Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFL Mid Season Draft 2021

Whispering_Jack

Mid season rookie draft is a big deal this year, will be gun kids that don't get picked in the draft due to not playing footy in 2020. And this is a chance to get them before next years national draft.

Trade a bloke who has rediscovered his best form?

Have you been kicked off Facebook and need the attention?

The mid-season draft is just that, a draft. Not a trade period...

Your obviously missing the point, I’m saying trade him because he has more value now, we. Have him covered in the big man department, by the way I don’t like your attitude :)

Yeah, sorry about that.

How can you be sure we have him covered? Weideman kicked a bag in the reserves, but that doesn't mean he will do so in the seniors.

Tommy is playing great footy right now. He is a keeper.

I can’t be sure 100% we’d have him covered, but his value would be high I’d imagine and with BB, Weid,  LJ I’d say we could swap him out for a quality small for team balance.

You're not wrong in that we are spoilt for choice in the tall forward department. I'd certainly be thinking about trading one of them at seasons end if we could fill another gap, such as another starting winger or small pressure forward for depth.

Lets see what it all looks like after September

Moot point considering it's only a draft, but I'm not yet convinced that we are that close to a flag that such a brutal approach would be beneficial.

I agree with others it's not a discussion for now with there being no opportunity to trade him mid season (only free agents) and keeping big man depth is important I think with us having such good depth in pretty much every other position (other then wing maybe).

BUT I am a bit pessimistic when it comes to Tmac. He is playing his role well currently yes. I don't think he's anywhere near his 2018 form nor do I think he will achieve this again. The bar has been set lower for him playing more a lead up role where he simply needs to create marking contests further up the ground and float back to do so in the forward line. His pressure in the forward line has been impressive but I think mostly his form has been more of a product of the overall teams form and cohesiveness.

I have made note of it many times on here, Tom's straight line running and tank is excellent no question, however his mobility/agility is so restricted. Regardless of how much weight he lost in the off season, he can't turn easily at all and this really limits his ability in contests that aren't in the air. I fear this will make him a liability in this possible wing role when/if the other two bigs come into the side.

I hope he continues to play this well whether in seniors or at Casey as his market value has definitely gone up and is a prime candidate for trade to another club in need of a decent key forward.

I thought he was cooked but he has come to the rescue when our tall stocks were decimated. Delighted with how he is going.

I wouldn't move him during the mid season as the reality is he is playing well and is excellent cover and is in fact holding down a first team spot on merit.

At the end of the year we can take stock and look at trade options but for now let's just focus on the season ahead (which is shaping up nicely)

Agree... he is a prime candidate for trading at year's end. Getting his salary off the books and perhaps a player or pick in return is a big turnaround from a few months ago.

Sorry to burst the happy / blue sky bubble

But how are we spoilt with choice exactly ? Our forward line is getting the job done largely because our midfield and back six are performing well by getting repeat inside 50s and stopping the opposition from scoring

Fritta - rate him highly but not a KPF
TMac - looks like he has returned to some good form but even now not kicking bags of goals
BBB - past performance is no guarantee of future performance - lets hope he can deliver when he finally gets his chance but totally untested in a MFC jumper at senior level yet
Weid - so many divided views on whether he is the real deal - one things for sure has never consistently performed at the top level - not saying he won't or can't just hasn't done it yet
M Brown - honest servant but no champion and if all the above are fit would be last in line for selection
Daw - not really a forward imo

In short, not sure why this would even be suggested - forget about the fact that its not possible

What you say makes some sense or I guess cents but have not injurues reduced us to a shortage?

Best to keep as many as possible if we can afford it.

Besides  give Tom his dues. We would not be in the eight without him.

What do we need anyway?

Maybe a small defender but thats about it imho.

If he keeps playing like he has been it would be more appropriate to trade someone else.

I'm sorry but for anyone saying that this is McDonald's career best footy then they have clearly forgotten about 2018 where he was much better. In terms of kicking goals and conversion and overall speed.

Assume this may be the avenue they go down.

He'll be 29 when this season wraps up and has another 12 months on good coin. Unless they potentially extend his contract and spread some of the 2022 salary to future years to alleviate some 2022 cap tightness?

That being said just need to monitor how the forward line goes this year and look at needs/wants at end of the season.

Tom is doing the role that we hope that weed could do. Weed needs to prove that he belongs at the top level and play at a consistently high standard

You have my vote. Tom was put up for sale. Nothing happened and he rekindled his enthusiasm and has come back in great form. Without him where would we have been in the first five games? Now someone wants to fling him on the chance an long term injured FF is now wonderful anD an occasional good player is going to be great every week. A great way to reward Tom.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
