Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I really can't see how we can justify bringing in BB after today's underwhelming display.

When Roos took over in 2014, one of the first things he implemented was only rewarding players who had played well in the VFL and not simply dropping players from the seniors only to replace them with players who had been dropped 2 weeks before.

Apart from his poor accuracy, Mitch Brown has been the premier forward over the last 2 weeks. He's got to be ahead of BB for the replacement for Weeds. I'm crossing over into a different thread now....so will post further there.

I have no issue M.Brown coming into the fray if his efforts reward selection as long as its across the board with selection.

Doesn't matter who you are, how old you are, how much coin your on, if your on the list everyone is fair game in regards to a place in the best 22.

Over under on Ben Brown playing more than 10 games for Melbourne the rest of his career?

Weid will play against the Dogs unless they drop him for Mitch Brown

Interesting question P2J, we are 9-1 first time since the 50's and we are at a crossroads with our Tall Forward Timber.

So is TMac, so is Fritsch...

Very true, but they’ve proven they can whereas we’re all still waiting for Sam’s breakthrough game. He’s yet to kick over three in a game, and while that shouldn’t damn him, it would be better for him to beat that personal best sooner than - if he’s allowed- later.

Mitch Brown coming in off a 4 day break just won't happen, another  non performance from the tall will see him in for the Lions.

He won't play at Casey next week if this the case on Friday Night, they'll hold him over till friday week.

Didn't know it was quite that inaccurate but fair enough. I'd still like him to get a chance at some point

I think M. Brown is actually the player who best suits our current structure out of he, Weidemann and B. Brown.  He won't play this week off a short break, but Fritsch, Tom, Jackson/Gawn and Mitch Brown with Neal-Bullen, Spargo and Pickett is probably the way to go.  He was stiff to be dropped after the Hawthorn game in my opinion.

I think the fact that he had 6 shots at goal is more important, next time he might kick 5.1

Sure, or next time he might kick 6 out on the full. You go by existing form not 'best case scenario' form.

Anyone can have 1 bad game kicking for goal. Don't recall him being a poor shot for goal last season.

Just back from the delights of Casey Fields.

Entry took a while due to scanning and lots of Swans supporters needing to pay.

Sat near the goals and watched Ben Brown closely for 3 quarters.

Hardly ever got near the ball. Forward delivery was almost non existent.

I took special notice of his positioning and leading and simply none of it came off. Noticed that he likes to break back to goal a lot.

In the final quarter I thought that as Casey got on top the midfield could have done more to bring Brown into play but many just blazed away at goal.

It just wasn't his day.

TBH the Casey players were eassily the equal of their more fancied AFL bretheren.

Finally.. they had run out of egg and bacon rolls

PS they seem to have fixed the drainage problems that the ground had in 2019

Watch the replay and the standard of football was close to terrible, no foot skill except Bowey and the forward line talls competed with each other all trying to get into the seniors.

There was not a lot of teamwork.

When I played over 60 years ago it was called paddock football and panic football.

Watched the 1st quarter from outside the fence as there was this silly que to get in.

I thaught there were 2 players that you could consider for senior selection and that is Sparrow and Lockhart. Players like Jones and Chandler bobbed in and out of match, Baker had a good last quarter and Mitch Brown was one player thinking about the game in the forward zone.

Ben Brown was nothing short of disgraceful. I think I saw him have one kick from a holding the man decision. You can say what you want about midfield delivery but he looked like a bloke not even trying. He could well of been sick. I don't know. If he gets called into the seniors next week it will be a crime against humanity. Weed. Pull your finger out.

Agreed, he played fairly well against the Hawks, even if he bobbed in and out of the action.

Prologue:

Astounded at the start of the game to have to line up to get in onaccounta only 1 Turnstile open. Then when I got close to check in Found out I could have just walked in through the seething throng of Swanettes ( Rememember them?) and walked in through the "Members only" Gate DOH!

Reasonable crowd today, probably 50/50 Dees/Casey and Swans faithful.

Beautiful day for footy out at Casey, no breeze to speak of and a relaxed almost gentile and pastoral elegance permeated the scenescape which featured Dogs of all kinds, Kids playing with footies, Parents sitting on Picnic blankets just out to enjoy a much anticipated clash. The aromatic waft of the Bacon ccoking on the hotplate ajacent the Food stall certainly resounded with the punters and many an egg and bacon roll was being consumed amongst the very reasonable 3 for $4.00 Dimmies and the ubiquitous Home made pies ( at just the right Temperature) and Sauce)  No Slitheras in sight and the radience of the sun cascaded into a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday in Melbourne with warmth on my back and easy views from all parts of the ground! The best part about being Picket Fence or anyone else is that you can have a view which may or may not be Numero Ono! Thats the best part about being on a forum such as Demonland. The range of opinions is both fascinating and enthralling! And each to his own!

NEWS , VIEWS AND HARD HITTING ANALYSIS!

I deliberately set out to watch the forwards more so than the defenders as I sussed out that changes may come from that cohort, However I did see some great defence which I will highlight her as well

I'll start with a positive

Jake Bowey, a poor mans Caleb Daniel in the making ( hopefully will be a better mans Caleb Daniel) Phew there is a heck of a lot to like about this player, Small in stature but big in heart, he set up many rebounds with his cunning, canny ball use and smarts, I really dont think he is far away at all.

Mitch Brown A very crafty clever and creative forward, He knows where to run and could easily have kicked 6 or 7 today instead of his 2 5 ish, If Fritsch is on the skids I would have no hessitation, bringing him in

BB Total day to forget, slipPed and slided , was caught behind, I'm not sure he even had a kick, Not that he wasn't presenting it was just one of those days where delivery was Shizzen and he just looked a bit lost. He NEVER stopped trying.

Oscar Baker, Played a great game and used the ball mainly well, showed some G & D on numerous occasions and formed a winning centreline

Chunky, Too good at this level , but the pace of the next level will possibly find him out, Linked well played with typical "Grunt" but was rested for the last half of the last!

Fraser Rosman, will be a very good wingman AKA Issac Smith coz he moves uncannily like him, Was involved in ball movement and creates opportunities

Toby Bedford, Played an entertaining and swashbuckling game, plenty of pace, kicks good goals and will continue his development

Tom Sparrow, VDB CLONE and if he can stay injury free will be a cracker, pace, grunt, smarts and skills continue to develop

Jay Lockhart. Gee I like him a lot, positions his body cleverly, uses the ball pretty well, pacey and just does all things an accountable defender should do

Kade Chandler, underpinned why he got game this year and continued from where he left of , touvh of class player with plenty of grunt and played a very good game

Austin Bradke, Ok I stand corrected here if it was him I was looking at in the ruck he was very very good, , palmed the ball well and played the snarly ruckman type to perfection

Majak At some piont Majak will play some games and he wont let us down another fine performance i the ruck, his fitness has improved and he can play Ruck , Forward, Back whih makes him very versatile

Of the Casey Boys Munro, White and Foot are no slouches. I really like James Munro, he seems to be the catalyst at casey and is a fiery no mess type.

Ill conclude with this ....

I still think he should be back in this week as he is important to our structure in taking the oppos best defender which frees up TMac more. Fingers crossed.

To fill in a couple of maybe gaps and uncertainties in the foregoing (I, too, followed the forwards):

Mitch B clearly 'better' than Ben B, but some distance from a knock-down-the-door performance. No evidence of the defensive contribution required in the Ones. Some of MB's shots were from the 50 and/or from wide, contributing to the (in)accuracy. Positioning appeared to be a mix of delivery and his own decisions.

BB: was well shadowed by monster Swans #2; didn't (couldn't?...) do any demanding leading; flew on the outside of packs, or otherwise badly positioned or timed in them; didn't have the legs or/and will to chase (NQR legs? - his running style atm looks (is?) slow); basically didn't look very interested.

On a side note, have the Casey boundaries been moved in a bit? Maybe to exactly replicate MCG?

Good report PF. My take:

Baker doesn’t show enough for mine. His decision making and skill isn’t AFL standard.

Bradtke is a mile off.

I am not a Bedford fanboy but he was very good today in patches.

Bowey is going to be a very good player.

We need to start rotating our small forward brigade as they are starting to look tired. Bedford has all the tools to play that role and should be considered.

Yep, it would be sensible to rotate Bedford, ANB and Kossie. I like ANB (sometimes), but can be very inconsistent and Kossie as an early career player will undoubtedly need the rest soon.

It was actually Bell not Bradtke. Bradtke's career is over behind Gawn, Jackson, Daw and now Bell doesn't even ruck anymore. He won't be there next year.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
