Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks for this. Altough it was a close call, I thought Salem was better than Trac . He had 21 possies by half time. So many deadly as well.

But back to Trac, he certainly has moved to a level we were all hoping for. Probably more so.

Oliver, reliable and committed as ever.

And Jake Lever continues to display all the reasons we recruited him for. His quick decision making to punch/ mark, leave his player and hitting the right target is going from strength to strength.

Tmac has stepped right back into his form of first moving up forward. A great effort.

And Max.....well hes Max?

Just watched the Kossie vs Mansell thing again. I reckon it's great that Kossie has the mongrel to take it the Richmond guys. Also in that melee, Jackson at 19 years old wasn't scared to throw his weight around, and Rivers was in there too letting the Tiges players know what was what. The whole incident amounted to a statement by our club: just try to push us around. Find out how that goes.

It won't be too long before oppo players think twice about getting in Kossie's face. He's not as big as uncle Byron but he's inherited some **** from him.

Word for Word, we haven't been bruise free since before Roos, but it is not our only trick now, btw, I swear Viney scares the C^@p out of the opposition. Everyone talks about the Tigers now putting our names up on the wall, I feel like ever since Stack laid out Viney he had been looking forward to hunting some Tigers, he put a huge amount of hurt on them on Saturday, and personally I think he would to do it again in a final.

Viney, Kossie, Jones, May, Weid, Rivers, ANB, Jordan, Jackson, Trac, Oliver, Nev, AVB, and Salem - can lay a hard tackle as well. Others may have had there moments and not wanting to forget anyone, but just speaking to these guys that I can say hit hard.

Personally Port and WCE are the one's I most want to see us put some physical pressure on next. (Port for the dog acts on Gawn and WCE because of the prelim.)

Gee, he's impressive is Tommo. Good on him. Loving his contribution to our team. For mine he's been our best defender this year. He's not flashy or demonstrative like May or Lever, but he just keeps winning contests. Love all three of them back there.

Another thing I wanted to say is regarding the Video of the Week, Petracca's goal, the TV coverage does not do it justice. It makes it look as though Petracca is almost by himself when he gets the ball and it's an uncontested burst onto the footy, but in the lead up to the forward entry, Petracca used his body brilliantly to outmuscle and out position his opponent before bursting onto the ball. It was sublime.

Imagine the extra lift the side will get if Petracca recommits in the next few weeks.

He looks bigger this year. I dont think his size stats are accurate. Looks almost as big as May. He has most certainly improved.

Bit late to the thread. Having to much fun reading everything.

Was reading puntroadend last night, they were pumping up Nankervis as their best, have to agree he played a blinder. His blinder broke even with Max’s not bad game lolz.

Someone on here said Salem wasn’t an A grader and I disagreed. I apologise, you were right. He’s A+
How clean was he? The poise, the no look handballs, he’s in the [censored] zone.

Having a bonafide star like Petracca hit me on Saturday night. When he took that ball that almost slipped behind his back, bounced off Viney and surged it forward I was awe struck. Really dawned on me that we have a talent that the whole competition would envy. Would want to watch. Would want on their team. It’s been so long since we’ve had anyone like that and I’m going to appreciate every second of it.

The stupidity of Hunt bouncing in the wet, how good was it! He [censored] flew down the field. By the time I thought “don’t bounce it!” He’d already covered 50 metres. His return to form is glorious to watch. So happy for him.

Luke mother [censored] Jackson. I’m sure it’s been covered here or elsewhere but has a 19 year old ruckman ever done this well? I can’t think of any. He’s going to be something else.

Oliver and Langdon put in the same performance every single week. So reliable, so good.

May (what a warrior), Lever and Tomlinson make me feel warm and safe.

So happy for the Tomald resurrection. I hope he keeps the VFL towers in the VFL. I think we’ll lose some forward pressure bringing one of them in.

I could go through the whole team but t I won’t.

[censored] the Tigers.

They are desperate to find positives down at Punt Road after that humiliation.

Thanks for posting this interview.

I found it very interesting and insightful.

This bloke is understated but impressive.

More importantly, he gave us an insight into the mindset and resilience of the team. A coming of age regarding skill, attitude and application. Leadership, individual strength and team think. It’s very reassuring when many are wondering if it’s another false dawn that will be dismembered after a few losses.

This interview suggests not.

This interview suggests not.

He also reiterated what Goody said his his post match presser. This hasn't just formed out of nowhere. We were building from the back half of last year. Besides the shocking Cairns games which put a dagger through our finals hopes we put some good football together around and especially after where there was a buy in from players to play for each other as Tomlinson and Goody states.

Marry that with a good preseason where by all reports players came back more fit and motivated then ever with that team mindset and we've hit the ground running. It's building more belief every single week.

Tomlinson is a prime example of a player that has been backed by his coaching staff and team mates to solidify a role and really hone his craft. Some of his one on one work this season has been elite against some of the oppo's best forwards. He's no liability with ball in hand also with him possibly being top 5 kicks in the side IMO.

Its also astonishing that our three youngest players in Rivers, Jackson and Kozzie can be relied upon to play their roles as major contributors to a 6-0 team.

I'm sure we'd love to get this connection right, but I think we're happy to sacrifice some stoppage work to ensure our defensive system behind the ball is rock solid.

Around the ground at stoppages, particularly at throw ins, we have often continued to go with one less at the stoppage, and one extra behind the ball - credit to @Axis of Bob for pointing this out weeks ago. This so often allows May or Lever or Salem to peel off behind the ball as the spare interceptor. It's a brilliant move and because our mids are so strong and Max is so dominant/Jackson rucks as an extra mid, we don't lose a whole lot by going one less in at stoppage.

I think in the first quarter our centre square stoppages weren't as well set up. Our mids were too close to the rucks, with not enough separation. I think Oliver should almost always start well wide of the ruck contest, so that he can hit the ball drop at speed. It takes his opponent almost completely out of it, as Oliver has such an elite burst of speed when he hits the ball.

It used to happen every week but now, by and large, addressed

Nice to have some big players that others dont want to mess with.

If anyone wants a laugh pop over to The Punt Road end tigers forum. Some of the dribble in their post match thread is pretty entertaining. The way they speak you'd think the flag is a given for them. Not even going to mention what they think of us.

Yeah, not really sure what they were watching. Nankervis was bog ordinary. I'd even say McEvoy did a better job against Max and Max took 8+ marks on him.

My god, it's a visual abortion. However i did pluck out this little gem from their post-game discussion...

"I'm the same in regards to hating their fans and everything about their club"

? Being hated...so much better than being pitied!

My 2c is that HPM's come with a 2-3 year plan. So he's in the 2nd year of that. If he sees a flag coming, he'll probably see it through. If not, ....

Is that what it's called...? Wow. Turn it off. All of it. No music, no lights no boundary sprints, no flying on the tackle pad thingies..... Australians want an entertaining game of footy. It's not baseball...

For any Aussie who hasn't been to a pro baseball game, don't. It's all signing and chanting and cheerleaders. The game barely comes into it.

Some rubbish on there, but also found this gem which I found pretty useful.

"I'm the same in regards to hating their fans and everything about their club. The fans and players ability to get ahead of themselves. And Goodwin is a very bland operator who hasn't had an original idea in his life.

But they have a very well balanced lineup IMO. They have the best ruck in the game in Gawn and and very good midfield. Petracca is a beast. Oliver very good. They appear more selfless. Luke Jackson looks a real talent, he is the perfect backup ruck/forward, the type you want Mabs to be. Pickett did nothing against us but is exciting. Salem a very good user. Speed with Hunt/Langdon. Fritsch is so punchable but is a very good medium forward option. Ben Brown will get a game and add a different dimension with the new rules in play. If he is fit he should do well.

Compare them with the side of 2018 that made the prelim:

OUT -
Jetta - will be in their best 22 when fit
Oscar McDonald - dud
Jordan Lewis - was finished at the time
Joel Smith - dud
Mitch Hannan - dud
James Harmes - battler
Aaron Vandenburg - dud
Dom Tyson - dud
Sam Weideman - big dud

IN -
Jayden Hunt - getting better with more experience much better composure this year.
May - A grade full back serious improvement on O Mac
Lever - punchable but smart 3rd tall defender. Upgrade on Lewis/Smith
Tomlinson - not convinced he is any good, but better than Joel Smith
Langdon - improver with speed and a better option than Harmes
Jackson - a real talent, massive upgrade on Weideman
Fritsch - a challenging matchup and upgrade on Vandenburg
Pickett - shows real promise, upgrade on Hannan

James Jordan? Trent Rivers?

Their midfield group of Gawn/Petracca/Oliver/Viney/Brayshaw have another 2 seasons under their belt and have all improved. Gawn is a serious footballer now not a part-time clown.

As much as I despise them they will be a big challenge for any side if they can keep their best side on the park and if Brown gets fit. A much better balanced side than the Bulldogs IMO."

I hope he stays too. But with his kids in Adelaide I can't see it happening and fair enough.

The onus is on the club from management to the players to really cement the habits and strategies when it comes to fitness and recovery that Burgo has put in place. I have no doubt he will have a lot to do with signing the next man for the job to continue to keep the players motivated and engaged in this area of the game.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
