Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That’s it and he’ll be hungry for more chances, obviously I don’t want this to happen but if a player goes down coming up to a critical game (dare I say final) he’ll be prepared for the call up to fill in.

That was an awful, gutting miss. Redemption comes from opportunity, maybe this week?

I sincerely hope it is Pates but if he is promoted to the senior side this week it's just as likely he'll be dropped back to the magoos within a month to find some form.

Agreed JG, the notion of bringing in both Brown and Weidemann together and they immediately fit in harmoniously, with other forwards and mid-fielders is questionable. It will take time to develop synergy between, what is currently working well and adding new components. It will not necessarily be a matter of flicking on a switch and it automatically happens. As noted by other posters on this thread, Sam Weidemann may be the forward inclusion of first choice by selectors. Surprisingly Ben Brown may be allowed further opportunity in the VFL to get ‘cherry right’ for Blundstone Arena.

A great position for the club to be in, not merely holding the fort for the calvary to arrive, to get the season going. But now holding high ladder position with a number of hard working and talented players strongly desiring  to be part of it.

Brown and Petty came in and did OK, not great. Weid and May (who have both been in the side for long stretches in the past) will be significantly better, even before you consider their improved talent/physical traits when compared to Brown/Petty.

Whichever tall comes in will need to work wonders with Jacko and T Mac in regards to leading patterns, opening space and spreading the Tiges defence.

If we fail at that, I cant see us winning no matter our midfield dominance.

If our players enter forward 50 as they did for three quarters against Hawthorn and our key talls lead to bad spots, we'll be punished.

Need to plan and execute. Can't rely on our sheer talent to get us over the line against this mob.

This is the biggest issue our team faces if we are to improve and contend. We've improved significantly in the areas where we don't have the ball - the pressure from Spargo, ANB & Kozzie is forcing front half turnovers and even TMac & Fritsch have ramped up their tackling & pressure games.

Where the improvement is less apparent is when we have the ball. Our forward line is often stagnant or we have players leading to the one spot. That really limits the options for the ball carrier coming forward. Supporters often criticise mids for "the long bomb" to the goal square but when your forwards don't offer an alternative................... you can "lower your eyes" all you like but if there's nothing coming at you, all you can do is go long.

There are plenty of examples where we've hit up forwards on the lead this season but the movement needs to be constant. When sides flood back like GWS did and it looks like there's no space, forwards still have to lead. It's as much about drawing defenders, disrupting their zone & creating space for your fellow forwards as it is about getting hit lace out & having a shot at goal. Forwards working for each other. Selfless.

Spot on. Too many don't watch the game closely enough. Tomlinson is very very solid. Petty was shaky until midway through the third.

Shaky? - Scary was what we were thinking and , albeit never having seen him before, wonderered what the hype was that he got a game.

He did improve and showed courage in later plays so hopefully its an experienec thing only.

It’s unbelievable that Fritsch and May could return this week. But if only one, I hope it’s May. He’s more important to our success. Having said that, our goal kicking is our weakness. I don’t know who should be in the forward line this weekend. I just hope the decisions prove to be successful.

Are we not #1 in the comp for marks inside forward 50?

TMac is not a natural forward. The addition of BB and the Weid and their forward nouse will back a big difference here

It would be difficult to drop a number of blokes who played their role, but if we want to get serious, the sooner we get our preferred line up in, the better. We want to be winning games in September and this 5-0 start has given us a great chance to feature.

In: Weid, Brown, May, Fritsch

Out: T-Mac, M.Brown, Petty, Melksham

Each of those ins is better than the out, so it makes sense.

On Gus & Gawny podcast, Ben Gibson was seeming quite skeptical about May & Fritsch being right.

Tmac won't be dropped as long as his form  is Up to scratch.

If Fritsch is right (doubtful) I have a feeling he might come in for Melksham. Fox Footy's 'selection whispers' is saying his spot is under some heat.

Weid for Brown a lock, May for Petty all but locked in, IMO.

There is no doubt that of these two, Fritsch is the better player, with more recent runs on the board who will give the team a lot more output.

However I can't see them dropping Melksham after kicking 3 goals last week, and he probably deserves a run of games before we put a line through him.

Unless Fritsch is 100% fit, there is no point risking him when we have so many other options.

I’m going BBB over Weideman at this stage.

I do see room for them both at some stage.

If they are both on a par fitness wise, I'd go for BBrown over the Weed. Great news from May - hopefully; Fritta expected news so good luck with the Friday medical assessment - you're too useful to be left out.

I have been convincing myself that after 7 goals Wied is a must in.

Listening to Goody I get the feeling reading bw the lines that it might be Bbb called up.

Just a feeling but Im now wondering which would be the best.

I guess Bbb is a big footy name as one of the best proven forwards in the last five years so theres that.

Bringing him in is like adding our own Lynch so now Im thinking this is what will happen.

One of them is a must and I cant wait to see how it pans out.

I am not saying he's been bad but I want Weid and Brown in the side more than T-Mac, particularly for the latter half of the year.

I don't believe T-Mac will be in the side once BBB, Weid and Fritsch are all playing so let's rip the bandaid off and start building some cohesion for a tilt at finals

If Weid comes in I hope he plays a blinder, but why are people assuming he'll be better than TMac is playing at the moment.

He may not be better first up but he will be in the long run. Unfortunately, someone has to go out and the wing is fairly sorted for now, so where else does T-Mac go?

The performance ceiling is higher with the Weid/BBB combo than T-Mac/BBB or T-Mac/M.Brown

I just wouldn't muck around with something as potentially long lasting as the eye and surrounding areas of the face. Especially as we have options, and its only May.

Better than TMac/BBB. Not so sure about that.

"Only" May?   He's our best defender and a star of the competition.  Of course, he would need the medical all clear, but you wouldn't leave out one of your premier players if he was fit and available.  Definite "in" for mine, replacing Petty.

sounds like a clean

May, Weid IN

Petty, MBrown OUT this week

predict tmac for a quiet game next week and then he and either melk dropped or jones managed OUT for BBrown and Fritsch for the roos game

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
