of goals each week but all signs point to the player with the proven record.

Thanks for sharing Binman, my name is Engorged, Engorged Onion to be specific, my descent into Melbourne Demons capitalist consumption began earlier this year.

For many years I was apathetic to those that imbibed the content, mocking others that devoured the content and the impact it had on them, and their families lives. But now I am one of them, I have been so arrogant to believe I couldn't be touched.

I'll try the strategy of 'First Crack' as well as making contact with this Leppa bloke.

To really feed my addiction, this year I have really embraced catch up radio for specific segments.

Makes it so easy for an addict to get his dees fix. And because we are flying, heaps of any given segment is about us! And as a bonus no ads.

Radio catch up musts:

Max gawn extended interview on rsn breakfast, fortnightly from 7am.

Every Monday morning from 7am on rsn jimmy bartel leads a review of the the weekend's games. He rates the dees and we get a good crack. Good tactical stuff.

Tuesday rocketveade reviews the weekends game on rsn breakfast

Leppa on Tuesday on wheatley on sen.

Jennings thurs on wheatley on sen (though I'm not sure why, but he really annoys me)

Friday night on sen i have come to really like jordon Lewis.

And if super keen all the radio stations that cover one of our games have post match interviews etc

All of the above can be found on the relevant websites.

However my favourite two hours of radio is Sunday 12-2 on the abc.

12-1 Corbin Middlemas, Brett Deledio and Lauren Arnell on Grandstand AFL Sunday. Fantastic. Genuinely interesting and they have a great chemistry. My favourite radio show

Then 1-2 is Alistair Nicholson, Jake niall and someone else. More about the game in general and politics etc. But good nonetheless

Great pressure applied last night. It really is the most important thing in a football game. Interesting that we had less tackles than them but our pressure was better. Wish there was a stat published more widely that explains the pressure applied. I know on the TV coverage they sometimes show the pressure gauge which is interesting.

Have heard a number of Bulldogs people bemoan that they played into our hands by kicking long and high instead of lowering their eyes, thus bringing May and Lever to the fore. The  thing is, when we apply great pressure in the middle, it's much harder for them to lower their eyes. Lots more hurried entries into the 50 which is helping our backline hugely.

I did not know about these ones! My radio listening has gone down quite a bit and much more of a tv and podcast consumer these days but I do miss that feeling of switching on the wireless and having the good background morning game day chat. I might have to pursue this one.

I have not read all reviews so sorry if this has already been stated but I felt that last nights game was equal to the great win we had against the Tigers. Not one passenger and I thought that Gus played a great team game , every player worked hard and tried to help their team mates. I was blown away by their combined efforts, this team have found belief and that is a mighty Force to be reckoned with.

Go the mighty Dee’s.....!!!!!!

All good points. It is all about the pressure.

A crazy thing though is I saw after the game we were 167 on that pressure meter.  But they were 180!

I assume that rating is an average across different points in rbe game. Suggests their pressure was better. At least in terms of applied pressure (tackles, referred pressure, one percenters, spoils, smothers etc).

What i doubt it measures is the pressure of looking up and having sfa options to kick forward to.

We cover and spread so well teams are constantly under pressure to try and find a way through, or around us. The dogs are the best in tbe league at doing so. But were all at sea against us.

This is where coaches are going to earn their money. They will see what we did with Daniel last night and unfortunately aren’t stupid. They will look for ways they can combat hard tags and then it’s up to us to go  to yet another level tactically.

LOL... I was just at a local servo where I ran into a friend of mine, Essendon supporter BUT a really nice person (I know right, incongruous, go figure). We were gushing about how great last night’s game was when an irascible old bloke in a Bulldogs beanie walks past and says to me, “it’s s’pose to be a five kilometre limit ya know. Why dontchya bugger orf back to yer bayside mansion.” I said, “dude, you live about four blocks away from me. Guess that means we should both bugger orf back to our bayside mansions.” He realised I was indeed a neighbour and said (begrudgingly), “yeah nah, youse played brilliantly. Youse’ll definitely go all the way this year.” Totally made my day. ?

I wanted to post after our win last night, but I thought it was appropriate to finish an extended blog post outlining my life as a Melbourne supporter (which can be found here if you are into shameless plugs).

As strange as it sounds, the aftermath of last week was ultimately reassuring in hindsight though I would have much preferred us win than lose.

Were we down by 2 to 5% compared to previous weeks? No doubt.

Was the loss disappointing? Unmistakably.

Did it set up last night's win? I'd also say yes.

Nick Riewoldt summed it up well in the pre game. Melbourne turned up to play last week. It's just that the Crows played brilliantly as well and found a way to cut through our midfield pressure to get clean entry into the forward fifty.

Others may not have noticed it, but what Goody said in the post match presser impressed me when he was asked if this was the loss we needed to have. He usually plays a fairly straight bat, but on this he was unequivocal. There is no such thing as a good loss, and we like having that winning feeling. He refused to blame the deliberate decision and we moved on.

Appreciate what you did well. Fix what you didn't. Come back better and stronger. And boy, did we do that last night or what?

I believe the roots of last night's win were berthed in that response right there. And I believe this gels with our newfound ethos as described in the Age article so many have cited. It's so rare to know that when we get on top of a team, we mostly stay there.

As for individual efforts, we can talk about Clarry and Tracc. They deserve all the kudos they get. However, I would also like to shout out to Bailey Fritsch who recovered well after his mare in Adelaide. I noticed his pressure was up last night and best of all, he did the job he is paid to do: bob up for 2 to 3 goals. He rebounded well.

I really don't get the pile ons on Max during game day threads. He has developed a habit of dropping marks (and that needs to eradicated), but the rest of his game is still tracking All Australian. His tap work was brilliant last night and his dropping back into defense and into the wing at kick outs is still first class.

Also, Gus' game on the wing was symbolic of what we are now achieving as a team. This is a bloke who ran third in the 2018 Brownlow, who is just as capable of racking up 25 plus touches a game and playing the role that Tracc or Clarry could. However, he sacrificed his game to play the role of defensive winger.

Gus is the only one playing a brand of footy that is selfless, hard and disciplined. Since I've followed us, we've always been flashy mercurial and dynamic when we've been on. I much prefer the former to the latter, as that is what gets results.

Just read your blog post outlining your life as a Melbourne supporter Colin. It's an excellent read - and has some great historical footage of the MFC too! There is much in it I can relate to - especially the inspiring players and games you mentioned. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

A fair bit of talk about "only 28 points" but it's worth noting that the Dogs only scored 59. They needed another 50% to win and only scored 2 goals in the 2nd half.  It was great that we were able to convert our early dominance into scores. We're very hard to beat from 4 goals up at half time.

Marvel Stadium suits our style, it's going to be harder and take even more effort to strangle the Dogs "width" game at the MCG.  I think it's good we have them there again this season to refine the style. FWIW I think we will be well suited in Geelong in R23 at that narrow ground.

Makes for tough games to watch.

I thought Luke Beveridge was deluded, cheap and ungracious during his presser. He said 28 points was nothing, That when he gets 4 players back, just wait and see how good his dogs really are! Shows the same signs of twitter and bisted self indulgence as Scott, Hardwick and CLarkson.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
