Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Well in Langers great interview, Clarry and Trac can't be tagged they made O'connor crap the bed on Sunday.

yep, I loved when Dermie said after the game - When O'Conner went to Petracca, he didnt even realise he was being tagged!  Is that a mozzie on me??

The combination of the surfer bros Hunt and Langdon is a generational joy to watch.  Hunts dare and speed puts your heart in your throat, and Langdon's endeavour is an example to the entire team on effort.  And now he is more settled in the team culture you can see that starting to disseminate across the team

I too am loving the apparent synergy between Langdon and Hunt. I’m of the opinion that Langdon, in no small part, is responsible for Hunt’s turnaround in form.  Maybe an early call, but I haven’t seen a pairing like that since Cameron Bruce and Brad Green helped take us to a GF in 2000.

So they now need to Tag Him, Oliver and Petracca Impossible task for any opposition coach

This is a good point.  The problem for oppo teams is that a traditional tagger can't run with Langdon, and so would need a couple of them to lock him down in bursts.

Not achievable.

This reflects Dermies comment the prvious game against GWS about Oliver's tag.

Dermie sees tags as a compliment and just another player to beat, which is the mindset he suggested Oliver could take on. He said Olivers eilite enough to just play through the problem.  Seems for certain Petracca is.

Olivers performamnce on Satuarday, still with Cats hanging off him at clearances suggest he might have takne this approach.

There it is. Proof of the importance of Choco in our form turnaround. 30 minutes a day on improving kicking compared to zero previously. A master stroke getting him to the Club.

The only justification I can think of for not having a focus on kicking previously might be that there were so many other even worse deficiencies to concentrate on. Fitness levels is one that comes to mind.

Halfway through the last quarter Mitch Duncan receives the ball in open space & starts running it towards Geelong's forward line. Langdon gives him 25 metres start and is no hope of catching him. But he puts on the jets & bloody near gets him just as Duncan takes his kick.

I thought that summed Langdon up. Unconditional effort given no matter what.

I’d love to know if there is a team based % of game time played type stat.

Someone mentioned on here recently that there is a huge benefit by having guys like Langers, Gawn etc playing 90 - 100% of game time as it allows the other more explosive players more rest, I think it would be great to see if there is any correlation in that thought.

Yep. Go to afl.com.au into the MFC matches and the player stats. It's there for every player for every game. ToG%.   Makes for very interesting reading. I was checking it out last year and noticed how Viney's time was down compared to other midfielders. Bit the same this year. I suspect he's being managed for the rest of his career. His stat's are amazing when you see that he plays less game time than the other top midfielders. It also probably tells a bit of a story on how they are managing players loads week to week. For instance Lingers game time was down after the 100% Saints game. There's sure to be a lot of science around that stat.

i just feel so comfortable whenever he is in the play. hardly anyone can lay a glove on him. never loses his footing.

You've highlighted something that pretty much applied across the board against the Cats, our players were much better at keeping their feet.

Agreed, it's wonderful and makes a great change. However, it has been recognised by DL contributors for years, and years, and years as a necessary matter for improvement and accuracy. Why it was not attended to in the recent and longer-term past is beyond belief (correct me if I am wrong, but it is FOOTball, is it not?).

Both Chocko and Yze must be responsible and I include Yze in this as he was a far better kick himself than Chocko ever was.

Yet another highlighted area of supporter concern, that had been largely ignored, is passing. Wonder what is next? Exciting times are ahead...

That is what made Tulip and Stan so effective - they owned the territory to which they were assigned  - and no other player was welcome. Both could run to where they wanted to play the ball - and did so impreccably.

I also see this in our 'yet to be implemented new forward line' with BB and Fritta, Weid and MB, and including the larger untaggable Majak Daw (if used up front correctly). An absolute nightmare for any opposition teams to tag or 'cover', particularly as this brigade and improving and fresh smalls is also creating havoc on the good side of the midfield. Canardly wait!

Never forget the Bruce/Green connection ... a prime example of the 'best' combo for several years.

I was sitting ground level, southern wing on Sunday, so had a close-up experience of Ed Langdon’s game. What struck me, other than the sheer mileage and fluidity of his running, was his absolute calm command. Even in the tighter keepings-off type stuff that happens near the boundary, he’s never panicked, always seems to know how he’s going to create best effect with his disposal and positioning, and executes brilliantly. He’s right there with Alves, Tingay and of course Flower as a pure winger, a joy to watch, and the kind of player who makes our game.

Alves, Robbie and Stingar were elite, well above what we see now. I do feel that Langdon is getting there rather quickly now, just a little more success to come.

I thought Oliver dealt with the tag beautifully on Sunday . He took O’Connor well away from the circle, then pushed off him to the contest instead of being clogged in at the tap, so not being held in at the contest. And as someone else has noted, hit the contest at speed. Do I detect a growth in football IQ in the lad?

He was a good player for Freo. His 2019 was very good in fact. He was about explode towards the end of that season.

I thought his 2020 was a step backwards for him but the whole 2020 year was a nightmare for many players.

His improved kicking and the consistent impact on games this year  has taken him to the level he looked like he was close too at the dockers.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
