Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Christian Salem Re-Signs for 5 Years

With all the talk being Oliver and Petracca with their contracts, one that's not being mentioned is Salem who is currently uncontracted as we speak.

Does anyone know where he is at with this? He's imo just as important in being re-signed and his ball use and class sets us up so well across half back.

Only 25 years old and has just ticked over the 100 game mark. Plenty of good footy ahead of him and I really think he can really put his name up their as one of the best half backs in the game.

Salem's just about our most underrated player IMO. He's rarely in the votes, but almost never plays a bad game. We don't really have anyone else with his skillset on our list - behind Gawn and May, you could make a case that he is the hardest player to replace in the 22. I expect him to be signed up with minimal fuss.

wouldn't bet on it.

At 25 years of age this is his "money contract."

Hopefully he's not taken to the Yze school of contract negotiation - always have your best seasons right before a renewal!

But seriously, Salem will be a good value signing because he is the highest quality of player you can get before the runaway pricing of 'star' kicks in. Essential for any serious team.

I might be wrong, but I'm not particularly worried about losing Salem. He strikes me as a fairly low-key individual, and not the type to shop himself around on the market (pure speculation here, I've never met the bloke). He also doesn't have the star factor that commands ridiculous offers from rival clubs. Obviously, this all depends on us continuing to win games - historically, successful clubs don't lose players like Salem in their prime.

i would expect he would be in significant demand from teams that want to be successful - he's a smart footballer who makes good decisions with the ball in hand but also works hard defensively

i'm more worried about him leaving than clayton or petracca, for instance, as a successful team - like, say, richmond or sydney - could offer him a significant contract that blows us out of the water in terms of offer

Key to our ball movement off half back, breaks lines, makes the right decisions, his ball distribution is top 5 in the league simply can't lose a player of his ilk.

Get it done Dees.

Throw a little barber shop in the fine print and it’s a sealer.

I’m sure we’ll do everything in our power to keep one of our better disposers of the ball.

Unlike Trac and Clayton i haven't heard a murmur as regards him being unsettled or looking at other options.

He was on the Max and Gus podcast recently. Comes across as a reserved low key fella. I don't see him leaving. I think i read Carlton paid Saad approx $650k per year for 5 years. I reckon he's worth the same.

Probably about right but given the need to sign Petracca and Oliver not to mention Luke Jackson will we have the money.

It's going to be challenging with no increase in the salary cap for at least threee years

Trac and Oliver already both on over 700k, wouldnt have thought that they will take up THAT much more capspace than they currently are

i guess it depends on how much Salems current contract is worth. If hes been getting unders like 350-375k then it starts to get trickier but if hes already on 450-500k then i dont see it being an issue

Especially everything the club has done to support him through his medical issues (particularly his thyroid problems). Now he finally starts putting some consistent footy together you'd hope he'll do the right thing by the club.

You are wrong His last 8 games have been Band F ( and a minor Brownlow vote eligible due to his Quietly efficient way - prob why he has a blonde rinse now !) ha best for  the Club.
Impactful and gut running now a feature plus his trademark disposal skills pushing us forward relentlessly.

I expect him to be Deservedly rewarded with a new contract without all the noise and in typical Salo style, respectful and negotiated mutually beneficial to both parties.

Not in  agreement with some D/L ers that we would not miss Christian as he is One Of the best if not the best link between the defence and attacking options that now occupy our forward and on ball brigades.

Reckon as time goes  by Christian will have every opportunity to play in our Club winning a flag before Kelly of GWS Does. Hi Paul Roos.

Don't get me wrong, Salem is a gun and may well give the AA squad a shake this year. But he's by no means a marquee player, and not the sort of player that you can build a midfield around like Oliver or Petracca. I'd very much doubt he'll be receiving godfather type offers that we can't match. Certainly, rival clubs will make enquiries, but I'm not worried about re-signing him at this stage.

and my god has he timed his run perfectly, game suits his style and he's looking like the weapon he's always threatened to be. just hope this doesn't turn into a stevie motlop where u get one good season just in time for ur big pay packet like he did at geelong and another in his FA year when port snapped him up

No it isn’t. Salem has been consistent for years now and the game changing to suit him and his skills is nothing like a player that plays a good season when they are OOC.

I am not worried either but have a look at Christians figures for his consistency now.

Is a real upside for our back/ mid/ forward connect.

Flys under he radar now and we are the beneficiaries!

I've not seen anything from a FD negotiation perspective that gives me cause for concern on resigning our jets.

Girls in the prelim, blokes haven't dropped a game, quietly managing resigning our talent in an orderly fashion.

This must be what it feels like to be a Hawthorn supporter.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
