Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Silly me. I must’ve been just imagining the multitude of pics he’s sent me of zero people wearing masks. I also must’ve misheard my son when he said they’ve only had their first jab, therefore not being fully vaccinated. Oh and I must be getting old coz I thought I was FaceTiming them only just this morning while they were on a packed bus in Italy. Again, not a mask in sight.
But I’d take your word over mine seeing as you read something to the contrary. And we all know that we should always believe everything we read. ?

Nothing to do with my word, what I sent are the official guidelines from the Italian government. It also covers restrictions on restaurants and bars, public transport (50% capacity and mask-wearing compulsory) etc. etc. It's a long list. It also depends where you are in Italy, some areas have more/less restrictions. As for quarantine, I got my sentence back to front so what I said was wrong - if you're coming from Schengen states, you need proof of vax or a negative Covid test.

Given we are playing gc next week why have we not headed to qld?

Because we are meant to be in Darwin? Maybe they’re hoping that will still happen?
Anyways who is complaining about another MCG game? The more the merrier. Crowds or not.

Why would you reply to someone’s (anyone’s) post with, “Actually, that's not at all true,” when Government guidelines are all you have to back up your assertion?!

And Italy and Poland are both Schengen countries, so I don’t know why you cited that.

Hold on a sec Jaded, we’ve gone up a little in class in the north, it’s now called Pacific Epping.

Another hole in our budget with another home game gone, I’m not saying this would’ve been a huge boost but you’d have to imagine it would’ve at least given us a profit on the day.

I know everyone is copping it in different ways but I can’t help but feel that we are getting it worse than others.

I know it’s easy to say now but I wish the club had been proactive with the NT and AFL as we are playing in Darwin next week, and made this game in Alice, stay there all week and then go to Darwin the that weekend. Instead we have a game at the MCG with no crowd and no money.

EDIT: Just to add to that thought, I really hope this won’t be the case and fingers crossed everything goes well but if it’s looking like it’s not let’s push to have the doggies game in Alice.

The way Hawthorn fans have dropped off lately, we might as well have been playing Freo. Not sure the $$$ hit will be that hard.

I’m pretty sure we had one Bunnings store here in Sydney, listed as an exposure site a couple of weeks or so ago.

Your assertion that "In Europe, for the most part, people are going about life as usual." is just that, not at all true. I live in France, and have travelled to Belgium and Germany recently. Masks at the ready and keep your distance. There are a LOT of rules in place, right across the EU.

Much happier to play this game at the G rather than at Metricon, assuming it’s staying at the G.

Any chance our game can get moved to 1:45 given that timeslot is now vacant? Seems a bit silly to have 2 twilight games go head to head while Saturday arvo is empty.

My assertion is based on recent photos taken in Crete, Malta, Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) and now Italy. All in the past two months or so. Ok, so I shouldn’t have said for the most part. Notwithstanding  this, the fact remains, and my point is, many deaths leads to higher rate of vaccination leads to returning to some semblance of normalcy sooner.

Let's hope the decision to lockdown early works and we're back up and running again in a week or two.

But it's hard/impossible to be confident about what will happen with the rest of the season.

Pretty sure we have removalists in Victoria. They could have handed over at the border.

Oh yeah that makes sense.

While we're at it, given we have truckies here, when we need a delivery of food or other essential supplies from NSW I suppose we should stop the truck and spend an hour moving all the food over into our truck?

Honestly, think about how ridiculous what you're suggesting here is.

2 hours ago, Pollyanna said:

In terms of a "legitimate AFL Season", we're pretty close to there now.  The only teams we haven't played are GC and WC, we've played GWS twice and will have played Hawthorn twice after this weekend.  The other 3 games vs. WB, Adelaide and Geelong are all repeats.

I haven't got time to do the analysis but it's likely the other teams will be in the same ballpark.

Everyone knows 5th to 8th are making up the numbers in the finals.

Worst case, if the AFL really wants to get a legitimate season result they could concentrate on fixturing the remaining clashes that haven't happened and then run a 2 week final series starting with "Preliminary finals" 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd - winners to the GF.

There are other issues with this though. Some teams (rumours suggest we might be one) planned for a 22-game season by way of our training loads. Degrees of unfairness start to arise if you suddenly chop the season down to, say, 19 games.

Otherwise it then gets a bit complicated. The Dogs, for example, after this week will have three games left to complete (Adelaide, Essendon, Hawthorn). Adelaide, by contrast, will have just one (Bulldogs).

Some sides are going to have too many games whilst others will have too many byes.

The AFL's come this far, I expect it will do everything it can to finish the 22 rounds as intended.

In the last two weeks I have been in Hungary, Germany and the Netherlands. They are all at different stages in their different responses to the pandemic. Not a single country has had the same approach as another. Even here in NL, things were starting to ramp up again, they opened clubs and now there’s massive spread through the young adult demographic. Soon we will be dark red on the “countries that are [censored] with corona map”. So it’s different everywhere.

Jon Ralph reporting that the St Kilda V Port game might get moved to Saturday afternoon to allow Port to get home that night.

I wonder if our game gets moved to 7:25pm so channel 7 retain their Saturday night game.

Not that it really matters as none of us can go…

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
