Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

 P2J's final call

IN  -     Sam Weideman, Tom Sparrow

Out  -   Oskar Baker, Adam Tomlinson (knee)

Tom McDonald to move to CHB with Sam Weideman to come into the team after well and truly earning a spot.

For all the fuss about T Mac's start hes only kicked 9 goals in the 7 games.  The Weid must come in or we risk losing him to another club.

You may now lock the thread.

Tmac has been playing way higher up the ground, goals don't always = high output

He's literally had 1 average game vs GWS

He's kick 9.8 so if he's more accurate he could of kicked more

Not throwing him to CHB after 1 game just yet

I do agree on the delivery, at times it was poor and they seemed to crowd the forward 50 did North.

I wonder what's the ground size compared to the MCG. Blunstone Arena seems likes a stock standard suburban level ground size wise on TV. I could be wrong though.

Blundstone Arena - 160m - 124m

MCG - 161m - 138m

The match committee has been reticent to make changes all year and doubt they will to a team 7-0.  I think baker and tomlinson will be the only outs to make way for sparrow and weed.

Im not as down on the game as most. North had a game plan and executed to amazing precision in that first half. Melbourne readjusted and won the 2nd half by 50 points. That's impressive from the coaching and playing group imo.   sort of win that give the club belief and confidence and a wake up call that nothing is easy or a gimme.

A surprisingly tricky selection night coming and with wait on Fritter and maybe Brayshaw.

Six players have good cases to come in - Harmes, Sparrow, Weid, Chandler and Bowey and Petty.

The obvious outs are Tomlinson and Jones (he was 23rd anyway) and then it's a question of whether they want to pull the trigger on Baker and Melky or rest up a player for balance.

Great to see so many people have finally cottoned on to the fact that ANB provides something, although clearly he went from riches to rags in this game. Can't see him missing though and that means Chandler has to wait. Could be sub.

There's also no obvious spot down back for Bowey at moment, so he has to wait. Could be the sub.

Harmes and Sparrow clearly come in and Baker probably didn't do quite enough and his absence allows Brayshaw to move back to the wing.

As for Petty, does he come in for T.Mac, who didn't do anything wrong down back in an impressive second half against Roos. So I'd say we have to play T.Mac at this stage and if he goes back to his low-kicking turnover days then Petty comes in.

Then it's whether we want to ditch Melky to make room for Weid and a reshuffled offence. I would, because so far this year Melky hasn't provided enough pressure, so playing an extra tall won't hurt us. But against the quicker Swans I could well understand if we want to go with more pace and if that's the case then Chandler comes back into the equation for Melky. If Fritter is out then Weid definitely plays.

Tough choices and nobody is right or wrong on this one at this point.

Out: Tomlinson, Baker, Melky, Jones

In: Harmes, Sparrow and Weid or Chandler.

The mcg does give more width but another factor might be even a night game under lights could be more friendly than the sun on Sunday!

They were planning for too many sunny days when they decided to play footy on a ground that runs north-south. May in particular really struggled but it wasn’t easy for anyone facing in to the sun

Matthew Lloyd just said on 'AFL Access All Areas' that based on what he saw on the weekend he doesn't believe that Ben Brown should be in our team come the finals due to his lack of mobility and being unable to create separation from his opponent. He also stated that he would leave Tom McDonald forward. He must be reading my posts on demonland!

What would an all time great forward know about forward craft. lol. You lot! You call yourself supporters but then say stuff like 'Tom Mcdonald should play back'. How many years of turnovers and bad decisions will it take to realise that he is a forward? or was 2018 not enough?.

Thanks Lloydy

How can people think BBB is going to get dropped? Laughable

BBB needs a good 2-3 weeks to adjust to the pace of the game too, not only has he missed a heap of footy since last year but the game is only picking up more and more speed.

As posters have said he will take the #1 key defender and Tmac can have #2 defender and work them overtime.

At the G there is far more space than at Tassie and BBB deep will be a threat.

Wont be dropped. For the same reason he came in before Sam.

He was the Afls leading goal kicker THREE years in a row up till the the year b4 last.

Let it sink in. Mfc has the PROVEN best Ff in the comp in Bbb.

He will do even better outside of his old flailing club.

He is here to stay at ff for a long time and play a huge part of our success.

Aside from Frittas uncanny excell.j ent form I would still wager Bbb will outscore him. Just.?

Ps didnt play too badly yesterday anyway with two goals one. Allowed Fritta to run into space and kick six.

I assume the points are based on the above formula. The chasing, closing and physical pressure all are vital in forcing rushed disposal from the opposition.

Seems like there's a fine line between sophisticated algorithms and alchemy. To be able to "score" player actions in real time - which must be happening for Fox to be able to state what a team's pressure rating is - there must be a panoply of specialist statisticians at every game. As interesting as this data is, in these days of Covid-induced cost cutting, I really wonder whether it's necessary.

Probably been covered here already, but my ability to go through 10 pages of contributions on a Monday is limited - which is putting it generously.

Tomlinson and Viney are obviously out for a bit.  Jones went OK as in IN for Viney, but I'd rather we played him as a burst player, I don't think he will last the year otherwise; which isn't very fair on a bloke that deserves to play finals. Id bring in Sparrow for Viney and keep Jones.

McDonald went well in defense and I rate him more highly down there than Petty.  Keep him there and bring in Weidemann. Let Jackson play the roaming CHF role that McDonald has been doing and let Weidemann chop in and out of the ruck.

Great post. Except keep Sw out of the ruck cos Lj is doing a bang up job in that area.

Tmac back yes. We have the 3 best defenders in the comp then. (Tmac was an excellent defender)

Sw st chf.

All is fine again.

I think I'm as negative as anyone on here about Ben Brown, but I wouldn't be making a call on his place in the finals - in 17 weeks time - based on his first up performance. That's about as useful as saying a horse won't win the Melbourne cup based on its first up run.

The same goes for Tom as a defender. I wouldn't have done it, but he's just played there for a half and did a good job, and we need to go with a more mobile forward line against the Swans. If Tom got first crack at filling Tomlinson's role whilst Petty gets a bit more match fitness at Casey I wouldn't say it was going to be a disaster purely based on Tom's form in 2017 before he went forward.

Matty Lloyd was an all time great but he was also a player who failed to adapt to the way the game changed. Both Tom and Ben can adapt if they are trained up correctly

I still have doubts about SWs ability to roam like TMac does, hence my thoughts on putting Jackson in that role, but happy to be proven wrong!

Swans to get back Buddy and Dean Rampe.   Back in the days when T mac was a defender he was one of the only players in the league who consistently did well on Buddy.  Just sayin'.

Goodwin hasn't proved anything yet.

And if he puts Mcdonald back, it just proves that. Mcdonald failed as a backman for 7 years before trialled forward. Surely enough is enough. Unfortunately Petty is also a superior forward than a backman.

The reason McDonald failed as a backman was because he had no help, I would put him back if he is playing Tomlinson role he is the perfect replacement, he looks after the most dangerous tall which will be buddy and let may and lever do the heavy lifting, it’s when he had to think too much is when he got himself into trouble

Out Tomlinson

Spot on. I think people forget that struggling teams can be annoying to play. Even at our worst the Dees produced quite a few 'honourable losses'... and this one barely fits that category given the final margin. Take the win and move on, winning a game isn't easy in professional sport

As our number one backman. It might be a different story taking the second or third best forward and worth a try to get Weeds in.

I'm not going to 'pile' on you Dr.D - but your comment re: Petty - is this true, that he is a superior forward?

In the games that he played in 2019 I thought that to be the case, strong in the contest, could kick a goal.

So for me, I guess I bow down to the FD who are with him daily at training etc, have a range of metics, and in the end ascertain that they think he suits the side best in the backline.

How do you come to a different conclusion?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
