Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs Adelaide

I see that the hard comments are coming from the usual posters. Let’s just take a breath, we are still 9-1 and in some ways yes this was a loss we needed to have. Despite us being top of the ladder I’ve never really felt we were the best. We’ve had very good wins vs the Tigers and Cats, as well as solid wins against the Saints and Swans. But I’ve also felt we’ve just been doing enough, we haven’t once taken the game away from a team until early-midway through the final quarter. That is a ruthlessness that a true top team has.

Twice tonight we broke the game open to a 3 goal lead but failed to land the killer blow. If we’re talking about lessons learned (or learnings) that’s something to take away from not only tonight but all season. We do have good fitness but the crows players had enthusiasm and determination, they forced it out of themselves. We had passengers tonight who will have to take a long hard look at themselves.

A loss this week sucks, but what if we’d fallen over the line and continued to think things are hunky dory going into a tough couple of weeks? Take the loss, learn from it. That’s what the best teams do.

Spot on, especially in the first half.

Should never have been in the position to have to rely on those decisions late in the game to win. We were 16 points up with 7 minutes to go.

Fair point Beetle but , given the earlier decision against Spargo that deliberate that was not paid in the dying moments was an absolute Barry Crocker.

It's the inconsistency that has always ****ted me and the fact that one crucial decision in front of goal can outweigh 10 marginals elsewhere

This stuff frustrates the [censored] out of me.

Seemed to lack pressure and couldn't nail the tackles which left our defenders exposed.

Salem was a massive out. So composed with the ball in hand and behind many of our attacking plays.

Agreed in the first half it was way too lax.

Reminded me of old Melb.  We were also tentative at the contest and double handling / fumbling alot.

The pressure only came in the second half or about 10 minutes in to the second half.

Clarry lead the way and some followed but many weren't able to lift towards their best.  Gus one of the ones i thought had a much better half but coming off a low base in the first half.

Without Oliver today we would have lost by 4-6 goals.  Doesn't say much for the rest of the team

So many of our players had so little impact.  We didn't turn up, it's as simple as that

Make no mistake, we lost that game and handed the points to the Crows

Played from behind, Outpaced, Soft at the contest,  2nd to the ball, No real system, Crows owned the corridor,  No will to win,  Poor decision making and below-par skills,  A lack of energy etc etc

Hopefully that's the shocker out of the way because if we play like that against any of the good sides, we'll lose them all

The wake up call but we need to learn from it and not be dismissive

CONS

Weidemann couldnt force a contest when it mattered late.

Fritsch did his best impersonation of a turnstile - zero pressure.
May looks disinterested

When Gawn comes back into the defensive 50 and spoils our own players to the advantage of the other team it makes me want to throw my remote across the lounge....

PROS

Petty builds his reputation

Lever stood up under ENORMOUS personal pressure. Class act.

At that level of pressure you quickly can identify where players deficiencies are as they bubble up. Will be an interesting review.

Also now we understand that when the game is played like that the maggots keep the whistle in the pocket.

May looked anything but 'disinterested'. Please!!!!

We lost a game by one point. It's disappointing but we can't win every game. I believe we can bounce back and bring our A game next week.

It’s been an hour now so I agree.

Don’t get me wrong BBO, it was an incorrect decision and the Spargo decision was a howler.

We just didn’t deserve to win that game IMHO. We were out worked, made crucial errors and had players well off their game which proved costly.

To be 16 up late in the last and drop it, just shows where we were at tonight.

I look forward to seeing how we react next week.

Anyone know anything about some laser lights flashing every time Max went for a mark??

Anyone know anything about whistles been broken because they were stuck up the wrong place??

Anyone have any idea what words were being spoken by  Walker when Fritz was going for goal that warranted the Maggot to say stop with the abuse..

Fair reaction to losing to a bottom 4 team when we are meant to be  a  contender.

That's a rather simplistic way of analysing it though, isn't it?

I would ask where were these people when we played poorly last week or the week before?

We've been slightly off the boil for most of the year but have got the job done with effort and structure.

Also, it's completely disrespectful to an opposition that played out of their skin and took us on with bold play.

The biggest frustration to me is seeing players go in to hero mode rather than take easy options.

Gawn's match losing effort.

Fritsch snapping on his right rather than handballing

Pickett trying to spear it to Fritsch (great intercept by Doedee) when Langdon was free running

Hibberd completely missing a Tommy Mc lead.

Harmes' multiple times taking the tricky option

Refusing to give good wide handballs from the backline to clear pressure and instead trying to weave through.

Nibbler doing his Nibbler rather than making clear easy decisions.

We're still a poor kicking side, especially in the midfield. So we have to play the percentages. We have to get the ball clear with fast clean hands and then find runners in space.

Admittedly I'm not as clued in when it comes to tactics/gameplan as a lot of you on here seem to be but to me it seems the key area we've dropped off on in the last couple of weeks (which, earlier in the year we'd finally improved on after so long in the wilderness) is our entry into forward 50. To me, it seems we've gone back to just blindly and wastefully bombing it in a lot of the time rather than being smarter / more clinical, and that this is also not letting us have reward for effort. The good thing, though, is I would think (/hope) it shouldn't be too hard to course-correct

Goodwin was at pains to point out that there was a bottom line today: namely that Adelaide played well.

Still can’t believe the chances we had to kill it off. That run through the middle where we were off and then just dropped it and turned it over which led to a goal had me tearing hair out.

I also still can’t believe how easily we gave away the centre clearance after Clarry’s brilliant goal late.

Tonight was a wake up call, in a big way, we put the cue in the rack after clarry's snap and paid the price.

Many players we down tonight, lessons to be learnt from tonights performance.

Take a bow Clarry and Gawny.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
