Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Are you confident this is correct? Are you sure it's not more accurate to say that "Vaccines do not prevent all people from getting or spreading the virus"? In other words, don't these vaccines work by reducing the number - quite significantly - of people who will catch and spread the virus?

Yes I am confident.

Once more for good measure:

Vaccines do not stop you getting or spreading the virus. They minimise harm to the individual.

Once again, this is simply wrong.

And it is really dangerous misinformation, not to mention unhelpful.

I find it funny, Dan and other premiers you won't be allowed to travel, get into pubs, events and sports if you aren't double Dosed, then you have AFL saying no to compulsory jabs.  How will players play if they can't travel or get into grounds if the rest of us can't

The AFL haven't taken a side yet, they are "considering their position", whatever the hell that means, probably whatever the AFLPA wants.

I'm not against the AFL saying to players that if they want a career in the game they must be fully vaxxed. Effectively its a career in the AFL with vaccine or find a career elsewhere. Still not forcing them to get vaccinated, but forcing a choice.

As you say, it's possible that players deliberately choosing not to get the jab may find their lifestyle and career very limited regardless, especially if it's a condition of entry to some states.

40-50% reduction in household transmission.

I would speculate that it would further reduce risk of transmission to others outside the household (due to lower viral load/infectivity).

Exactly.

Stop transmission? No, not completely.

Reduce transmission? Yes.

Which is one the reasons why it is so important to get Vax rates up in Sydney and Melbourne

And why it is so important we now suppress the spread.

And why misinformed views suggesting vaccines do nothing to stop the spread are so dangerous

Absolutely. And you only have to look at many European countries where a mid-July increase plateaued and has now started to fall as it runs up against 80+% vaccination rates (amongst adults). Vaccines work. Here in France we have full crowds at the football again ... but they've all been vaccinated (or can show a negative test result for the few laggards).

Next hurdle to get over is that schools return across Europe around now, and not all of those kids are fully vaxxed as 12 - 17 year olds have been last cab off the rank. Fingers crossed.

Can we PLEASE remove all the clear misinformation in this thread regarding vaccines?

If you are a Melbourne supporter and you plan on attending games next year, I suggest you get yourself vaccinated and quickly. Daniel Andrews made it pretty obvious today that no jab no footy entry.

Just another reason to do the right thing and get jabbed!

Hear hear. Please get this anti-vax crap outta here.

Vaccines are the only defence we have against this disease which - as well as killing millions of people - is preventing most of us from watching live the best team we've had in fifty years, not to mention removing our home ground advantage. Anti-vax jerks are the reason we're in this mess. Interesting article by epidemiologist on the ABC website this morning pointing out that both of our recent surges have occurred in the wake of those massive fruitcake protests in the city.

Do you include the Black lives matter and the extinction protesters in this  and btw there are as many epidemiologists' opinions as there are epidemiologists

We must vaccinate as we do for all other diseases

Sorry if I missed it, but is there a reason players have not already been vaccinated? With all of the interstate travel, I would have thought it would have been a requirement.

Probably because of their age bracket. Except Geelong those pensioners have no excuse.

I doubt players would have got vaccinated during the season as some people experience side effects and vaccines weren’t available for players age group during the bye.
I had my shot yesterday and my arm is quite sore. Some people get unwell too. So it’s a bit risky to vaccinate players during the season. I assume clubs will now push players to get vaccinated as soon as their season is finished.

Not sure what you're trying to say. I'm in favour of the public health rules, so of course I'm against public protests for virtually any cause right now.

Professional epidemiologists may vary slightly in their views, but you'd have to go a long way to find one who'd support the anti-vax gibberish a few people have posted on this thread.

What exactly is the anti-vax issue? Do they think the vaccine is unsafe despite millions of people around the world already having it? Or is it the more insidious lizard people trying to implant us all with RFID chips to track us even though every man and his dog carries a tracking and spying device in their pocket these days?

It really does seem to be luck of the draw the lady who gave me my Pfizer jab said it can be quite painful and even asked which side of my body I sleep on to choose the arm. I honestly wouldn't have been able to say which arm I had it in if I didn't know. Not the slightest pain.

We'll have to get used to it though. With Israel having a vax rate of over 80% for everyone over 12 and the highest rolling average of infections per million at the moment I'm guessing the booster jabs will a 6 monthly thing.

I feel 100% except the sore arm. I tend to get sore arms whenever I get vaccinated so this isn’t a Pfizer thing. Last time I had some boosters before traveling (remember that?) I had the same thing.
All my family in Israel has had their third dose now. I think it will be 6 monthly for now but I think natural immunity over time and probably slightly better vaccine formulas will see it pushed out to yearly boosters similar to the flu.

That is just plain wrong.

Please save yourself the effort of replying, arguing or asking me to explain why.

Do some reading of the basic facts. There is reams of useful, accurate information out there.

For Pete's sake, how people could not understand the basics about this disease and the response to it this far into the pandemic just blows my mind. But it certainly explains a lot of about peoples choices, their behavior and the situation we are in.

I will reply if that's ok with you Bin

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
