Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

I have met Brian Taylor multiple times and my impression of him at close quarters is that he is an arrogant narcissist!

He also has a chip on his shoulder about the Demons because he is so uncultured and boorish, unlike many of our fraternity.

I think that was one of our better wins for the year. Played 4 quarters of footy and had control of the game throughout. I don't think carlscum are that bad a side. My beer is tasting well tonite.

It certainly seems that way at times.

I give credit to carlton today. I thought they tackled and chased very hard.

Got a good rub from the maggots and had a few snaps fly through.

But we dont look like we are throwing the proverbial sink at teams as yet.

There seems to be a strong belief in the boys and one another.

Such a different team.

Despite appearances we are giving our all.

I think we have to accept that as top dog we are being hunted so each week our opponents are playing their absolute best to knock us off.

I think this is evident by revved up clubs coming out all fired up and winning the first fifteen minutes. Its the same pattern almost every game

Its a different level to other games and  takes its toll each week.

But we just keep pushing and working and believing and winning. Full credit to the fitness staff.

As much as i want to smash a team Ill take four goal wins week after week including the grand final.

Reckon half the problem is the opposition are close enough during the game to think they're in it.
Would prefer to stomp our authority early and erase any hope they have of an upset.
Break their hearts and take the fight out've them.

All the talk of the Chandler gatorade shower makes me angry for a different reason.

The AFL's records will say this was not his first win. He "won" the games he "played" as the medical sub.

The notion of crediting players with "playing" when they're an unused medical sub is just so stupid.

Do you seriously not know what incorrect disposal is?

The rule is this:

18.6.3 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Incorrect Disposal

Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player elects to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when Legally Tackled.

For the avoidance of doubt, a Player does not elect to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when:

(a) the Player genuinely attempts to Correctly Dispose of the football;
(b) the Legal Tackle causes the football to be dislodged from the Player’s possession.

So it's not a free kick if you have not had prior opportunity (as @Clint Bizkit mentioned) and you make a genuine attempt to correctly dispose of the ball.

The distinction is prior opportunity. If you've had it, you must legally dispose of the ball upon being tackled or it's a free. If you haven't had prior, it's OK to miss the ball with your foot provided you genuinely attempted to kick it.

Find it really funny the media and Carlton supporters hanging onto this "record" that they haven't lost by more than 31 in 26 games.

1) what a random record to bring up, a 5 goal loss is still a heavy loss especially last year with 16 min quarters

2) in that time the blues have gone 10 & 16 - not setting the world on fire

They are clearly a 10-14 team and if not losing by more than 5 goals is something they are proud of then they will remain there.

Happy to win today without getting out of second gear

I didn't realise this was being brought up? I mentioned it in the Gameday thread but thought it was just a random thing I'd seen.

It shows competitiveness from Carlton which if I were a Blues fan is a major improvement on the Brendan Bolton era, but they're mired in mediocrity at the moment as they keep losing and can't take a step forward against sides above them on the ladder.

Completely agree, racking up wins in third gear. We are going to be scary good when we finally clunk into overdrive.

I thought we slipped into some old bad habits with bombing it into our f50 just because of our tall forwards but I'm sure we'll sort it out.

Highlights

Tmac is just so steady.

Kossie. His one handed pick up at full tilt in the wet on the outer wing. He is a pure joy to watch.

The Wall of Demons.

There were a couple of times where I watched Carlton try to transition across and we just ran so hard to form a wall of players and block their options.

it must be awesome to see it happen at the ground.

Keep banking the points

Jack is back next week.

Spot on with the highlights!

Haha love the Wall of Demons! Looking forward to getting to a few more games to see it in action.

Nice, I didn't realise Jack was back next week!

I've watched good teams play ordinary football and keep racking up wins for years.  It's pretty bloody exciting to finally follow a team doing the same.

Great signs.

And Viney makes us better.  He's important.

Was thinking exactly the same thing after the game.

That and i've seen us play well in such games for years, throw everything at them, and still come out with a four goal loss. Pretty much every game against the hawks for a decade.

The phrase that came to mind was professional win.

^ exactly t_u. Another example was when Petty was front-on tackled on the wing. BT called it a throw; umpire called play-on, which was the correct call under the no-prior, ball spilled out adjudication.

The non-HTB against Carlton was the umpire judging no prior. That’s a completely subjective judgement call; these are always going to vary because no two umpires will share the same judgement. I thought it was the correct call.

I also thought the HTB call against Lever was tough but correct. Ump’s logic is if you’ve got time to raise your hands to free them up, you’ve got time to dispose of it. They pay those all day long.

I couldn't go today so had to watch it on the box. I was getting seriously furious with BT.

It wasn't just that stupid comment. His vaudeville routine about how quiet went for the whole first half and was replaced by a routine about him not rating us blah blah blah, that the whole team bar bartel joined in on. Pathetic and disrespectful to the club and fans watching

On Bartel, i have to say i'm really impressed with him. Actually brings some solid analysis to the role of special comments (eg his comment explaining why the clearance differential was not an issue and the pressure we put on the player trying to kick from the clearance). And i love how he doesn't play along with BT's clowning.

I was thinking how his analysis could be really good for us.

I could be wrong about this, but you might be confusing that call (that people are hating on BT about) in the 3/4 with the one up the other end (in the last) when Lever was well tackled but managed to get his toe on the end of it after release. BT seemed unwilling to watch the replay which clearly showed Lever’s disposal, though ugly, was not HTB. Instead he banged on about it for the next couple of minutes, because he is an Aldi-Rex Hunt who needs to be be relegated to the half-time Auskick calls.

I also really rated Kossie's sportsmanship. I would have loved the goal, too, as it was a great kick, but his act spoke volumes.

The kid is going places.

Fast.

Looked more to me that he was telling his other forwards to set up for the kick in. Same as Spargo's.

That's smart team play to make sure we aren't caught on the counter.

When in comes to sportsmanship in regards to touched balls and those kind of things I'm not fussed either way. Take what you can get because you'll always get bad decisions the other way. But when it comes to good structured team footy and high footy IQ stuff then the more the merrier.

Also let's not bother with goal reviews if both sets of players aren't arguing it!

Yes, sorry. I’m referring to the one where Lever was actually called for HTB.

The one where he got the kick away clearly wasn’t HTB (because he got the kick away), BT incorrectly called it as HTB and is an idiot.

Was at the game and my BOG went to May . Have not looked at the stats or read any of the above yet . A good team effort and we could have won by 10 goals . Out numbered them all over the ground all day and we looked strong and much harder at the ball .

Kosi signalling touched BEFORE the umpires was so classy ( can the umpires go on his call ( like Gilly walking ) ) and his goal so much fun to watch .

The Bell did not toll before the game ! I missed my AC/DC !

It is a strange feeling going to the game and expecting us to find a way to win when challenged.

I am beginning to think that we are building for the Buildog challenge and that it will be the game where we hit 4th gear!

Haha, I'm not too sure. I renewed membership last week and my wife signed up for the first time. Ended up talking to JV on the phone. He said he was hoping to be back next week and was on the mend.

I normally just renew automatically but cracked the s**ts last year after the Port Adelaide and Cairns debacle. Sent Pert an email stating I wouldn't renew until the club pulled it's finger out and started performing.

I think they're performing.!

Probably owe Gary an email this week.

Watching both the blokes and the women this year and the way they play for each other and the club has been brilliant. What more can you ask for?

where's that number from? there definitely wasn't that many of them there today, but i would've thought it'd be more than sub 4000

I’m taking the peace wwsw. But at times today it felt like we were playing an intestate team there was that little noise.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
