Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think it is offensive to say “Jones dumped”

just as it was equally offensive to say before his 300th that he was was a “perennial “ loser. He is a 33 yr old ...had a huge few weeks...surely “ managed” is appropriate.

i like Bedford or sparrow over both Jones and melksham both now and for the future

Sure, agree. Am not a Melksham apologist. But at 6-0 against bottom of the table North... I reckon we can risk having a look at it.

Selection is a joke.

Jones is in better form than Melk amd he gets omitted.

Well some things haven’t changed since last season with goody. Pathetic.

Did you really think milkshake would get dropped?

Yea Jones gives us more than Melky.

Jones could be done on 300, I’d be surprised if he can make it back in with so few injuries.

It’s a long season.
Hope he has a rest tomorrow.

Do people honestly think Melksham would continue to be selected if the greater match committee (not just Goodwin) didn’t think it was in the team’s best interest to do so? The “Goodwin plays favourites” argument just makes no logical sense.

I agree with it because it was the change I'd hoped for.

Jones is no longer a midfielder, as you assert.  He's playing a pressure HF role.

Unlike many here, I prefer Melksham to Jones.  It was clearly out of those two as to who was going to be omitted.

I want to support a caring but ruthless footy club.  Jones was honoured brilliantly by the club, but it has also shown it does what good clubs do, select the best team to win as they explore the right team balance across the course of the season.

This side is as good as it gets.  One can debate Weideman v McDonald, but in essence their current outputs are about the same, so they cancel each other out.

Excellent post, fully agree. As much as I respect Jonesy, Melksham has the edge in being able to impact the game, by hitting the scoreboard. This is as close to best 22 we will get.

I personally would still have a fully fit James Harmes in the best 22 however as you state we're pretty close to best 22 at the moment.

I'm not sure who he'd replace. i really rate the role James Jordan is playing and i think Harmes would have to be part of the midfield rotations to be in the team.

I think Ben Brown is going to have to get back to his best to hold his spot, T'Mac is playing his role Beautifully as is Jackson. if Brown doesn't play well, i imagine Weid will take his spot very quickly.

Experienced Demonlanders, is this the best team we’ve put on the park since 1994? Maybe even older?

1998 finals would be right up there.

Farmer, Neitz and the Ox was such a formidable forward line.

Hang on Nash, weren't you saying during the week Spargo should be dropped because he wasn't getting enough disposals? Are we trusting the match committee or not?

Its the best backline and midfield we have had in a long time.  Forward line could be very good but nothing like the Jakovich/Schwarz/Lyon and then the Neitz/Schwarz/Farmer days.

Best 22 overall,  yeah if Ben Brown gets back to his 60 goal a year self.

Ah ok, apologies then.

It might have looked that way because everyone kept pouncing on me, but what I actually said was this:

“Jones, Melksham and Spargo are our clear bottom 3 at present. I think a case can be made for any of those threeto go - but only one of them. I’d pick Brown ahead of Weid.”

Strange Chandler is in 23, probably sub, when he played Thursday and Baker didn’t play.

Is he in the 23? The pic in the OP just has him listed as one of the four emergencies (along with Jones, Baker and Petty). We don’t know the 23rd player yet.

Melksham played well against the Hawks. Jones hasn't had a good game yet he was O.K against the Tigers but that's it. Obvious exclusion for Brown. Undoubtfully Melksham is under the pump if they are to fit in the Weid.

I don’t like the optics, but Jones is closest to not being best 22 of the current side, very very closely followed by Melksham, who is surely one more poor game away from being replaced by a red hot Chandler

I'm no Melksham fan, but I'd have him in my side ahead of Chandler every day of the week. Chandler red hot? Missed some very easy opportunities against witches hats on Thursday.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
