Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I like the guy, but I hope all the people automatically putting Weid in for his one day out in the vfl s ok for a 11 disposal, 3 mark, 2.1 goal performance if he gets selected. Thats basically been his output bar a handful of games in his 40 odd game career and there's no reason to expect more. So please no slagging him off for dropped marks or being ineffective when the ball hits the deck!!!

I think ANB is on the cusp of becoming a damaging player for us

If Spargo hadn't improved some this year then this wouldn't even be a topic of conversation. That said, ANB still leads in Contested Possessions, Meters Gained, I50s, Pressure Acts, Takles.

For me, he seems to push further up the ground and make more contests than Spargo or Melksham, and has better endurance to do more of it.

Interestingly Goody referred to the 'leaders' driving the selfless culture at the club - he named most of the usual suspects such as Gawn, Viney, May, Lever (I think) and then added Neal-Bullen.  It is quite an inexperienced forward line but if Goody is naming him as the first forward that's driving the culture change then he's not likely to be dropped on current form.  Beyond this week, Jones position must be in jeopardy based on output.

I think Fritsch & Melk are vying for the same position & Fritsch wins that one...

Melk doesn't do enough these days to give the team coverage that Jordon & ANB do.

M Brown might be the unlucky one but I can see us going in unchanged.

Brown was very ordinary for most of the match. Won't be unlucky to be dropped. We need more.

Move tmac to a wing, brayshaw to take Jordons midfield spot.

Ins: May, BBB & Weid

Outs: MBrown, Jordon & Petty

Fritta to return next week for either Jones or Melksham

As I mentioned above, I don't think ANB will be dropped this week as we already have a few inexperienced players and we, will be bringing in non-match fit players and/or recently injured/recovered players.

Other than the Saints game I'm not rating ANB's defensive work this year anything better than average.  One good game out of 5 isn't enough to keep his spot.  If he doesn't lift his game this week then he may not play in one or more of the next three games vs North, Sydney, Carlton.  They are games when we can experiment a little with fringe/unforced selections.

Bedford had an outstanding game without the ball yesterday.  Keep that up and he would be a worthy replacement for ANB.  Harmes will be available in a few weeks and while he may not be a direct replacement for ANB he could pressure on spots that force ANB out.

ANB is a very important player in our team in terms of both the forward pressure role but as importantly the distance he covers and his defensive and offensive spread.

He is incredibly fit and works super hard all game. His run and work rate is critical to our game plan working.

With his work rate he is almost always redlining.

And no one out of the team comes close to being able to matching that work rate.

AnB is a best 22 lock.

By a long way. Last year his comparative advantage in terms of fitness was offset by the short quarters. Nonetheless he was still important.

With longer quarters, more games at the g, fewer rotations and a taxing game plan he us even more important.

Not saying ANB doesn't have attributes nor that he should be dropped this week .- just that his position imv is most in jeopardy at some stage.    I've based that view on:

  • In most games this year he has been in the bottom 1/3rd
  • he ranks 4th in i50 tackles behind TMac and Pickett (equal first in the league for 2021) and Spargo
  • there are others in the VFL who will soon push for selection (Bedford, Chandler, Bowey, Laurie) and when they do ANB is the small fwd most at risk.
  • Goodwin mentioned him on 360 last night as a leader supporting Max, which he has been for a year or two.  But being a leader hasn't protected him from being dropped in the past nor should it.
  • he isn't in my best 22 for finals and soon we need to start playing the team that will be there at the pointy end of the season.

Anyway, raising ANB was a thought/option for selection changes in the near future.  I'm now repeating myself so will refrain from any further comment on him.

On this point LH, he might be 4th at the club, but he's equal 12th across the whole league, it's amazing that one club can have so many guys at the top end of fwd 50 tackles (Jordon also has the same amount as ANB, and Viney is only 1 less).

He had a shocker of a first quarter against the Hawks but was good after that, however, the whole team didn't play well in the first quarter, and I think this due to the way Hawthorn played. As soon as they got the ball in the defensive 50, they bombed it as long as they could out of there, and away from Maxy, which is unlike the way other teams have been trying to play (more precise). This seemed to disrupt our usual pressure game, at least for a while, but was clearly unsustainable all game. Once the game returned to normal, so did ANB and the other small pressure forwards.

i have been a critic of Melksham in the past but he cant be dropped after his game against Hawthorn. In addition to his goals,  he set up Jones with a fantastic kick - a goal he should have kicked and was pivotal in several others. ANB is crucial to the improved forward pressure so i doubt he will be going anywhere.

Side looks good on paper, but I think leg speed will be a problem against tigers. And they are the no 1. Team in the league when the ball hits the deck so going to tall could cost us especially in a night game.

I'd expect Weid to throw his weight around when the ball hits the deck, his a good tackle for his size

The obvious ones are May for Petty and Weid for M.Brown

- We really lacked decent marking options especially in the first half and although people lack confidence in Weid I think he's the best current marking option. Brown to have another week at Casey to prove himself.

- I think Melksham for Bayley if he's fit makes sense. Melksham apart from some opportunist goals has looked just OK and I don't believe he play the role he excelled at a few years back as our inside 50 kicking specialist. Our midfield is not doing a better job of this and I don't think he works well as a third tall.

- I love the guy and understand the occasion etc. but Jones based on last week is such an obvious drop. Very average game and old legs could do with a rest. Guys like Sparrow and Jetta absolutely deserve his spot in the side. I can see someone like Jordan making way for Fritta and probably being the sub but he was solid on the weekend as he has been all year playing a number of roles across the ground.

I don't think we bring in BBB this week.

Love him and will become a fan favourite but I don't think we debut him against the Tigers.

Can't believe some of you are thinking Milkman will be dropped too. There is no chance of that happening.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
