Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Viney and Jackson are best 22. If fit they both come back in.

i thought the Weid was competing with TMac. Reckon its actually one of the Weid or BB.

If the club consider Chandler best 22 potential then he deserves another go.

I think it best we go no change unless Viney needs a game before we play the dogs

Agree.

BBB just over Weid, need to bring in a small.  Too many talls interfering with each other today.

I think it works ok with Jackson he is good below his knees, otherwise it’s another small or medium for me.

I'm shocked how controversial this is, McDonald trained during the pre season as a wing, his strength was his ability to run hard forward and provide a target. and also push back and help the defense.

he's doing something very similar now, it's just his starting position is slightly different, he regularly pushes right up the ground and runs forward hard.

I don’t find it controversial. It’s just a bad idea. He is dominating up forward. In a purple patch with his goal kicking. Leave him fwd

I take your point, but we need to figure out the clearances, and Brayshaw is someone capable of helping that.

and ideally we need to keep Weideman in if we can, but it's going to be hard because of how well McDonald is going, and i think Brown is playing pretty well as well.

I hear ya.
I reckon we need to put the heat on Trac, Clarry, Gawn, Kozzi, Jordon etc to figure it out. The first three earn the big bucks, sort it out

Viney back will help, and i've got no doubt Yze, Goody, Richo and Choco are on it, and capable of getting it right, but we've been smacked in there twice in a row now, we allow the dogs to dominate the clearances and it'll be over at 1/4 time. that said if we break even in there or better, we won't lose to anyone imo

Once they are fit Viney and Jackson come straight back in, from today’s team you would probably have no choice but to drop Chandler and Weid, I’d like to see Weid get one more but  no argument that Jackson is a far superior backup for gawn and more useful around the ground and unfortunately for Weid he didn’t fire a shot in front of goal

Tom McDonald spent a few minutes rotating through the wing in games where we played 3 tall forwards in 2018 in rounds 6-8. Otherwise he played CHF. I doubt it was more than about 100 minutes of total game time.

As well as he's playing now he's also still a suspect field kick at times - see that kick to Fritsch that was a straight helicopter today. Plus he can try to do too much in traffic.

The other issue is Gus on ball hasn't been a solution to clearance problems pretty much ever in his career and certainly not lately. He's really slow to react defensively. Pretty much exactly the opposite of what we need.

All of that said though, I'd look at Tom having a short stint on the wing now because just like 2018 in times we are playing the 3 key forwards. Worth a look now, but not if it messes with Tom's consistency at CHF.

I'd probably give Jackson a bit more time unless he's undeniably right. I don't want the 3 key forwards in the same side but another week of Weid at least lets him play with a bit less pressure I guess. Keeps the heat on Benny Brown too.

Sparrow for Chandler probably has to happen. Going with 4 mids leaves too much to too few. Harmes, JJ and Petracca should all spend more time forward and give us fresher legs on ball. Our mids weren't amazing defensively and played well within themselves with attacking play too.

Wasn't ideal conditions for Chandler. I'd like to see him get more of a go in better weather and with a more mobile forward line around him. We rarely moved the ball with any fluency today, which made it hard for the small forwards to find any easy touches.

Geez give Chandler a chance. He has only been in for one game.

Melk was in for 2 and a bit seasons and did nothing.

I think Chandler can get another game or so which will give him time to settle in.

Looking at those heat maps, McDonald is already playing a high role anyway. The last two weeks have basically been 50% forward, 50% midfield.

And what wing is he going to take? Brayshaw might be a poor kick but he's defensively crucial. His positioning when defending our own 50, the way he blocks the opposition from switching, and his push in to the back half are all critical. And obviously it's not going to be Langdon's wing.

Assuming Jackson and Viney aren't ready, I'm going with no change. If Viney's ready then Chandler goes out. If Jackson's ready, I'm reluctantly putting Weideman out at this stage.

Chandler needs another game. Petty played well today, shows what good a couple games does. Frustrating how easily Weids gets pushed under the ball or out of the contest. Surely he is stronger than he let's on.

No changes for me.

I ahven't seen any vision of Weid at Casey but todat looked same as before with pushed out, not 1 grab marks, if any.  I just don't see him improving. Another chance on a dry day at the most for me but that's about all.

Looking like backup.

The mark on 3/4 time (for a behind) was a clear one-grabber.

I’m not sure if I’d “demerit” a mark for not being one-grabbed anyway. Surely the fact that he marked it is the most important thing.

IMVHO Weed offered a lot more than BBB today - neither scored a goal but BBB looked fumble and was easily brushed aside, whereas Weed did some ruck work and provided contests around the ground.

There weren’t a lot of forwards one grabbing today. The most disappointing moment was the mark he dropped in the last quarter in the pocket. Uncontested and it just slipped straight through.

I think give LJ another week to get his finger right but Weid needs a big game next week to have any chance afterwards. My gut feeling is that if we put in our first demolition performance next week it will be with either one of those two kicking a bag.

I was all for getting BBB but he is slow and very clumsy at ground level.

He is 200cm tall.

He may appear slow, but his work at ground level, including tackling is exceptional for his size.

I know it's 1 week at a time, but we are playing a bottom 4 side this week then have two massive 8 point games the following two weeks, I'd really really consider resting some players this week.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
