I realise that memory is temporary (in my case anyway) and selective.. picking up Yung Bloods comments, despite missing Finals in 2020 the team was building and developing. At the time and even with hindsight we see the defeats, the disappointments and another unsuccessful year. 

Our impatience with the team and coach was perhaps unfair. As referred to by others, it takes a significant period for clubs to develop a winning combination. In almost all cases, the great coaches as measured today, were under the pump with the axe set to fall in their early years. 

So I guess it’s a lesson in patience and looking at the medium to long term rather than results in the short term. 

It is difficult though given MFC long time in the wilderness and the 24 hour 7 days news cycle, social media, and commentators who want to dramatise everything in terms of success or failure. Fans crave the immediate Adrenalin rush like craving cocaine or other addictive drug. 

Its a lesson in having a stable club with administration, executive and footy club in alignment with good honest communication and an understanding of what’s required for success. To not give in to those who want to pursue change for change sake. It is important to not destroy or dismantle all things and work on incremental improvement at all levels in all areas. It is about having excellent and credible leadership at all levels, and having everyone committed to the task of building success and ensuring that there is a supportive and respected environment. 

It is about never giving up or losing hope and using adversity to learn from mistakes and to build resilience. 

And to never forget that we are dealing with people, flesh and blood, who have feelings and emotions. An an example, the importance of Nathan Jones and reaching his 300. The impact of this on the club, the players and supporters can’t be under estimated. 

And it’s great to see the emotion that is being generated at the oldest footy club in the land. We are perhaps witnessing the rebirth of a proud footy club. 

As they say, there is a long way to go and the challenge is to temper our expectations and accept there will be ups and downs. 

But at the moment it is a nice feeling to be proud of our club and be happy to have hung in over all the years of disappointment. To have had hope and faith. To see the outpouring of emotion from Demon fans. The wait may have all been worth it after all.

I am nonplussed by the medical diagnosis of Dustin Martin. He was allowed to continue playing despite being CONCUSSED. I thought that was against the rules of the game. He was injured near the start of the 3rd quarter, went off soon after, then blow me down, he continues playing!!! I thought the concussion protocols didn't allow that sort of thing...

Currently watching the replay again and this gave me the [censored] listening on first replay, but we're not even 10 or 15 minutes in yet and Luke [censored] Darcy has patronisingly said basically the same thing three times; that this is a step up in class to what Melbourne have been used to.

Well, Darcy, you absolute thick gronk, who have your mob beaten? i bet you he wouldn't be saying that repeatedly if you were commentating this Friday night and when your Bulldogs are involved. You can pretty much hear him hoping we get pummelled early on.

He was a lowlife as a player and he's a bloody ordinary commentator, with all the insight and analytical clout of a bag of bricks.

I'm perfectly happy with how we're going and enjoying the ride. I'm not enjoying the patronisation by a muppet whose team has had a much softer draw than us, but has none of the patronisation coming their way, only hype.

For any Aussie who hasn't been to a pro baseball game, don't. It's all signing and chanting and cheerleaders. The game barely comes into it.

Then you have no sponsors and membership fees go to $1,000 for the basic package and $10,000k for the top package... sponsors are needed by all clubs (even grounds and the AFL have sponsors) and they need to be seen by lots of eyes to justify paying the clubs for the “privilege”.

Don't think you are right.

It is a supply and demand thing, not a cost and balance arrangement. 

The big money really comes from the broadcast rights. The viewers don't see or hear the stadiums "carry on".

Too expensive ($1 000 and $10 000) and not many go and they lose interest. As a result, the games have no atmosphere. Broadcasters pay less for the rights. Advertising is not as productive and profitable. Just shooting themselves in the foot if they charge that!

The same may happen to the crowd (less will go), if the "entertainment" becomes intrusive, and it could be heading that way. It seems they are trying to artificially create atmosphere. It doesn't work for most (possibly ok for juvenile minds).

Atmosphere is more intense, when it is spontaneous and natural. Hoping the sponsors will recognise that soon, as I don't like the intrusive and annoying noise, hype and lights.

The masses will always dictate the terms. That is why the minority will attempt to manipulate the masses and spin doctors and advertisers get the big bucks.

Power belongs to the people, always has, always will.

If only we could all be self/independent thinking and not be led down the path of illusions.

In other words we own the game, not the corporates.

I said to myself in the first 20 mins that same comment We were not handling the sep up in class at all well.

Made every mistake and fumble in the book and could have been 5goals  to nil down at 20 min. Mark.

But credit where credit is due we kicked 10.8 to 2.5 in the next 70 mins till 3/4 time to totally control the game.

Last quarter was a holding operation done without much fuss and much attention to team ethos and structure till it broke the Tigers discipline level.

Just as they may/will recall  Kossie was a little cheeky ( didn't mind it at all no backward steps from this new Demon) then we can bank the Tigers lack of Team discipline for future Occasions.

The explosion of barracking as the siren announces the start of play. So since the advent of all this crap have the crowd numbers increased? Has the level of crowd satisfaction increased? We all know the answers and yet the morons running the AFL think we want blasting music and light shows.  How about the AFL do a survey of club members and ask them what they like and dislike. This is not a TV issue so ask us.

Yep, at 2.3.15 to 0.0.0, things were a little concerning, but not necessarily from a step up in class. It seemed we were a little hesitant, waiting at contests, not aggressively invading the space of Richmond players when they had the ball. Goodwin called it ‘ball watching’ in the after-match presser. Perhaps too much deference to the opposition and occasion, at least initially?

Anyway, as has been said in this forum, Charlie Spartacus changed all that in an instant with his ferocious tackle on Houli. Charlie’s tackling this year has been unbelievable. Sitting near the fence line last Sat night, you appreciate just how much commitment, effort and weight (for a small bloke) he puts into it. The slap, latch and crunch of a Spargo tackle is a thing of primeval beauty! It inspires the team.

As for Kozzie’s antics at the end, I also loved it. And Richmond’s ‘holier than thou’ attitude about this amuses me, particularly as many of their players spent much of the game sniping in marking and ruck contests, and in stacks-on scrimmages. Yes, they’ve been a great team and have earnt respect for past deeds but that doesn’t mean opposition teams should sit back and bow to their magnificence. Quite the opposite, I would have thought.

Just on this, it’s been quite instructive to see Richmond’s reactions to their losses against Port and us, and their need to point to past glories. Are they insecure about their prospects this season? Remember, Hardwick got all defensive and hoity-toity towards the Port supporter who offered him a tissue when he quipped, “We’ve won three of the last four flags mate, I’m not sure I need a tissue.” Riewoldt and others appeared to do something similar with Pickett, as if to say, “Get back in your box, show some respect, you ain’t achieved anything yet,” which is sort of all true but do they need to say it? They obviously think they do.

Anyway, I’m hoping the Tigers will be 4-6 soon, with their 2021 premiership aspirations - and indeed their era - over.

I wonder if promoters of rock concerts would consider putting on an AFL match to warm up the crowd! Or during the fireworks on New year's eve, or what about during intermission at the ballet? Of course not it's a stupid idea. I go to the footy to watch footy.

Someone, a mate who prefers anonimity, spoke with me about Dusty's alleged concussion, and then his return to the field to play on --  against the rules of sound player management.                                   

The footy analyst (my mate) suggested that the Hibberd 'run with' role on Dusty was so effective, Dusty quit the game on the spot at the first opportunity for a feint injury. He's a great player but he, too, like Dangerfield, also appears to be a sook.
