Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Either the Weid of BB i reckon. possibly both for another small/medium. Not sure the 3 talls structure will work tbh

Brown and Weideman might not have got on the score sheet, but watching the replay at the moment, I reckon we can make this work with McDonald. It might take some time to get this to work and we might have to be a bit smarter about how we use each one, but it was a reasonable dress rehearsal.

I liked how we utilised Weideman in the ruck and then higher up the ground and across half back. We also had him from the square on occasion too, so we kept them guessing and kept flipping the match ups to test the Carlton defence. 1v1 their guys are actually not too bad. It's their team defence that's ordinary, so it was good to see Brown and Weideman get a couple of looks each. They really could easily have had 2 or 3 each. And if Max doesn't take that off Brown's chest earlier in the game, there's another one. But that's the synergy that's not quite there yet.

I also think we need to play Fritsch up the ground. Play him between the arcs. His ball use there is brilliant, particularly entering 50. The old Melksham role. Roll him back to our forward square when we can, but his ball use further up the ground will be very handy. He'll still get 2 or 3 looks a game, the same as he does now, but then exploit his ball use and allow others to get involved.

Chandler should get another go in there as a small too, but I think in time it'd be nice to have Sparrow in there. He gives us an extra mid rotation and can play a defensive role inside forward 50. It might also be an idea to try Bedford for a game or two as well before the end of the season. We do need another zippy small like Kozzie though, but that's the for the draft, unless we've got our eyes on a small in the mid season draft.

I'd utilise Brown at CHF, deep forward and as the secondary option with Max up the ground. I'd use McDonald deep, CHF, wing and the other secondary option with Max up the ground.

Be fascinating to see what we do this week. I reckon we'll go unchanged, unless we bring Viney in for Chandler. It may also be a horses for courses thing against say the Bulldogs the following week, where we might want to go tall to try and target the Bulldogs' lack of quality KPDs. I'd love to see Jackson play as a genuine mid and second ruck too, but that might be a bridge too far. Interesting times.

Once Jackson is fit I don't see it working with TMac, Brown, Weid and Jackson so at least one of Brown/Weid will need to make way.

Thats what I thought too. (Weid...given bbb was bought in before him) I reckon it will be Weid which makes me wonder why Goody was so sure of his future.

Jackson's tank seems elite going by his early season numbers. I'd try him on a wing if we think he's up to it defensively. Think Cox at Essendon.

we had someone back all game

Still cant work out why our forward line is so crowded One point in first quarter 5 players including Chandler flew for a mark spoiling a good grab by TMac

The positioning of our forwards still needs a lot of work

Also Max spoiled TMac numerous times with no talking  and we never seem to have  small defender goal side

Pretty basic flaws in my opinion

No defender goal side is because we don't play a small defender who should wait down like the crumbers up forward.

By the way the first Carlton goal Levet went up ridiculously to spoil was miles away from the bell snd of course Carlton waltzed in for a goal.

Lever should have seen at least 4 fly for the ball and waited  behind for the crumbs.

But he normally is superb on his own marking in defence and intercepting,

Interesting, well done to the medicos and Jack and Luke. I know this is perhaps an arrogant attitude but I still see this as a natural opportunity to give some others a crack. I want to Weid given a proper chance to show his worth, it doesn’t seem fair to him to bring him in for one game in a role that isn’t what he’s been doing at Casey.

In place of Brayshaw obviously - we're not shifting Langdon. So where would that leave Gus? Remembering Viney is back this week or next.

Jordon currently shares the wing with Gus. I'd shift JJ to half forward when not in the middle.

Watching the replay tonight was quite interesting. Despite their ladder ranking, carlton played very well. Great tackling pressure. They have some very good players who we did well to nullify most of the time.

Bbb and sam w both triwd very hard and could both be seen at both ends of the ground. Sam  was clearly the better of the two as bb had little impact. Sam w did get pushed off the ball a few times for his size but his intent was very strong.

Our defence is awesome. Rivers for his age will be a great defender for this club and despite the penalty he gave away was fantastic. Lever is like Jackson and mobile for his size. May is so strong. Langdon popped up so many times for the handball receive out of the pack. Tmac had a few cameos down back and was back to his defending best. He is so cool and collected as is Salem. Hibberd came into the side late but is back to his best and has totally shut down key players. He doesnt seem to have lost any pace and is reading the play beautifully.

Suffice to say if our forward line becomes as good as scoring as our backline is at stopping it then people will really start to worry about our claim for a flag.

Likewise with our early centre xlook earances of late. We seem to give up a few too many in the first 15 minutes but we always regroup. And thanks to our backline it has really hurt. The rebound out usually brings sn inside fifty.

Jordan is improving each week and Olivers second half was sublime. Trac has been good but I hope he gets back to the form he showed against tigers. He did have a nasty corky. Kozzie was not at his best bit the bloke gives his all. Despite this he had one special goal and almost another. Harmes solid again for a bloke thats played a few. Could polish his disposal but his tackling is high and they are vineyesque(hard to shake).

Up fwd it was a little helter skelter at times but should have been expected. Tmac..what can you say? Spargos forward pressure was relentless. Anb after two poor games really lifted and added nicely to the scoreboard which is what hes there for. Fritta was quiet but interesting enough with his limited touches was deadly with three goals.

Gawn was solid doing most of the work himself. Gus made some early clangers but put in a good all round performance.

We missed a few close shots at goal....three or four coold have easily been goals and Kozzie to his credit dobbed himself in with touched ball. Oh the integrity. Conversely carlton got lucky with the same ammount of snaps. So I think we could have conservatively won by another four goals.

The only downside outside of umpiring was not kicking a goal in the last fifteen minutes. I do believe we put the breaks on slightly but maybe sometimes its not slways about % .

The biggest upsides  was one....a more even performance by many instead of relying on four or five.  And two.. the way we keep running home with the wind in our sails.

So lets reset. Focus on just the next game and if we win it we...we can start counting again... ten zip?

Then we will be ready for the gf precursor maybe ...Dees to burn dogs.

still a dumb tradition though. Pouring milk or whatever that stuff Salem and Oliver had wasn’t cool and I’m glad Hibberd and Trac called it out. Great leadership

I get the boys doing it. All the excitement and release.

But I also get the immature aspect.

As for Tracs effort ...yes thats the story there.. captain to be.

I get the feeling it's like the highschool hazing in the states, the teens coming through get the power to do the hazing and say "well it happened to me so it should continue". I'd love for the Dees to be the first to come out and say they're doing away with the gatorade shower, maybe use the water bottles instead, but really I'd just be happy with the first time winners just being in the middle and nothing else.

It just looks like their back to being 15 year olds again, and that white stuff poured on Chandler....I just don't understand it.

No Carlton played bad, we kicked 1 goal 7 in the last quarter, kick 4 goals and it's a 40 point win, we could not hit the kill button.

a small thing but good to see we are an open direct unit

Good leadership, well done. I’m sure Chandler took it in his stride but you shouldn’t do that to a teammate.

Thanks 3031. Top post. Absolutely this regarding Langdon. So many times he has broken away into space and been that vital link out of our defence. Probably covers more territory than anyone except maybe Oliver. And EL is always so clean with marking and effective in finding targets. He has been a huge part of our success thus far.

He is just an outlet, how many times has he been in a chain of handballs whilst we’re hard up against the boundary line and because he’s so elusive we’re able to break out?

One of our most important players

Never gets beaten and sets up our forwards

Should be getting Brownlow votes every week!

It's a protein shake that's provided to the players after the game.

Instead of wasting them pouring on players heads, it's meant to be consumed straight after physical activity.

As Petracca said last night, it's people like property stewarts who put in the time and energy in preparing this kind of stuff for the players and then having to clean up the mess afterwards.

My respect for Petraccas leadership has gone through a whole new level after seeing this last night. Kudos also to Gawn for addressing this straight after the game as well.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
