Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

True, not yet and it may never be proven.

This comment:  "I don't think this error has had any bearing on this outbreak" didn't allow for the possibility that they are connected or that the 2 week delay might be detrimental to preventing an outbreak.

With all the things happening including a person now in hospital I am struggling to have concern about whether this game goes ahead or not. Can we get real its only a game of football.

I get where you're coming from mate, and footy is definitely not high up on the list in terms of relative importance, but there was a lot of talk last year during the 'big' lockdown about how much it helped people having some footy to watch. Just the sense of normality, the comfort and the distraction. The mental health aspect of this lockdown is pretty huge IMO, even though it's a short one. If we can have footy on, in a COVID safe way, then I think it only benefits people.

Yes but it is only one match tomorrow, another of the weekends games can easily be put in its place. you would think from some on here that the game by our team is the be all and end all it is one game of football tomorrow.

100%, footy helped me get through the lockdown last year for all the reason you listed.

Thought I'd just add my 2 cents worth.  Had a conversation with an ex-work colleague yesterday who'd just got off a video call to Brasil with one of their government departments.  They have to recruit an extra 6,000 workers, unfortunately my friend was a little slow on the uptake and it took a further question from her before she realised, this wasn't natural attrition, they'd died from COVID.

Also thought I'd add being vaccinated and being infectious aren't mutually exclusive that some seem to be assuming.

Same, that 'Festival of Footy' period lifted the spirits big time.

Big time.  Just having the footy to chat with your mates about was really good

It's good that they endeavour to present entertainment as I believe running games with no crowds does not put anyone at risk.

The SA report just released - as I understand it - pointed to the lack of adequate ventilation, as well as delivering food to + and - cases at the same time. In that case, someone with the virus opened the door to get their food, and due to l

In this case there is an logistics/admin issue - delivering food to +/- at the same time - and a facilities issue re: no negative pressure to prevent contaminated air escaping to another room.

It would appear impossible to control for the human error aspect here particular when considering the infectiousness of this and its variants.

In the absence of being able to properly manage the human risk, the question to be asked is - what is a better approach to manage this continued risk.

I still think high density CBD quarantine where as we have seen things keep breaking down is the wrong model and dedicated FIFO staff at places like Howard Springs is a more appropriate solution.

Take your last point but of course it is not possible to disprove it until we try it. Current system keeps failing. Try something else.

I think there are lots of options.  The dedicated facility is one but unfortunately that is not an option in the short-term.

In the meantime it would help if they took +'ve people out of the quarantine hotels into a medi-hotel so that it doesn't spread thru the ventilation system of the quarantine hotel.

And, fix the hotel ventilation systems.  Neither Vic nor NSW have had a hotel outbreak since they fixed them.

WA didn't learn from the Vic and NSW hotel outbreaks and failed to upgrade the hotel ventilation systems.  The WA government had been warned by its own investigators there were problems with the ventilation system of the hotel that had their recent outbreak.  While not yet stated it seems SA didn't learn it either so the Wollert man caught it there.  And how good is SA's covid testing that someone with it is allowed to leave the hotel.  Complacency by WA and SA, perhaps?

Until there are better facilities, all states need to learn from each other and implement changes that will improve what we have in hotels.

Why not just postpone this weekend games push each week back and do away with the bye before the finals. Keep the bye rounds for now in case you have to postpone a second week.

I would be very surprised if they postponed the round. A game or two perhaps but there will be games played and broadcast. You can bet the house on that one.

I hate to bring to your attention that you are posting on an AFL supporters forum as that may upset you.

Get a grip old, it's what people come here to talk about.

That is exactly what I am asking people to do “ get a grip” A little bit less of self interest would not go astray on any web site.

What you are asking for is pointless.

People come here to talk about footy, and whine about games getting cancelled. That does not affect your chances of catching Covid 1 iota.

Relax, nobody is hoping you get sick.

I just made an appointment for my first Astra Zeneca shot.

Do you feel safer now?

Should the game proceed tomorrow night, it may well be the highest rating game on Channel 7 for the year. While a  Bulldogs v Melbourne game in most years wouldn't match ratings for the more traditionally high-rating clubs, the fact that its 1st v 2nd combined with everyone in Melbourne being stuck at home should boost the ratings beyond what otherwise would have been anticipated. Channel 7 should be very happy.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
