Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Don't know if this has already been pointed out, but Oliver lead pretty much every key stat for the game.

Goals - Oliver

Marks - Gawn

Score involvements - Oliver

Disposals - Oliver

Tackles - Oliver & Jordon

Contested possessions - Oliver

Talk about a powerhouse.  There are some games where I don't notice Oliver's workman like burrowing and dishing off as much, but this game he was phenomenal.  If we had got up, it would have been due to Oliver.  When we got belated by the Dogs pre-season, I think his absence was a key factor.  Not scared of the Dogs on Friday night with Clarry in the guts.  Such a key cog in our machine.

I cannot fathom giving votes to Gawn. He was up against one of the worst Ruckman in the league today. His game was all stats no product and to top it off, he made 2-3 mistakes that led directly to goals for the crows. Not good enough for the votes.

Gawn had a good solid game unlike a lot of the team.
20 touches at 85%
10 marks including 5 contested

good ruck work and a goal

he had a big influence on the game. The crows  had to change the way they moved the bell as he was marking everything down the line

Have a look at the Crows Coach presser. You might form a different view. Yet you include Petracca who made many more errors than Gawn, and Jackson because of?

Re-watch the momentum swings in the 3rd and the last. Jackson was rucking and winning us clearances.

Exactly.  Nicks said as much after the game in his presser.  I just don't get the chronic underestimation of Gawn's performance on here.  Every other club in the competition would kill to have a ruck as dominant as he is.  He took one less mark last night than NicNat took in the entire season 2020!  That's how good he is.  And people harp on about the one or two he might drop occasionally. Just staggering!

All the votes to Oliver. The second half was ridiculous. Insane.

Thought Gawn & Trac made uncharacteristic mistakes but also think they are quality types who will take those mistakes and learn.

The Crows were chipping it short the entire game when they weren't running through the middle with handballs. Just saying they weren't kicking it long because Gawn was down the line is disingenuous, they were as scared of Lever as the 3rd man because they didn't have a tall to man mark on him.

End of the day you're pointing out stats but like i said, i felt Gawn was all stats little influence. Jackson had a 5minute window in that 3rd were he rucked and it swung momentum. How is Gawn against an awful ruckman not giving us first use but Jackson is?

So in your estimation Jackson was a more influential player than Gawn over the entire game. Righto then, just proves we see things differently.

Two of his dropped marks led to Adelaide goals. Lever gets killed if he makes one mistake. I'm not saying Gawn was bad. I see a lot more positive performances then most here, but Gawn literally gave up 2, maybe 3 goals due to errors. His overall influence in a positive sense is hampered by those costly errors.

Isn't that the point of a forum for discussion? In my eyes i'd rather Jackson who i can't recall doing any major errors leading to opposition goals and competed well all night.

No, but i don't see how that changes anything i've said. What Nicks said is hardly ground breaking. Every team in the league knows kicking a high long ball to a contest is death vs Melbourne this season. Why? Lever, May, Gawn and Jackson are always playing as a loose behind the ball.

Gawn's presence behind the ball is the same as Lever's. The Crows knew what to expect when kicking it long. Lever had more Intercept marks and spoils and more a ton more intercept possesions.

Plenty of players can make no errors but have little influence.  By the way, Jackson dropped a number of marks but I put that down to his finger injury.  I have no issue in you having a differing view but to say that you disagree with all those people who felt Gawn was in the best 6 Melbourne players last night, plus the Age, the Herald Sun and the opposition coach I think warrants scrutiny.  That you believe his mistakes contributed to two or possibly three Adelaide goals (I'm not sure what the third was but I can only guess it might have been the tap intercepted by Rowe who wasn't properly checked by Hibberd), yet don't apply the same level of rigour over any other errors made by Melbourne players stands out like a beacon.  I'll stand by my view that Gawn was our second most influential player last night, that he made some mistakes but that the good (and excellent) far outweighed the bad and that we are a much better team with him than without him.

Mate cmon. Watch the first half and see how the crows moved the ball. Disingenuous? Please.
I agree he made some errors but he played a lot better than most of the team.

we clearly disagree. it’s a forum, no worries.

Harmes did a really good job on Sloane. But my god he has to know his limitations. He and Trac tried to do far too much with the ball. Too many dicky handballs and idiotic kicks. They were not alone but I expect more from them.

The most that Daylight has ever deserved the 5 votes.

As good as an individual performance you'd be lucky enough to see by young Clayton.  Phenomenal.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
