Why would they not be allowed into the state? If other states are Covid free there is really no issue with them returning. Besides they will be told to stay in a bubble and test. AFL clubs are really easy to control. It’s the community that’s the problem.

Speaking of such matters and trolls in general, did anyone else notice that Pickett2Jackson was oddly absent during Craig Hutchinson's weird and short-lived visit to this forum, only to suddenly reappear the instant that Craig vanished?

Could these four posters (and others) be the twisted work of the one sad individual?

Just a hunch. If they're out and COVID free, I don't think they'll risk them being exposed now they're out, like a mini-hub.

This still baffles me. Respected scientists were advocating for government investment in mRNA manufacturing capacity since June last year. Apparently it is not that expensive - maybe $100m to get going - and the technology is thought to have significant other benefits, including cancer treatment. What’s the downside of making this investment?  
 

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only commitment to invest in mRNA that I’ve seen was the $50m the Vic Govt announced about two months ago. We’re likely to need COVID variant vaccines/boosters in the next few years, mRNA is the most adaptable technology, why aren’t we jumping on this?

Edit: this article dated just this past Monday indicates the government has just now invited proposals for establishing mRNA manufacturing capacity.  Surely this could have been done at least six months ago even not longer and surely three years to establish production is not sufficiently ambitious in the context and given others have argued it could be done in 12 months.

Current evidence (worldwide) of clots with AZ vax is 4-6 clots per million doses. That would be < 150 clots if the entire Aust. pop vaccinated with AZ. Readily available info.

There is almost no reason not to have the Astra one. Add in you don't know you are in a safe area that is the whole point. 95% of people at the G last Sunday thought they were in a safe zone.

True, but if I recall correctly the Phase I/II Pfizer/BioNTech results were published in August last year indicating that this was likely to be an effective technology.  That’s 10 months ago.  But for me it’s really about risk, what was the risk of dropping $100m on mRNA vs what was the potential upside?  Given the huge economic costs of the pandemic, 100m seems a small price to pay for a bet on a new technology. The benefits of which have now been clear for at least six months and probably more.

There is a suggestion that 3 of the initial 5 cases were eligible to have had a vaccine but hadn't had one.

It would also appear one of them (the so called case 5 - a 60 year old fella) was the first link in the chain and then infected two households (not to mention being out and about in the community for a week while infectious).

One of the people this fella (case 5) infected in his household then infected five people at his workplace. 

If he had had a vaccine then there is very good chance he would not have got infected in the first place and therefore would not have passed it on to anyone else. And we would not be talking about lockdowns and missing the footy on Friday night.

Or thousands and thousands of people having to down tools and waste hours to get a cotton bud stuck up their nose. And of course all the other major disruptions to people's lives

And it beggars belief, if true, but it is being reported that one of the older infected person's doctor did a house call (coz they were sick). And the doctor was also unvaccinated. Jesus wept

But hey, as long at the 70 year old fella in his 'safe' suburb is ok then all good.

I’ve been straw-polling my patients on whether they’ve been vacced, and reactions. All but a handful who can but haven’t, cite apparent lack of urgent need due to small/nil community numbers. The worst reaction I’ve heard was a 30 year old S.O.G Copper, superfit obviously, who reckons he couldn’t get out of bed for 2 days with flu-like symptoms. My own reaction was perhaps the worst I’ve heard for over 50 year-old (weak as p**s probably) - had about 3-4 hours of fever aches 12 hours after, and a bit rubbish next 2 days. Not one person has regretted having it. Obviously!

it was what was the status of the knowledge of covid vaccines 12 months ago......i.e. indeterminate

Agree 100% binman. Not that it matters I guess but the friend is a female. Also added wait for it. Kills more men than women! I left the room at this point. As I said earlier it beggars belief.

Here’s some news that may significantly alter life for tourists and the attractiveness of business hub Dubai – the United Arab Emirates said vaccinations against Covid-19 will be mandatory for people attending all “live events” from 6 June.

The policy applies to all sports, cultural, social, arts exhibition, activities and events, a spokeswoman for the ministry of health said late on Tuesday.

Attendees must also present a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken at least 48 hours before the event. The policy also appears to apply for weddings of up to 100 people.

Hardly a surprise DJ. I have a bad feeling about this out break. At best I think games will only go ahead this weekend without crowds. But who knows where we are headed. Netflix looks like getting a return not that I have stopped.
