Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't think Melksham would come out, but if Fritsch pulls up then you never know I guess?

If he keeps playing the way he is, he will absolutely be part of our future. He had a great game on the weekend and I’d be totally shocked and disappointed if he’s dropped this weekend.

I’m incredibly proud of Tommy and the way he’s got his body right and fought back from a tough year or two, and going up for trade. He deserves some success. Bloody impressive  turnaround so far!

I agree he will not be dropped. At his best he is in our best half dozen players. In fact, l think there is room in our best team for MacDonald, Weid, B Brown, Fritsch, Jackson, Gawn, especially if they play MacDonald on the wing, which apparently he has been training for. He is also the best elite middle distance runner at the club.

Maybe we should debut Majak Daw as well? ?

Whichever tall comes in will need to work wonders with Jacko and T Mac in regards to leading patterns, opening space and spreading the Tiges defence.

If we fail at that, I cant see us winning no matter our midfield dominance.

If our players enter forward 50 as they did for three quarters against Hawthorn and our key talls lead to bad spots, we'll be punished.

Need to plan and execute. Can't rely on our sheer talent to get us over the line against this mob.

Agreed JG, the notion of bringing in both Brown and Weidemann together and they immediately fit in harmoniously, with other forwards and mid-fielders is questionable. It will take time to develop synergy between, what is currently working well and adding new components. It will not necessarily be a matter of flicking on a switch and it automatically happens. As noted by other posters on this thread, Sam Weidemann may be the forward inclusion of first choice by selectors. Surprisingly Ben Brown may be allowed further opportunity in the VFL to get ‘cherry right’ for Blundstone Arena.

A great position for the club to be in, not merely holding the fort for the calvary to arrive, to get the season going. But now holding high ladder position with a number of hard working and talented players strongly desiring  to be part of it.

Changes I'm hoping for

IN: Weideman, Fritsch, May

Out: M.Brown, Melksham, Petty

Jordan the sub

Jones should be coming out for Sparrow but alas we will celebrate him regardless if it costs us. I think once Harmes is fit his spot will definitely be up for grabs as it should be if he performs like he did last week.

From the AFL article: https://www.afl.com.au/news/598967

... it will be May and Weideman in.

Fritsch not right.

No Brown for the fact that we cannot handle altering our setup so radically in one game.

A really mature decision.

I guess M Brown and Petty out.

Agree that introducing both would radically upset our working structure

Witout suggesting complacency, the following week vs North we could experiment / tweak a bit and debut BBB against they who did not want him.

I remember Allen Jakovich kicking 13 or 14 in the reserves one day. I’m not sure if he was promoted the next week, the powers at the club kept him waiting and waiting before he debuted in the seniors.

He debuted in round 1 as I recall and we got flogged, then he was sent back to the VFL for  a couple of months.. then came back in midseason and the rest is history.

P2J.  I remember AJ#13 debuting for us against WCE after much fanfare. As I recall we scored 2.2 or thereabouts for the day, and as you say he spent a long stint in the 2s.

melksham's field passing was superb from my spot on the afl member's wing - that scythe of a pass from just on the d50 arc to petracca just on the f50 arc before trac bombed to jackson / plugger mac for free and play-on goal was a thing of beauty

can't see him being dropped

He also kicked a left foot pass that hit Gawn on the chest which he duly converted from 50m

I cannot believe the posts here discussing dropping Tomlinson.

The defence is now solid and it includes him, plus he has versatility to play wing if needed.

As he said post match last Sunday - The hawks kicked 27 points in the first 1/4 , then 27 points for the rmeining 3 1/4's.

Tomlinson is a key to those sorts of results and we now have a premiership-standard back 6 or 7.

Spot on. Too many don't watch the game closely enough. Tomlinson is very very solid. Petty was shaky until midway through the third. It's a no brainer that he comes out for May. I rate Petty, but Tomlinson locks down and enables May and Lever to play intercept.

Sure, converting our opportunities will be paramount, but when we played Richmond through 2017 and 2018, we'd completely dominate the territory battle for large chunks of the quarters and then get a bit defensively leaky at stages, as we'd press too high with little cover and had no ability to change gears or get it on the outside and create scores from a crowded forwardline.

We're a very different defensive proposition this year. Providing May plays, I think we can really limit Richmond scores from inside 50s. This combined with our likely midfield dominance puts us in a very good place.

I think it's all about our goal kicking at that end of the ground, rather than our forward entries. Get the job done like we haven't in the first 5 weeks and I think we can strangle them. Goal kick like we have in the first 5 weeks and I think it'll be tough to win.

Rest Jordan’s body in the 2’s for a few weeks or keep as the sub.

Move T.Mac to the wing.

You can't bring out that much tackling pressure and not replace it. Pressure in the forward half and midfield is what's making our game work.

Would like to see Fritta in but I think we rest him.

For those who didn't watch Weed in the VFL - you should be pretty excited.

Looks like he's worked on his ground ball and pressure.

His kicking action is still beautiful and hands looked strong.

I'm hopeful he can get back to his best and be a good contributor on the scoreboard. I'm doubtful he will ever be the type that kicks 5+. Just want to see him compete, do the 1%ers and kick 2+ a game.

I don't think I'm asking too much of him

Hearing that only one of Weid or Brown plays I think Sam has to be the one to come in for a few reasons:

Firstly he was (according to Burgess the week before) a week ahead in terms of rehab to Brown. This means fitness and mobility wise he won’t be missing something coming into such an important match.

Secondly he kicked 7 goals in the reserves. Now the opposition wasn’t great but how many times has he done that before? Get him in while his confidence is sky high.

Thirdly is debuting our big signing in a blockbuster really the way we want to do things? I have memories of Jack Watts and I can picture Brown being lined up for a big tackle early on. Let him have another week to build match and general fitness then let him loose against his old team.

May coming back is huge if true, I think he would’ve been smashing down Goodwin’s door demanding he play!

2 changes then:

May for Petty, M Brown for Weid (Please let this be a big night for Sam!)

Well, at least we know now that only one of Sam Weideman or Ben Brown are a possibility to get the nod from the selectors this week. If both have now ticked all the boxes in their rehab I'd like to see them take a punt on the latter as I feel Sam is just too unreliable in his kicking for goal, something we don't need to add to right now.

He probably has one of the most natural looking set shots in the team.

His action is almost perfect.

Hi MF-C. I don't disagree with your assessment. However, he misses far too many easy set shots. One in particular comes to mind when I was in Darwin to see him miss a sitter from 20 metres out directly in front in perfect conditions to cost us the game. He'll play a blinder then go missing for weeks on end. If I had to choose one of them to kick a crucial goal after the siren it would be Ben Brown every time.

You gotta feel for Mitch Brown. Wasn't half bad and definitely not the worst on the ground. Stiff kicking a couple and getting dropped, but he knows what's on the line.

I agree, but that’s his role and he’d know that.

Good teams have systems where a player can step in and play a role when needed without being first-choice player.

That’s it and he’ll be hungry for more chances, obviously I don’t want this to happen but if a player goes down coming up to a critical game (dare I say final) he’ll be prepared for the call up to fill in.

That was an awful, gutting miss. Redemption comes from opportunity, maybe this week?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
