Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I noticed that Goodwin was having a chat with Kozzi after the incident. Looked like he was giving him some advice on how to handle himself. Kozzie is still young and callow and what makes him exciting and watchable also has the potential to backfire on him. I guess after decades of pain some of the exuberance and gloating was understandable but has the potential to derail our mojo if not checked. I recall in the 1990’s we beat WC in Perth in an upset and there was some ugly disrespectful things from our players at the end of the game. Ever since they have been paying us back.

Goody's comments indicated much the same in the post game press conference. I've noticed our senior players don't whinge to the umpires like those of other clubs, e.g. Geelong, we just crack in harder on the next play to get the ball back. As a supporter this is the sort of behaviour I want to see. Things started to get a bit silly in the fourth, fines will be handed out on both sides for the melee, and Kozi will learn to be more humble in the future.

Staying humble is important. It's so fun right now when we're winning to say it's all justified, but remember that game vs St Kilda in 2017 when we mocked them and then didn't make the finals?

So I'm not sure about Pickett pointing to the scoreboard. 6-0 is incredible but it's not a premiership. It's not even qualification for finals, let alone a finals win.

However...

The aggression on the field is to be commended (so long as it stays within the laws of the game). So I have no issue, at all, with Pickett roughing up Mansell. Richmond were playing dirty all night: Edwards bumped Oliver late and hit him in the throat. A Richmond supporter near me said "next time hit him harder and knock him out". Every time Gawn got back in the hole, whichever Richmond player was coming up essentially made Gawn their primary target and the ball secondary. Their persona is typified by Tom Lynch, who is a top 10 dog of the competition, if not the number one.

My sister was telling me this morning that a Richmond supporter woman sitting in front of them got all upset and had words with my sisters 12 yo son, because he was saying Richmond's ruckman was crap.  Lol.

The Richmond guys in front of us were very lippy early on, calling Fritsch soft for wearing a glove etc. Didn't hear boo from them from midway through the 2nd ?

It's a good point and a hard thing to do (refraining from arguing with umpires). Takes a lot of discipline and in the long run it works in your favor.

Was furious about this at the game.

Happens every week, and it infuriates me the AFL dont make the umpires protect him. Do they want him literally knocked out of the game?

But Richmond are the worst. And agree on lynch. Sniper. Cant stand him.

And i was even more furious watching the replay with both Darcy and Richardson praising lynch and riewoldt for making Max 'earn it' and richo saying 'as a forward you just have to do it'. They must live in a world where concussion does not exist.

Watching drinking light beers last night - where Max took a mark and for the 5th time Nankervis was all pre-mediated tumbling on top of him and his back and neck - to make him earn it... I seriously had a moment where I worried for his future mental/physical health.

It beggars belief that there is no genuine protection for certain players who mark the ball...

Think this works both ways. Distinctly remember Neitz targeting defenders or ruckman that drop into the hole. And boy did he hit them hard.

We should continue to do it as well. It's a tough competition.

Low class bogans.

They'll be back to baking rats and belting the missus in no time. Fortunately there are plenty of rats available in Richmond.

The umpiring was predictably woeful. Gross inconsistency in the holding the man/ball interpretations. Some appalling decisions relating to whether a kick had or had not gone 15 metres. Plenty of throws missed, this truly is a blight on the game. If the AFL wants to allow throwing then they can go and re-form the VFA and [censored] off quite frankly - enforce the bloody rules.

22nd man beat me to it, but Melbourne should really be very disappointed in that crowd. 56,000 was pathetic and I reckon half the crowd were Richmond. They were 5-0 and playing the reigning premiers and still didn't turn up in numbers. They can blame COVID or the weather but in reality it was just pathetic. There should have been at least 70,000 there tonight and the Melbourne supporters should have clearly outnumbered us at their own home game. No idea how many (few) members they have but Melbourne supporters are looking like their own stereotype of heartless supporters who aren't even fair weather supporters since they didn't even turn up tonight. Their heart beats true? Really? They are a club without a heart and they may have fixed the culture amongst the playing group but they have a hell of a lot of work to get a culture amongst their supporter base.

DS

I was very disappointed with the crowd too...

I know a member of the umpiring panel and the clubs are getting smarter. I was told that after round 3 Brisbane asked the umpires for feedback on who at their club has been giving lip as they want to stop it. The umpires have spent many hours at all clubs pre season working with clubs educating them about the new man on the mark rule. My contact has been at MFC practise a few times and was happy to tell me that they we are one of the better clubs when it comes to respecting umpires. It annoys me that Geelong and Richmond players are always putting their arms up and appealing for cheap frees. It came as no surprise to me when I asked about Selwood that he is one of the worst.

I actually don't disagree with many of their observations. Many dees fans around me were embarrassing with their gloating - was a fantastic win and no one knows what it's like to have been a dees fan, but you'd expect some humility given all we have gone through. It is only April.

I don't agree that Tigers fans weren't like this in 2017 though. I recall they were, led by Riewoldt on field.

I might be the only one but I didn't enjoy Kozzie's actions in the 4th. Mansell had held him well all day (with some sniping/rough stuff but par for the course)

I doubt a punch in the 'nads is par for the course.

I'm pretty sure he coped a punch to the nads before his shot at goal from the boundary.

He reached to his right groin and was grimacing. They targeted him and he triumphed over it.

I was at the 2000 GF.

No protection for our boys that day

According to Richmond BigFooty every Dees player is a 'campaigner'. I think they need to work on expanding their vocabulary as a collective, there are far more creative insults out there!

It's not so much the hits to the head these days.
It's the knees into the back and ribs, but hell.

He did it in the 2017 game. Put his knees into one of our guys right on the MCC wing in front of us and our guy bit back (can't remember who), Cotchin got the free kick, the momentum turned and they ran all over us.

He's become a good leader, but he's very Selwood. Little [censored].

Glad to hear Goodwin was having a word. Mentioned in his presser too that Kossie needs to deal with the attention better. More or less vindicates my concern so I'm not sure why it's hyperbole.

I haven't seen the incident in full in replay but from what I could see, Kossie somewhat instigated it.

Agree with what you're saying though - passionate young kid who will mature in time. Just need to watch he doesn't overstep it in the meantime as I said, because the media narrative can quickly turn on him and like it or not, that can impact performance and careers.

If a Richmond player had done this, we would be baying for blood and calling him a sniper. People were already calling Mansell a thug and sniper and he barely did anything.

It’s what Mansell did prior to the free kick, and ultimately the melee, that caused Kossie to react the way he did. Sniper. But what do you expect with Hardwick as coach

I,m trying to name a dirty player in our Team, seriously? And i'm a lovely person. This is fun, and far better than being regarded as "shouldn't be in the AFL, not good enough to play certain days, who would want to play for them and needs to merge with other clubs"

My sons have been waiting for this type of team to be the team that they have seen in all the other Clubs at one time or another.

Fair , tough and successful. That's all it's about, ask any Coach...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
