Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It ain't gonna happen, but how would we feel about Mitch Brown replacing Petty down back?

I’d put Spargo at CHB before Mitch Brown.

Fritsch was absolutely woeful all game, he’s been good this year & deserves to stay in but another performance like that & Goodwin should make a statement with him about consistency.

He didn’t chase, none of his tackles stuck, he we went to ground to easy & his disposal (when he actually touched it) was abysmal
If Melksham played liked that the Demonlanders would be calling for blood

Brayshaw was terrible also, he needs to put more care into his disposal, 4 of his last quarter disposals nearly cost us the game

Agreed on all points. Fritsch has been one of our most consistent players all year so has credits in the bank but was flat last night, makes you wonder if his hand was ok to play after last week.

I reckon the tribunal stuff tends to have an effect. The focus wasn’t quite there

I was thinking TMac may go back . Can do what Thomo can do and add some attacking flair . Would love to see Weids dominate at the G . But Tmac was our best player last night imo . Played  CHF ( hardest and most important position on the ground ) role to perfection . Maybe change the rucks off the bench ?

Why?

Personally I thought Petty has a looked a little shaky in both games he has played this year. Which is fair enough, players need time to settle in and find that confidence.

Mitch Brown, i dunno... He is a bit of journeyman and has that experience under his belt. Has spent time down in the backline at points throughout his career and whilst he doesn't do anything spectacularly well, I think he has a solid footy IQ that'd compliment guys like Lever and May.

Happy enough to see them persist with Petty, I think he obviously has far more upside going forward. I just figured Brown to be an interesting left-of-field alternative

I thought Petty was ok & held this own

the fact is petty is in the team to lockdown and his opponent didnt dominate him therefore he has done his job effectively, also how is a player supposed to develop and find their feet at the level if they are tossed in and out week on week we need to give him a consistent go, yet to be fully towelled up. people are just looking for an excuse to take him out

I thought Melksham had some bad moments, kicking for goal outside 50 when an easy pass was on and making poor decisions. Which is usually his strong suit. As he doesn’t offer much else he’ll be on the chopping block soon unless he improves. If it was up to me I would drop him

i don’t think Gus will be looked at to be dropped. I thought he was good in the 2nd Q from memory. Went missing a bit in the 2nd half but we went down Langers wing a lot

I THOUGHT THAT MAX LOOKED VERY VERY TIRED

NOT ONE OF HIS BEST GAMES

WAS HE INJURED GOING IN?

Whilst it's obviously an absolute blast to be winning, I think we're still trying to settle a side. Especially that forwardline.

Harmes game was perplexing. Got a fair bit of it, did some good things and did some really poor things. It's those mistakes and rushed handballs to nobody that absolutely kill me and the team. They almost take away the good stuff he does. It's the same with Brayshaw, his use and touch can be terrifying. Positioning is all well and good but man he just struggles to do the basics consistently well.

Carlton have a habit of sharing Max so centre square really needs to be addressed against them. Give Max a rocket, he needs to stop thinking games are just easy now.

Would also love to know why our forwardline pressed so high up the ground last night. Why did Brown not stay inside forward 50 all night? We had far too many talls jump at the same ball on the wing area.

Cant believe we're still winning with the mess!

Happy days I guess.

This comment probably fits into this selecton thread.

I'm worried about the forward structure after last night, and admittedly only 1 game,

But it looked very different with Brown in, and may have impacted Fritsch's output. Fritsch has been great all year but last night there seemed to be continual rotations, with Brown off a few times. Obviously not because of fatigue, and I wonder if this selection is a work in progress from the coaches, trying to figure out how the pieces fit. I fear losing Fritsch's aerial strength which is a winner for him.

Time will tell next week, on a hopefully dry day.

Brown's impact was his usual forte - straight kicking and high pack marks and on last night only prefer to perservere with him than Weid.

I was thinking the same thing at the ground. Where has our forward connection gone? After watching the replay I saw the old problems of sending kicks forward to no one's advantage. Fortunately BBB and TMAC were great with their contested marking and that made the difference. BBB was playing around the ground v Box Hill and is required to do more than stand in the square and jump at the ball.

I think that all the forwards are expected to be mobile and cover the ground. It gives us more options when moving the ball forward and also makes our forward line difficult to handle

Let him grow into the role. Tommo is a big loss and we can’t expect Petty to have the same impact but I expect he will settle and be very good for us. It’s not a role we should chop n change unless he is comprehensively beaten and he hasn’t been as yet.

That was as physical a game I’ve seen us play in a while plus it was wet, there will be some very sore bodies such as Trac. I expect a few ‘managed’ next week.

Real happy it’s a Sunday game for the extra rest.

Maybe 'our mess' is superior to the mess that all the other 17 teams are playing.

Our mess is top of the ladder possibly 8 points clear come Monday morning.

Sparrow for Harmes.

I'm sorry, but apart from 2-3 good moments in that game, Harmes was doing everything we shouldn't be doing. He just plays like old Melbourne.

Rubbish

he worked hard all night

Looks like Harmes is the new Melks. Divides opinion.

No changes but we are lacking fluency and look tired. One or 2 changes won't really make much difference. Viney will come straight back in when he's fit but other than that its just shuffling deck chairs.

We're grinding which is what you need to do sometimes but I would like to see a run of games where we just click. It looks like  hard work at the moment. Unbelieveable to be 8-0 but the loss is just around the corner. Glad we're not facing the Doggies or Lions next up. The bye can't come soon enough.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
