Surely Sean Charles fits every "disappointing player" criteria mentioned.

Talent to burn, but never got close to reaching his potential due to injuries and attitude.

You're missing the point.

We're talking about players who promised the world and failed to deliver. Cam Hunter was a low draft pick and a speculative selection at best. While there are high hopes for all players, there were no great expectations placed on Hunter. It’s really no surprise he was delisted after three seasons.

hmm yea fair point there WM i get ya now. hunter looked like he was gonna struggle at afl level he was too skinny and not really skilled enough. but this year was always amake or break year for him

TOP 10 DISAPPOINTS THAT I REMEMBER.

1# ALLEN JAKOVICH - Had all the talent and flair to be a great at the club but did not have then discipline imagine if he had the discipline of his brother.

2# SEAN CHARLES - Again had all the talent but could not handle life in the AFL.

3# DARREN CUTHBERTSON - His first 5 games were fantastic but for some reason he lost the plot and was never the same player again.

4# BRENT GRGIC - Remember his game against Collingwood in '98 when he took 12 marks. It wasn't long before he was a disgrace.

5# DARREN KOWAL - We decided to keep him instead of recruiting Wirrapunda GREAT MOVE BALMEY !!!

6# SHANE WOEWODIN - Winning the Brownlow was the worst thing that ever happened to him.

7# CHRIS HEFFERNAN - Had a big reputation never delivered.

8# CRAIG TURLEY - Another player with a big repuation that didn't deliver was later found out he already had back problems before we recruited him another great move Balmey.

9# MARCUS SEECAMP - Should of held on to Martin Pike.

10# NEIL BALME - I know he never played a game for us but as a coach he was a disgrace, had a big reputation as a coach after winning a priemership with Norwood and Woodville West Torrens. His decision to recruit heaps of rejects instead of youngsters was a real winner and put us 10 years behind the rest of the competition.

Chris Aitken... promised to be a big marking forward... kicked five last round 68? against later premiers, essingdon.

i remember diamond jim's first run at the ball in the south game at waverley. he charged in, the ball bounced badly and he over-ran it... Lou richards used to call diamond jim 'tillendrium' tillbrook as well, once his lustre had faded. apparently tillendrium is a less valued metal.

Owen was an awesome player and back in the days of having 52 on the list he was worth a shot, his skills were a level above everyone else at the club it was just his problem with drinking that let him down.

Extremely disappointing player but definitely worth a shot.

There is ONE and ONLY ONE biggest dissapointment, and that was....

CRAIG TURLEY!!!!!

We got him form the eagles, he was one of their top 5 players, and he was in his prime when we got him. We traded chopper lovell who was IMO a great demons player. Turley came and was useless. I think the dees cut him with a year to run on his contract. All he wanted to do in melbourne was surf and bang chicks is what i was told from ppl around the club!

Haven't seen Rod Keogh's name among the glitterati so far mentioned. Now there was a real dissapointment. Won all the minor league medals as I recall but could not do it in the big-time (and he wore no. 31 to boot).

I wish I had had the toughness to be considered by the Melbourne Football Club to be asked to training.

Warren Dean(for example) was a star who played at CHF when he was a wingman.

Its a sad state of affairs when posts like this ask supporters to eat their own.

Its about players who never fulfilled their potential for whatever reason.Prymke had bonkers back;Jakovich ate chicken with 'skin on', Sean Charles liked to go walkabout up the Murray. C'mon, lighten-up.Problem is, we've got a couple of good lists of these identities. Its healthy to reflect now & again.

Burston was actually a boom ruck recruit of 1966. I remember him in his first practice match for Melbourne, an interclub game, the last of the '66 pre season. Apparently, this star player from University Blacks had been holidaying in Hawaii and he virtually stepped off the plane with his magnificent build and an even more magnificent sun tan. Looked a million bucks.

Played in an ordinary side at Melbourne but I remember him starring in a memorable victory over Hawthorn when he kicked 6 goals playing ruck and a forward pocket. Strangely enough, was dropped soon after. There's a story behind that but I'm not 100% sure it's true so I won't repeat it here.

Yes, disappointing but I still stand by my earlier comment about Tilbrook.

Tell you what, for those who join the Demonland/Demonology/Bigfooty supporters group I'll reveal my top 5 disappointing Demons at the first function plus my top 5 who surprised me.
