Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

dunno if it's the same these days, but players are limited by what vlad used to dub 'the phys ed-ers' from doing repeat kicking drills so that they're not 'over-working' their legs

ross the boss' suggestion that players do 'away from training' goalkicking practice would, i suspect, be frowned on by the fitness staff...which is patently ridiculous

The game and preparation has come a long way over the years, but there's still areas for improvement.

Again, you will not be learning technique to be repeated under the roof at Marvel or at the swirly contained G.

What a ridiculous back and forth this is.

Isn't it remarkable how all those who have historically had good techniques can kick well in any conditions.

Over and out.

Great training report. Now i am thinking we should not change a winning team at this stage.  We have had lick with injuries. That will not last forever. Players banging down the door will just have to keeping banging it down. Their turn will come.

Wins and a winning culture has just been so hard for us to get consistency in. Reward those getting it right.

I've said this before, but how can players practise goal kicking at a windy site like Casey?  When they miss (or score) they won't know if it was their technique or the wind that was the cause.

You clearly don't play golf Sue!

When you play golf in the wind its very easy to know what the wind does to a ball's flight.

You know when you hit a solid straight shot or if you have hit the ball with a draw (or slice) . The sideways movements are exacerbated but a straight shot is much less affected generally.

I doubt it is any different for kicking a football.

My straight shots are affected whether there is wind or not.

A stationary spherical golf ball being hit by a plane surface is a lot simpler than a spinning oval football being hit with an unevenly structured foot dropping from a variable height.    (I used to play golf.)

I obviously live on a different planet to some here because it seems blindingly obvious to me that if you are trying to perfect a technique then you want to do it with as few external variables as possible.  And later learn how ot adjust for those variables.

Let's drop the wind issue and instead consider learning to kick straight with someone standing on the mark trying to put you off by saying "your mother is a $%$!$&" or throwing mud at you.   If you miskick, how do you know whether it was caused by your poor technique or your distress at hearing your mother so described or your dodging getting mud in the eye?  So perfect your kicking without the abuse/mud.  Once you've got the right technique by all means then learn how to handle the abuse/mud (or the wind).

The thing about Gawn's kicking is that the result is consistent. Therefore, he doesn't need to change his technique. All he has to do is aim further to the right each time.

just snap all shots. simple.

This is half right. They should practice goal kicking in the wind. They should also practice it in the calm.

The learning of the technique and the refining of the skill should be done in ideal conditions. Not when under fire.

They can learn more advanced skills (like kicking in the wind) when they've got the basics down reliably.

If you teach a man to swim by throwing him into the deep end of a pool, he may learn to freestyle but more likely he'll learn to dog paddle, and from then on, that's his default swimming style when under pressure.

Max should learn to kick to the left and to the right so he knows what the difference feels like. Once he knows that, kicking it straight is a lot easier than when you're guessing.

As a junior playing pennant golf I spent hours practicing in all weather. It is just sensible to optimise for all weather.

I agree. But no point in practising difficult shots before you get the fundamentals right.

From my perspective each has a "Bag of Tricks" Bowey is hard at it and QUICK and at some piont might oust Spargo, however Spargo is doing all he should so put that away for the time being. Laurie has polish and great football smarts and is sure to feature at some stage. Rosman to me will be "The Enigma" can take strong grabs, kicks freak goals and is elusive. I would think the club would be very happy with these three. Cant wait to see them in Praccy game Vs Willi on Sat

Props for this clubs recruiting.

While on the fundamentals; how long has it been a requirement to spin the ball in your hands as you walk up to take a set shot? Every time I see this it just screams unsettled mind to me. If you have a standard hold for the ball and a standard drop I don't know how you can get it right every time if you are constantly twirling the ball as you walk in.

Wasn't me Watts.  I observed many bands back in the day from the bleaches, some good, some great, some bog ordinary and usually i was not fully aware of my surrounds but that's about it.

It wasn’t about difficult shots. It was drilling fundamentals in all conditions. Rain, wind, sun. Difficult shots also core practice.

Yes, it wasn't about difficult shots.  It was about developing your set shot kicking technique.

My point is that you first should develop your set shot kicking in perfect conditions so you know when what you are doing is wrong and can't mentally blame the wind etc or be uncertain as to the cause of your miss.  Then practice in all conditions to learn how to deal with wind, rain etc.  I'll try not to post on this again.....

I'm with you Sue.  Need to master the basics first before you're able to fine tune and finess, especially under various windy conditions as well as doing so shooting from different angles and / or directly in front.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders.
