Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We’re not at our best tonite defensively but I’m sorry just watched how the umpiring was pathetic not paying holding the ball in the middle which resulted in a crows goal & the deliberate...Sure we were up by 16 points but games turn and you can’t have umpiring decisions like these!!

It’s probably three bad umpiring calls in the last 90 seconds. I’ll need to see it again but I reckon Pickett was pushed in the back trying to take that final mark.

Sometimes you need a bit of luck - any one of those final three calls goes the other way and we at least draw, if not win.

The lack of an appeal from Jackson and co surely had an impact in that umpire’s mind. Does Goody bring that up in the review or am I overthinking things here?

Most clubs usually have multiple players (who are nearest those questionable decisions) remonstrating with the umpires, throwing their hands up and some would even grab the ball and look to go back over an imaginary mark to take the free in that instance.

Where were our blokes as you say?  I don't think there was one demonstrating?

This and also the lack of love for Clarry and pretty much anyone who scored on the night was pretty disappointing for me.

It was the most switched off, selfish, non-thinking dumb down the line / bombing  game i've seen all year from too many.  Ability for our talls to separate and find space on their men on the lead seemingly non-existent.

The most disappointing aspect was no possession/momentum option all night, especially after Clarry had seemingly kicked the winning goal to put us 16 up.

Zero leadership at that instance.  The boys need to be more aware of moments in a game where it's better to slow play momentum and eat up the clock as well as close down zoning space on their opponents.  And / or if things are getting out of hand, switch to man on man for as long as it takes to wrestle back momentum earlier in matches.  But then are players like Melk, Frittz and Weid even up to this latter option.  There'd be loose players everywhere out of our forward 50 with those three playing.

On tonight's effort we might make a PF but it will need a serious reset and some dropping of some seriously soft/lazy mature/seniors who appear to be either comfortable or happy coasting along and/or not up to finals pressure footy/not doing the little things needed to play finals footy.

BB in for the Weid vs the Dogs pls.  I've yet to see him stand up against the tide and/or coming from behind in most of his matches.  Appears to go to water.

Hopefully Viney back in for Melk who could be anything if he ever knuckled down and got down and dirty for four quarters in and around the packs.  Yes, sometimes even the silk needs to play ugly and get some contested ground balls/Tackles on your opponent.  If a rookie in Kozzie does it sometimes (ok not so good at much of anything last night) then surely a senior can.

Rarely does and rarely looks like he wants to go when it's his turn.  Too easily brushed aside at ground contests and will often only put in one good quarter or two then go missing.  If he was silk for three or four quarters, ok you might be able to overlook his other difficiencies a little.  He isn't a junior.  He's played a stack of footy and needs to occasionally dominate up forward but rarely does.  Being the best kick coming inside 50, on its own, just won't cut it at this level if you can't find the pill very often and go missing for big chunks in many matches when the heat is on.

No finals team worth their salt can afford to have 3 medium/tall mark & kick players in their forward 50 who offer very little at ground level defensively.

Fritta probably the best at mopping up at ground level has some credits but needs some further learnings, including not leading to within a meter of the pocket boundary line so often and finding his opponent's shoulder/tackling more often.

A few matches at Casey might allow him to work on aspects of his game, particularly the stuff without ball in hand.  Having said that i don't see a viable replacement.  Possibly Chunk for a few matches?  Bedford as a smaller change up to work at the feet of BB, TMac and LJ alongside Kozzie & ANB?  Either option probably not ideal but i can see an opportunity to improve here at Casey and hopefully come back a more switched on consistent player defensively at ground level post the bye.  He's super handy in the air and at mopping up some spills when on but needs some finishing school in these other areas IMV if we're to play a winning brand up forward in finals.

Hopefully last night was an aberration and against a rated club i wouldn't be all that concerned with the outcome at all.  But we are talking a bottom four club with 13 rookies on the night.

Some adjustments, hard work and smartening up needed on the track, at the selection table and above the shoulders if we're to make and win a prelim from here.  Along with a bit of luck.

It’s not too surprising that a few of our guys have gone to water now that teams are really hunting us.

It was always going to be very hard to maintain our intensity from the fast start to the year but that was a pretty soulless performance. Will be a good test for the selfless behaviour the club has been preaching because the system has won us games of footy this year and the system was non-existent last night.

The selection over the past few weeks could have had a negative impact on the group and I hope that can steady. Salem out hurt our setup immensely.

Doggies clash will be huge. Friday night on the  big stage against the best side in it. If we are to be any chance this year we will need to get to work from this morning and see what won the games early in the year

What was the injury to Salem?

I switched on just at the satrt of the ga.e and it wasn't really stated.

General soreness, Goody covered it post match and apparently he has been a bit sore for a few weeks but wouldn't say where or what it was.

Thr game reflected the north game when tomlinson went down it really disrupted the defence. Yesterday same with salem except he's a key and irreplaceable by jetta.

Weideman absolute last chance next week if at all.

No prizes awarded for 10-0

Backline and General pressure up field was off last night. Credit to Crows and the Salem out unsettled us.

People that are lauding the Dogs quickly forget the Tigers (without Dusty) absolutely bullied them in the 2nd half in round 7, and that Carlton really had them in their match (27 point lead at one stage and heaps of missed shots also). I think we will go ok next week against them.

No forward (TMac, Weid, Fritta, Kozzie, Spargo or ANB) won their position or even came close to doing so.

So what did Adelaide do to make this happen?

Must be a game plan thing. None of our forwards were given a centimetre of space to move...

If we are any good this loss won't do us any harm. I'm also guessing if the free had been paid the kick would have been after the siren so no running around to kick it. Just put it in your memory for next time.

A point and draw would have been like a win given our ladder position.

The day after and I am still fuming,.  What a gutless display that was.  Vintage Melbourne.

The loss we had to have??   yeah bull [censored].  Maybe if it was to the Lions or Dogs.  Not a week early against [censored] Adelaide.

A very good chance of a 3 game losing streak now and losing all confidence.

Nothing like that diabolical.

I actually had a different reflection on the game this morning.

Adelaide played like a team with nothing too loose, because they don't have anything to loose.  No chance of making finals, weren't expected to win, just hoping for some competitive games and maybe a win or two along the way.  They were daring and rolled the dice with their ball movement, because they could afford to be.  Could have been a completely different story if they didn't get a few goals go there way via cheap free kicks just before half time when we were starting to kick away.

Even for the best sides it's hard to be up every week in what is really a pretty tight competition.  To get to 9 - 0 was pretty phenomenal and I didn't think we'd be in anything like that position at that point in the season.

The next month of 8 point games will be super important to our season.  I'm backing us to at least break even against the Dogs, Lions, Port and the Pies which would be a pretty good outcome and solid ladder position to build the rest of our season off.

Has had multiple opportunities and over 5 years to come good Kent.  Should have started  to come in to the prime of his career by now at 23/24.

Was his time to shine/impact at least once on the scoreboard in the last two weeks and show that he's finally coming good.

See LJ / Geogiardes.

Would rather play Mitch Brown at this point if they aren't bringing BB in.

Gutless? Nah. Maybe you could label what the Saints served up last night as gutless but losing by one point away in very good game is the antithesis of gutless.

Just watched Goody's presser and I thought it was pretty classy. Complimented Adelaide straight off the bat and played the deliberate out of bounds question beautifully. He did drop the L word (that isn't a word) once but that aside after a big swim this morning to boost the serotonin levels I now feel like I'm ready to put this one behind me and move on to the Dogs game. Sunday is the first day of the week isn't it ?

I too also think we are a chance against the doggies.

For that to happen though we need to simply be really precise in nailing our game plan and bringing extraordinary pressure

Definitely some chance.

Our pressure game was set up nicely last night but we failed in the final execution/desperation to tackle, smother and harass.

It was frustrating because everyone worked hard to be right where they needed to be, then we just didn't have that last bit of effort to get the job done.

The game was another tick for our coaches. We played poorly in most aspects and were still incredibly hard to beat. Everything had to go right for Adelaide and it did.

Bowey should have come in for Salem. Like for like.

Did not like Lever squibbing going in front of Tex that would have kept the margin at 16. Jogged instead of going hard.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
