Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We might as well play Weid and find out for once and for all if he can play. He has had more chances than most and after 5 years in the system he looks a bust. No matter how much we want him to be a success.

Has all the attributes but just can't get enough of the footy.

If he fails againtst the Dogs we should go with BB who is a proven forward - for the rest of the year.

Three strikes and he’s out. I was expecting him to come back firing but his two games  have been tepid and Mitch Brown has shown more in his sole outing as well in career comparisons.

I’m starting to think our best forward line is with TMac , Fritsch and Jackson/ Gawn with no Weed or Brown.

Giving us more options to bring in running players such as Bedford, Chandler Lockhart or Baker.

So for me it’s out Jetta, Melksham and Weed for Salem , Viney/Sparrow and Bedford or Baker

Jordon out surely?

Jordan can get the ball and in general, can deliver the ball (just OK at present - needs more work to be consistent). He can stack up more possessions than expected and usually competes well. This was not actually the case against the Crows but I think the whole team had a 'downer' in that match, except for Mr Carry the World on His Shoulders, Clarry.

I'd keep Jordan in - and drop Kozzie so that he can take his place on the forward line. Kozzie needs to bulk up a bit so that he can stay on two feet when bumped.

Weed, Melk and Jetta (sadly) need a slot at Casey.

I think we need to get through Monday meeting and Tuesday training.  See how much the boys want to make amends.  Looking at the play style of how we got cut open and beaten in the contest, and who is simply too tired or sore.

our system got cut open too often and too easily, and the dogs are great at winning the contest/clearance and applying pressure. We need to build the game around doing the system based actions that matter, and executing the basics.

think we give jordon and May a pass on those games. Weid will be under pressure, and Viney and Salem are immediate ins if available.  We only lost by a point, but it was the method that has been slowly unravelling over the last 3-4 weeks.  Time for that reset they keep talking about.

Weid has been hopeless in his 2 games back. Absolutely useless.

TMac, Fritsch (with an attitude adjustment) and Jackson is our best bet, although Jacksons inability to take a pack mark is currently as bad as Weideman.

We have some serious issues to address. Our breakdown across the half back line was there for all to see.

So glad Treloar is out. We needed that.

Essendon weren’t up to AFL standard. They played the worst 3 quarters you’ll ever see.

Brown spent years at Essendon getting some cheap kicks against bad teams then not touching it against good sides. He was hopeless against Hawthorn for 3/4’s before a late cameo when the Hawks had run out of legs.

His games last year were quite good, not just the Essendon game.

No not Baker please, not when we are playing the dogs

Mitch Brown would be a big chance or a call up

On what I saw today, forget the innacuracy this week, one very smart very capable footballer could have have 5 or 6 today, just knows where to run to put himself in DANGEROUS Positions i would play him

I don’t disagree on the forward line but I think they need to try and make it work.  I can’t see us having Brown and Weed playing 2’s all year.  It may just take a little time

Salem in, Jetta out. Maybe Sparrow for Melksham. That's it for mine.

The hysteria on this forum is bizarre. Won the game against Crows except for some appalling umpire decisions, when the team was not having its best day in front of 50k idiotic Crows fans.

Brown has 4 touches on the 2s.

Watched the Carlton game and Weidman was good.

It was a terrible loss to a rubbish team.  We were pitiful.   Nothing to do with the umpires.

We are now just 2 games clear from 5th spot.  Could be out of the top 4 in two weeks time.

BTW, we're just 5 games out of the 8. Knife slashing wrists.

I agree with the first part but can’t see any of the other smalls adding more. Salem for Jetta,  Weed for Viney if he’s fit. If Melksham is sore then Sparrow deserves a crack.

I do think we are too predictable going forward with the big blokes (Weed and Brown). Move the ball around and we look a lot better.

One change, a functioning forward line. How many times do our forwards end up spoiling each other or they are in each other's zones and their defenders are running off making 2 on 1 contest against our forward.

Our forwards need space. How often did Tex have to compete with another Crow?

This is right.  I think our top performances were up until the Richmond game.  After that, against North, we introduced Brown and dropped Jones.  Since then, we have lacked another mid option (losing Viney as well hurts there) and Gawn's role has changed from the early half dozen games (playing more back to help out after the loss of Tomlinson and less need to go forward).  I think this hasn't been helpful to the overall function of the team.  I'd take the extra tall out, go with the group suggested above by DeeZee and bring in an extra mid - be that Sparrow, Jones or whoever can be versatile and provide some run. I don't think it's Chandler; perhaps it's Bedford.  Salem is desperately needed and Viney would make a world of difference.  I think our team balance would look much better without the extra tall.

The system needs to return.

The selection depends on the fitness

of Viney, Salem, Melksham.

BBB had a bad day at Casey today.

Hard to see Weid performing with the best defender on him.

If Weid plays it must be up the field tagging with TMac.

BBB comes in as the deep forward threat that frees up the others.

Less space, under the roof, 10 feet tall BBB

Would suggest all of Fritsch, Jetta, Spargo and Melksham will all be discussed. Petty and Hunt possibly too, but they likely stay due to credits and need I reckon.

Hard to judge Weid's performance today. Horrible ball use forward of centre most of the time, none of Weid, TMac or Fritsch got much opportunity.

Might hold off until after the Casey game for ins.

Petty????

There will only be one change and that is Salem for Jetta. Viney will come back through the 2's if fit. Weid gets another chance as does Melksham.

The way we respond to a loss is important. Calm reasoned minds prevail. I see some on this forum.

hopefully the team can retain its confidence, re-embrace the team first mantra and continue to fight on. Salem and Viney in make us immeasurably better. No major changes in the fwd line are needed. We didn’t lose the game there

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
