Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"Right now Demons have a imbalance in their forward line. It's quite obvious today. Jackson, Weiderman, McDonald, Fritsch, Melksham, are all kpf or play tall and arn't that quick. Crows were able to transition the ball out of defense too easily. Salem out really hurt them on the rebound too. I expect Melksham wont get up to play though"

"I don’t think Melbourne’s midfield is that deep really.

Oliver and petracca are stars and they likely get viney back but then they drop away in terms of centre square mids. Langdon and brayshaw play wing mostly. Their advantage is the ruck. Even without dunks and treloar we have more depth.

Bont - petracca
Libba - Oliver
Macare - viney
Smith - ?

Wings
Hunter - brayshaw
R smith - Langdon

They got smacked in clearances by Carlton and smashed in centre clearances by Sydney"

I like this doggies supporter because he is spot on. Unfortunately the  Weideman/McDonald did not work at all. First time this year where our forward functioning was poor. Does that come down to not having Ben Brown there drawing two defender which releases Fritsch or McDonald? Could be.

The Melksham comment is spot on again. Why the actual [censored] we brought Melksham in will go down as this year's biggest selection blunder. Not only does he add legit nothing to the team but we are taking away more defensive pressure by having both Melksham and Fritsch playing in the same team.

No coincidence that our forward pressure was at its best when Sparrow was also rotating through there, but also applying manic tackling pressure.

Exactly WHY Sparrow replaces Melksham this week. But hes not the only one under pressure Bailey Fritsch would want to stop worrying about his hair getting messed up and start putting forward pressure on! f he doesnt do it this week then out he goes!

Fristch puts in another [censored] poor performance like that then he absolutely comes under heat.

Your continued bashing of Melksham unnecessarily is both tiresome and over the top

Nailed it. Ben Brown and McDonald are different enough to function together with Jackson imo, the only other alternative is going high pressure and smaller with just McDonald and Jackson.  Fritsch is effectively another tall, so we need a better balance of talls and pressure players

Melkshams selections is genuinely baffling, and i know people don't like the suggestion that he's a coaches favourite player, but outside that i geneuinely don't get it

Think we should of left BBB in the team also, knowing we have a big Friday night game coming up, and he plays well at marvel stadium continuously changing our forward mix will be our undoing. Find the right balance and stick with it. We can't fit everyone in gotta do what's best for the team balance

Would it be completely ridiculous to go it with neither Weid or Brown?  I don't think we were functioning that badly when both of them were out of the side

Would run with Brown this weekend. Weed's not up to it yet. Any danger this week that we may lower our eyes and hit Brown on the lead?

Key Position Forward .  Similarly, kpd is Key Position Defender.

This is actually not a bad point.  Since Brown / Weid have played our form hasn't been as strong (but that also coincides with Viney being out - he is a huge out given the tackling pressure he provides - lets just make sure he's right by September)

At present, both need to adapt their games to the team's current needs - forwards with guns that travel.

It is easy to stay propped in the goalsquare or so close that it represents a safe home base.

Both appear a little 'chicken' in an AFL match, for some reason. Even Fritta holds back, now. Defenders can anticipate this, streaming into attack mode and then running away with the ball or into corridors undefended to clear and launch linked attacks - usually through the midfield, in numbers and chains. Kozzie is the only bloke, so often, to apply his pressure and challenge.

Have we suddenly gone soft? Our forwards (KPFs and flankers) have few interceptive resources, do not apply full blown pressure on defending opponents or link together to create plays and opportunities. Our forwards, recently, expect the midfield to do their work for them both in terms of attack and forward pressure acts, leaving the midfield under-resourced to rebound the ball to static stone blocks awaiting the rare delivery for effective scoring. It is time for an improvement or the season is going to slip away from our grasp.

We had forward success with:

TMac & Jackson - Tall

Spargo & Pickett / ANB Small

Fritsch & Melksham - Medium marking

You add either of Brown or Weid in and Melksham must go out, as if he stays, we become too big & slow, you lose too much tackling and speed pressure!

Against the Dogs I’d bring in Brown and drop Weid & Melksham! Dees will have a significant height advantage in forward line. I’d also be tagging Daniel with Spargo or ANB!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
