Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Oath.

I couldn't believe BT.

I've never like his commentary but yesterday was an all time low.

It was a disgrace.

Strange sensation winning I was at lunch ( which lasted till 8pm) with a bunch of Tiger fanatical friends who were more excited about the Dees than me. I have seldom been this non committed. I am sure not attending games for two seasons has something to do with it.

Methinks Dictionary.com has made a rare error: they didn’t include BT’s picture with word of the day. ?

We have the best defence in the comp, need Viney back for the clearance work. Forward line looked unbalanced I thought . BBB looked quite cumbersome with his ground work. Thought him and Weid both ok but nothing special. One of them needs to stake a claim before LJ comes back, we can't play the 3 of them and TMac.

Lever Lever Lever.....everytime they bomb it in......so refreshing.

Yep, where are all the comments on Lever's game? Easily in our top 4  or 5 for mine. May was good and got all the accolades, but did have 3 kicked on him despite blanketing McKay early. However, Lever was in his 2017 Adelaide form. Those spoils are becoming so confident. He's seeing it so well.

I've never loved a backline so much. Along with May and Lever, Petty is playing his role really well. Rivers was outstanding, Salem has become such a beautiful reader of the play. I now expect him to win his 1v1s, which is a great feeling. Hunt provided a bit more dash this week and I'm glad he got that goal back after coughing one up earlier. I thought Hibbo was a bit patchy this week, but still did some good things. Gus and Langdon defended brilliantly all day too, as well as provided a great outlet to break onto the wings.

The best defence in the league. Keep it going. The mids transitioned pretty well for most of the day but coughed up a few cheap stoppage scores. Our defensive mechanism, structure and organisation is so strong that it continues to win us games when our offensive game is a bit off and our stoppage game is struggling.

what a great photo. The confidence/maturity is clear with Salem, he's not getting carried away,

the pride on ANB's face. the boyish excitement of Kozzi. Harry P just looks bloody happy

Young Trent thinking how good is this, bring on the crows

BT has always hated the MFC so it must be sticking in his craw that we are 9- zero. I am enjoying his suffering.

Being at the game, It never looked to me  like Melbourne was ever really threatened by Carlton the whole game, even at the start being 11pts down. Did that with minimal fuss, and any time Carlton was trying to push us we were able to go up a gear and pull away again.  Good solid win.

All the talk of the Chandler gatorade shower makes me angry for a different reason.

The AFL's records will say this was not his first win. He "won" the games he "played" as the medical sub.

The notion of crediting players with "playing" when they're an unused medical sub is just so stupid.

The rule is this:

18.6.3 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Incorrect Disposal

Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player elects to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when Legally Tackled.

For the avoidance of doubt, a Player does not elect to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when:

(a) the Player genuinely attempts to Correctly Dispose of the football;
(b) the Legal Tackle causes the football to be dislodged from the Player’s possession.

So it's not a free kick if you have not had prior opportunity (as @Clint Bizkit mentioned) and you make a genuine attempt to correctly dispose of the ball.

The distinction is prior opportunity. If you've had it, you must legally dispose of the ball upon being tackled or it's a free. If you haven't had prior, it's OK to miss the ball with your foot provided you genuinely attempted to kick it.

I didn't realise this was being brought up? I mentioned it in the Gameday thread but thought it was just a random thing I'd seen.

It shows competitiveness from Carlton which if I were a Blues fan is a major improvement on the Brendan Bolton era, but they're mired in mediocrity at the moment as they keep losing and can't take a step forward against sides above them on the ladder.

My Carlton mate said after the Bulldogs lose, it was a honourable loss, I said you can  stick your honourable loss up your Ahole, you win or lose, you don't get any points for honourable loses, With Carlton supporters hanging their hat on a honourable losses, they are doomed to stay there forever, long may it be

At the match yesterday it felt to me like we just sat back waiting for Carlton to inevitably screw it up then slaughtered them on the rebound...similar to how Hawthorn in their prime used disregard clearances and use superior skill and tactics to win game after game

Well this is something we agree on there is no such thing as an honourable loss! A loss is a loss is a loss.

See the Carlton think it was not a bad loss 26 points, happy with the win, but Gee we are missing out on  opportunities to burying and humiliating sides, kicking 1 goals 7 in the  last quarter was just so disappointing. Is it bad in wanting to kill sides, not just beat them?

A shout out for Petty who has copped a bit on here for some time, I thought his game was really solid yesterday.

That kick from the guts in the last favouring Nibbler who ran off his man and goaled was a total ripper. Hoping he grows in confidence of that game, if so I reckon he'll more than cover the loss of Tomlinson

All I'm saying is....surely we can find a better balance when the situation presents?  Where we give ourselves  the above opportunity or similar (front and square roving off the spillage from such a pack if no one marks) while still having a fair chance of locking it in IF none of the above happens.

Let's at least improve our chances of scoring when getting it in there when we can vs hitting that same pocket so often as a default, allowing them to get numbers inside 50 which makes our chances of scoring (especially a.goal) very slim anyway.

You’re suggesting we go back to our inside 50 plan from 2018-2019 which was so frustrating to watch, and resulted in a dreadful inside 50 to scoring conversion rate (against top 8 teams was 30% in 2018). We were also one of the easiest teams to score against on the rebound.

Against Carlton we scored from 59% of our inside 50 entries.  Sure the 1.7 in the last was not great but we are so much less predictable, its really difficult for opponents to get the ball out let alone score from a rebound, and is part of the structural change that is working. The change had to be due to the new coaches (and Richo) explaining to Goodwin why the strategy he stuck to for so long was garbage and so easily pulled apart by good teams. Full credit to Goodwin for listening to the logic and implementing it.

Brayshaw's skill level by foot and lazy handballing is killing me.

Doesn't matter how good he's been positional speaking if he keeps coughing up the ball to oppo.

Chocco would be pulling his hair out at some of Gus's execution.

Wish players would really value their disposals more.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
