Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes, and same for Oliver.

I bet they were both Scott. That *&%$#&*@

The most intriguing for me was that neither coach rated Viney's game worthy of a vote.  Based on the coaches presser I think Scott gave Gawn 4 and Goody would've given the 4 to Clarry and 3 to Gawn.  Which probably means the 3 to Langdon came from Scott.

A Melbourne side with 4 quarter intensity.

A Melbourne side who stay with the plan.

A Melbourne side who stick  their tackles.

A Melbourne side who run as hard back as forward,

A Melbourne side who adjust roles on the run when things don’t go their way.

Just need to start ticking the Melbourne side who take their chances and we will seriously start putting sides away and I will start to believe we are a serious shake.

The injuries and soreness in the kids will come at some point but we have some quality depth old and young to replace them with.  Always great to put the wins away early certainly better than chasing them late.

Apparently Umpires in our game took an average of five seconds extra time to make individual judgements about free or holding ball in regard to Geelong players than ours. Don't ask me how i know........HQ?.

This is the best Melbourne team since early 90s when Schwarta and Lyon were doing there thing. The day we wiped Blues in a final was the pinnacle. Have been watching for 50 freakin years

Potentially this  is the best chance we have for immediate and/or sustained success Since 1964.

We not only have 4/5 A graders they are playing like those elite players.

But there are another 10 at least on our list who may improve to that status or close to. Our depth looks promising and real and for once a number of "role" players of  genuine substance.

Also  isn't it great When players are played in position but can be moved fir team balance or yo change a game!

BTW we may just have our best coaching group for half a century also.

Sides this year who are looking yo succeed will need to stand up for the whole year as Tigers and Power will still be there when the whips are cracking.

If I was the opposition coach Langdon would have been a real annoyance

He kept driving the team forward all day (26 possessions) as well as standing out with the run & carry

I'm most surprised that Langdon didn't get votes from both coaches.  Not sure the umpires would have missed him though

Langdon stood out all day

As the eternal pessimist I'm in unfamiliar territory right now.
Was very impressed with what I witnessed against Geelong.
Just gotta remember the season is a marathon and not a sprint and I'm also not very confident the season will play out without the covid thing rearing it's head again when the flu season sets in.
Anything could happen but we are building very nicely thanks very much.
Can see again the players have the eye of the tiger.
They know the pieces are in place, a settled backline, a contested beast of a midfield, blistering pace down the wings and a forward line while still spluttering still has a couple handy additions to come in.
If they can keep up what they produced yesterday we'll be right in the mix to go deep.

For a start there is not Nearly as much  flu Now that people are taking care of themselves with masks sanitizers and whatever distancing is being observed.
Also I believe about 20/25 % of the population are still not living life near back to normal for fear.
The flu shots are to be taken 2 weeks after the Covid vaccine shots.

Langdon got a 3 from one coach, similar to Clarry that got a 4 from one coach

But in both cases the other coach didn't even have either of them on their list

It shows how hard it is to actually assess value of players to a team

Just watched the replay and one of the biggest highlights for me came right at the end.

You can excuse a team late in a game for going through the motions when the scoreboard says game over, but not our mob yesterday. In the final 10 seconds of the game we laid 4 tackles and almost a 5th as Geelong tried to run the ball out of their defensive 50.

Incredible work rate, talk about playing 120 minutes.

Rusty, Sean was one of our greats - focussed, tough, determined, skilled, a real team man.

True

I reckon Goodwin gave Oliver 4 with Scott giving Langdon 3

But I could be totally wrong H!

Hunt is our most improved player. Defending like I’ve never seen him defend before.

Totally agree.

I was critical of his performance last week because it was all dash for little return.

This week, he brought some dash, used the ball well but more importantly - as you say - he defended so well.

If he can do that consistently, we've got a real weapon on our hands.

Absolutely 56.  He was as valuable as Jimmy in terms of the role he played and impact on matches IMHO.  Talk about white line fever.

Always was a weapon, young Hunt. All he needed was his barrel pull-through and a good oiling.

I gave a laugh a emoji, but I'll be honest, I know very little about guns.

Is there a a double entendre in there? Either way, sounds enticing.

Ex-Army man; all maintenance is referred to as a 'cleaning of the barrel' and a good oiling. For Hunt, he'd been well-maintained.

I think you blokes will appreciate this. It’s a write up in the Kerry sports hub commemorating the life and times of Sean Wight about a year or so ago. He was an accomplished gaelic footballer and is still a revered figure for his local club Listowel Emmetts (incidentally the same club Tadgh Kennelly hails from)

My teplay highlight came at end of second quarter after trac had goaled on the siren. Kossie moved to join in the dees huddle celebration and Selwood in sniper fashion pushed him in the chest. He was wide open and understanably not expecting contact.

Clayton Oliver instantly retaliated doing the same back to selwood. As if to say   Don't touch kossie.

Well done clarry. Failed tagger O'connor joined in weakly as well. Maybe saw a chance to finally get close to Oliver

Great team win! What a start! If you’d have told me in January that we’d be 4-0 with no Brown, Weideman, Hibberd and Viney for a game I would’ve thought you were mad!

Incredible stuff!

Also I was hearing a bit of ‘Melbourne haven’t beaten anyone yet’ on the radio this morning and I’m ok with that, keep the lid on. But there’s an interesting stat everyone seems to be missing, everyone Melbourne has beaten has beaten everyone the bulldogs have beaten.

Geelong beat Brisbane, Saints beat WC, GWS beat Collingwood, admittedly Freo haven’t played North yet, but I think we can all agree they WILL beat them.
So the next time a radio host tells you how incredible the dogs are but Melbourne ‘haven’t beaten anyone yet’ maybe cheekily point this out? While keeping the lid on of course...

GO DEES!!!

The teams we've played have a 7-5 record in their other non-Melbourne games. Same with Sydney.

The teams the Dogs have beaten have a 4-9 record.

Feel like Viney deserves more credit for this game. Shout out to @DeeSpencer and @The Swimming Dee for also having him BOG.

It wasn’t just the fact he had more contested possessions and tackles than any other player on the ground. It was the moments they happened. Those knife edge moments where the Cats could have swung momentum. More often than not it felt like Viney was the one having none of it.

Impossible not to have admiration for the bloke. To be playing with the enormous heart he does when many other professional sportsmen would have sooked it up. He’s a gem. Thank god he plays for us.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
