Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It’s counterintuitive that the lockdown isn’t working and more people are doing the wrong thing, but here we are.

Clear that more people aren't adhering to the rules, but the lockdown is working. If not, you could add at least a zero to those case numbers, and similar for deaths.

Well they were and I find your gratuitous advice to me to be disrespectful and full of inaccuracy.

If that's your way of avoiding battles I suggest you change your tone and method of posting.

Yeah sorry, didn’t phrase that correctly. Should have said that the lockdown isn’t having the same result as last time. 👍

This is exactly right.

Something that really does my head is so many people who oppose lockdowns seem to consider avoidable deaths and hospitalisations as some sort of abstract equation, the price to be paid for 'freedom', rather than tragic events that will echo for decades to come.

But what about the awful toll on mental health and resulting suicides i hear them say.

Well what about it?

One, that line of argument completely ignores the fact that having family members and friends die or get really sick causes people's mental health to suffer - not to mention the mental health of those who get sick.

In my life nothing has caused me greater emotional pain than the loss of people i love. Nothing.

Two, suicide rates are actually down in Australia. Go figure.

How pathetic is it to be lectured by right wing media trolls from the states commenting on our approach to keeping people from dying and becoming sick when hundreds of thousands of Americans have tragically lose their lives and millions  more have felt the emotional toll of that loss. Even more tragic is avoidable deaths continue. Thousands per week.

I know which county i prefer to live in - one that values the sanctity of life.

An interesting phenomena here has lockdowns became bipartisan as soon as Delta hit. Same goes vaccine mandates.

Any chance WA closes its border to COVID states for the entire 2022 AFL season. If so, hubs will be back on the agenda I'd say.

It most certainly won't be opened any earlier than April.

If they cannot join when the competition starts in 2022 then they sit out the year for mine.

Zero chance the AFL is bending over backwards for 2 teams.

WCE and Freo can come hub in Victoria or WA needs to open their borders / allow AFL exemptions.

The AFL can't afford another season ruined by Covid.

WA are on track to have 80% vaccinated by December and if rates hold 90% by the end of the year.

I understand why he wants to keep the state at zero cases for as long as practically possible but surely 90% is the limit.

After that you’re just delaying the inevitable and punishing your own population.

The bigger challenge for the AFL will be dealing with positive tests within teams.

That is a solid point that I'm guessing some haven't given much thought to.

The AFL has actually been assisted greatly by the lockdowns, as some players would certainly have contracted the virus if they were running around town.

Hopefully it can only be caught once, otherwise we face the prospect of team lockdowns indefinitely.

Athletes are testing positive multiple times in the US. Some of them are using it as a defence on why they shouldn't get the vaccine after repeated positive cases and antibodies and in fairness they do have some case there (at least more than those who flat out refuse).

They've relaxed the close contact and testing procedures for vaccinated NFL players, but there's still circumstances where some players are missing games.

I think after 2022 it should be presumed everyone is vaccinated and been exposed to covid, so testing will only occur on sick people and contact tracing won't be happening. But 2022 will be the year of difficult decisions about what to do with exposures and isolation periods.

Those athletes don’t understand these vaccines aren’t sterilising vaccines. That’s on both public health messaging and the disinformation/anti vax campaign. They’re doing exactly what they were designed to do.

People should listen to some Sam Harris for rational and critical reasoning (that’s not aimed at you)

The player I referred to was Jonathan Isaac who outlined he reasoning why he feels protected after having covid. Whether you're protected by having covid as much as by getting the vaccine is up for debate. Reinfections seem higher than breakthrough infections, but in a fit healthy athlete there might not be much difference.

Of course he's still wrong, because having covid then being vaccinated is the best possible situation. It makes you super immune.

Still being worked out, but from what I can see, having the virus gives you some immunity for 6-8 months. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/how-long-does-immunity-last-after-covid-19-what-we-know

Vaccines and boosters the only way out. If you think you can depend upon your low BMI or your impressive pecs to get you out of this, you're cruising for a bruising. This bloody disease is like a heat-seeking missile - it'll seek you out, hunt you and your loved ones down.  Every day we hear the various CHOs saying something along the lines of 90% of those hospitalized are unvaccinated.  All those fools ( I mean the unvaxed, not the CHOs) are doing is providing a breeding ground for mutant strains. God help us all when they emerge.

I recently read the following from a person in the USA.

" I don't need a vaccine I have an immune system and God on my side"

That is what will lead us into 2022 Jara. I suggest there are lots with the same ideas in Australia.

Why is it that those with this belief about God can't see the possibility that vaccines were invented with God's assistance?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
