Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 2021 All-Australian Team

Langdon should be but will be a Treloar/Mcrae type on the wing because the AA selectors have no balls to pick people based on positions.

Five Demons in this team... but how can you write an article on the current AA team and not mention Lever once?

Clayton Oliver currently second in the Age footballer of the year!

FWIW If we continue with our stellar year we should have these probables Oliver, Gawn, Trac, May, Salem and Langdon

Due to our 6-0 start, most mock teams with be biased toward us and the Bulldogs.
With that said, the following Demons would be safely in the squad:

May (though last years omission gave me pause for thought)
Lever
Salem
Langdon
Oliver
Petracca
Gawn

From that list, Petracca and Gawn's high profiles, coupled with stellar form, would put them safely in the team.
They're both now at a standard and reputation that they're pencilled in before the season even starts.

The next rung would be OliverLever and May.  All three have high profiles, have been promoted by the media and, in the case of Oliver and Lever, have made the squad/team before.

You're then left with Salem and Langdon, who are currently playing at AA standard, but don't have the media attention at this stage or a run of consecutive years where they are in All Australian contention.

IMO in the squad of 40 we would currently have

Lever, Oliver, Trac, Langdon, Gawn, May, Salem, Pickett

with

May, Lever, Salem, Langdon, Trac and Gawn all in, and Oliver also would be close

After 17 rounds things have changed a bit from when this thread was created.

May, Lever, Gawn, Trac, Oliver and Salem would be near certainties for the 22 you'd think. Most of them could sit the rest of the season out and still make the squad.

Langdon, Fritsch and Kozi have fallen away a bit but have still had fantastic individual seasons.

Steven May should also get a retrospective jersey for 2020. It's criminal that he's never been AA or played a final in ten years. Both about to change.

Gawn should be Captain.  He's an outstanding leader.  His post game interview on Fox Footy was a gem. The way he spoke about Kozzy Pickett - the players in that team must love running out with big Maxy every week.  And what he does on the field week in week out is extraordinary. Lever, Oliver, Petracca and May are all walk ups.  Salem had a few off weeks post injury but he's back now.  Probably he makes it too.  That'll be it I'd say.  6 is a pretty good result.

May would be stiff to miss but there are some really good full backs this year

I agree there are some good full backs out there, but it's no coincedence we're the stingiest defence in the league. That's got to see both May and Lever in key defence roles IMHO.

Oliver, Trac, Gawn a lock. Salem could be unlucky as they love to fill the half backline with midfielders.

Lever and May statistically have to be in that backline. If May doesn't make the AA team this year, you may as well burn the joint down.

Based on the first 17 rounds, Petracca, Oliver and Salem have to be locks. You'd expect at least one of May and Lever to be there as well. While Gawn probably hasn't been as spectacular as he was early in the season, he's still been very good. If he doesn't get his fifth All-Australian selection this year, I'll be pretty surprised.

Tmac and Langdon should be considered outside chances.

i honestly don't think Trac makes it this season, i think it is he OR oliver not both and i think oliver has had the superior year. with midfielders if you're the best in your side you attract so much of the footy and stand out more easily.

i think its hard to go past Bont, Oliver, Lyons, Walsh (W), Wines, Touk, Macrae (W), Parish without throwing him to a cheeky flank, but imo probably hasn't starred as much as some people seem to think. he'd be more in the guthrie, mccluggage, steele, discussion which is more your 40 squad but miss the cut.

Gawn, Lever, May, Oliver for mine

Squad wise, I'd expect to see Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, May, Lever and Salem. Unless Fritsch, TMac, Pickett or Langdon fly home over the final six games I don't think they'll make the squad.

As to the 22, if the season ended now I'd have Gawn, May, Lever and Salem in it, and then probably one of Petracca and Oliver - whilst both are deserving, there are a stack of midfielders in AA form this year and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Oliver misses out (given the media love Trac).

I think they will rob each other’s of chances, although Adelaide once had 8 in the squad, and Sydney had the most in the team with 5 in 2016 (note I only went back as far as 2011). FWIW I find Lever and May super hard to split, Lever organizes things very well, May has the most responsibility. On balance since I am not King Solomon I would go with May, as I think it is the rest of the back six that allow Lever to do what he does (which he does very well).

The comp is tight enough that the last 6 games will make a power of difference.

Squad

Gawn, Langdon Oliver May Lever Salem Petracca

Team

Gawn Oliver Petracca May

If it was position based

add Langdon Lever and Salem

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
