Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That’s total garbage. Oliver received several frees off the ball. What else did you want? A full judicial inquiry from the High Court?

Yes please, that would be nice and might resettle the amateurish umpire management of the AFL to ensure a level playing field. Several frees both on and off the ball were necessary, agreed; it almost makes up for the dozens of punches, pushes, behind-the-head haymakers and the occasional ground crunch with knees and full body weight on joints and legs that were endured in the name of a well-umpired footy match. The judiciary rests; it was supposed to do its job well; a higher authority needs to be put into action when we see failures such as those on Sunday.

Umpires dept need to review Max’s mark in the 2nd qtr. Max went back and was tackled, not given 50. Umpire had line of sight, absolute howler of a decision in what needs to be remembered is professional sport.

not sure why we should be given the dud umpires from the Bris/Geel game

TMac is crucial over the next 3 weeks

After that we have the luxury of considering BB and Weid

TMac will be keeping close eye on those two and their recovery, I hope he’s got the mentality of “[censored] you all, it’s my spot right now and I’m not giving it up”. He looked disappointed with his game at full time, good. I’d rather him look frustrated than see him have a Clarry-like smile.

I am hoping they just beat the hawks (so they are not on the rebound) in a super physical game.

They have to be able to celebrate. A release of the energy and share some joy.

The song is as much for the supporters as the team.

What you suggest is like drawing a "line in the sand" moment. Can be done, though you wouldn't want to do it it more than once in a season (line in sand not the song). It is really not the time for it. Devalues the effort they are giving and are winning anyway.

They are addressing the problems and would be doing home truths with each other during the normal review and after calculated reflection

They know their general problems.

Support and feedback from others when they have a clearer head and the video replays have been scrutinised is much better on the "Monday".

Inaccurate and exaggeration of things could be said in the heat of the moment directly after a game, and off the cuff comments can lead to bad blood.

Old school coaching may do what you suggest with the song but Goody is new school player management, respectful and calculated.

Too much mental footy pressure is energy sapping.

Exactly, could only be done once, for me not just in a season but once overall or obviously it would lose its effect. The concern for me is that it’s a reoccurring problem and the club has tried different things without results. Purely a suggestion to try something different. I’m hopeful that Choco Williams is addressing this issue, whilst Port only got the one flag, numerous times they won the minor premiership, they were a tough and skilful side.

Gawn is the best footballer in the league and Kossie is the most exciting player in the league. Hunt's best game ever and Viney and Brayshaw were brilliant when things weren't actually going our way. I'm excited with the way the teams going I think it is our best chance of winning the flag since 1998.

What on earth are you talking about?

They beat a potential finals rival, on the road by six goals.

A team that played with great spirit and threw everything they had at us.

A 50 point turnaround after quarter time.

To win their third game in a row.

To go 3-0.

For the first time since 2005.

You simply have to be trying to wind people up.

Because you can't seriously suggest we shouldn't sing our song after that victory.

When I read the negative comments of Bombay A/C and others seeking to find the cloud around the silver lining of a victory, I can't help but be reminded of the type of person my dear old dad would describe as the sort who could find an unopened pay packet full of cash and then complain about how much income tax had been deducted.

Did Geelong, Hawthorn or Richmond ever refuse to sign the song after any of their wins during their respective dynasties?

What you're arguing is that by singing the song they're incapable of critiquing their performance or reviewing the game. That is patently ridiculous.

There's no statement to make or signal to send by not signing the song. If anything, it will get people riled up that we have rifts between players and coaches. Wins are to be enjoyed. It's why people play football. If you can't reconcile celebrating a win with getting better, then you'll never get there.

Geelong is on record as having brutally honest conversations with each other, it was the catalyst for Gary Albett Jnr rise from being a good player to one of the greats. If we’re having/had similar type dialogue over the years and the players still aren’t getting it why not try something different.
As for your second paragraph I think you’ve missed my point.

I think (??) I recall that the umpire was very late to blow the whistle for the mark to Max, probably considering waving play-on for no-15

Essentially it was then unfair to penalise the GWS player,  who was playing to the whistle, for the umps mistake

Yeah I liked the play-by-play commentary last night. Kelli Underwood's voice is no more or less grating than Brian Taylor's or James Brayshaw's. She called the game fine. So did Leigh Montagna, by the way.

The special comments, though, were no good. Brereton is awful, just genuinely a terrible commentator. I've never been a Healy fan either.

Except for the Montagna comment about GWS having more rotations up their sleeve... had to have it pointed out to him that they were down 3 players on their bench..

I’ll have to check on replay but it happened right near me and I thought the whistle was quick.

Just re watched it, 17.38 remaining Q2

Basically there was no whistle initially, then 2 whistles, seems like the umps were confused who was in control

Actually a total valls up, as Max went 5m backwards before being tackled and the mark was then madenat that spot behind where it was

We have maximum points but for mine the lid stays on.  We still have a lot of work to do at selection and in the coaches box to become contenders this year.  I feel that we are in about the 4th to 8th bracket.

Agreed.

Are you assuming that these conversations haven't been had at various times over the journey? The whole point of footy is to sing the song after with your team mates. It doesn't come at the expense of serious self critique.

That was actually Nick Dal Santo in the boundary rider role. Montagna was calling the play, and did a serviceable job of it.

I am so happy with our 2021 game plan, our game plan has clearly adjusted, instead of just winning the contested game, (2018 was not sustainable - as I said at the time) smashing ourselves into pieces in the process, (as seen by injuries at the end of that season), our defence is now strong enough to allow us to take on some higher risk footy. We haven’t gone soft, we are still fierce but the mix between inside and outside footy is soooooo much better. If 2021 keeps up and we play finals, we should be getting tattoos of the recruiters’ names. I’d ask fellow supporters to see that getting the players into a head space where they are willing to play with creative flare in attack, with some risk of a turnover, requires a lot of trust and faith in the players. Well done to the coaches for not dropping their bundles. It is so much easier to play a more conservative game, playing not to lose rather than playing to win, but I really like playing to win, and the clangers that are there I can live with, because our defence is a thing of beauty. No other team has looked as fit as us, and just by the by, GWS injuries came in play running with us, we were fitter than they were.

Now to be clear, the lid is not off for me, we still have to play Port, Doggies, Sydney and Richmond, win two of those four and the lid is off, win three and it is in orbit, and I am booking a ticket to Australia and stuff the quarantine. I am going on record as saying when BB is back, well then #BOOMSHAKALAKA is coming, we are going to get off the leash, and we will kick the highest score of the season. I feel like watching the Dees at the moment is the same as being at the surf beach, there are a lot of sloppy waves threatening but not quite delivering, but you just know that a really big wave is about to roll through and clean everything out and everyone up.

And yes before you say it, I know there is WCE in Perth, but personally I think Gawn will do enough to quell Nicnat, and don’t rate them as an ‘win anywhere’ side.

 Some other comments on players:

Tomlinson - Today was his best game, last week was good this was better, I thought last week it was easy for him to look good when May and Lever were on fire, today everyone was under real pressure and he was consistent and calm and where he needed to be. I had him as a bust, eating my words.

Nev - I saw Greene beat him on one occasion and yes he looked slow, but then in general play he put his body on the line in the middle of three GWS players and prevented a GWS rebound where they would have been away for a sure goal. I am not putting a line through him yet.

Tmac – A bad game for him compared to the last two (my mate was spewing he had an 8 leg multi and the only thing he missed on was Tmac for a goal), but no way would I drop him on one bad game, with two goods ones in the bank. People way too quick to pull the trigger on him, he is obviously moving so much better, he is not the player from last year. He brings more than Mitch.

ANB – Best season so far, twice he tapped the ball on rather than take possession when he would have had no chance. Showing improved awareness with his frankly mind boggling running. Also noticed he is trusted more and linked play several times.

Hunt – timing has improved, back to pre-concussion game standards, He is not Bachar yet, but working into a much better standard. Really happy for him, I thought he was

Langdon – yes everyone is super happy for a reason, just awesome recruiting.

Salem – Best start to a season, he is silk, I take him for granted too often, but he is an integral part of our beautiful defence.

Trac / Oliver were human today, didn’t help the Giants, Viney was able to do what was needed instead (in a very low key but solid way). Our mids have evolved and working much better as a unit, we also am sorry to say look better without Harmes ATM.

Jackson – thanks to the poster for the GPS data, did you see this kids’ km? He is going to be so huge in so many ways, still cannot believe his ability below his knees.

JJ, Sparrow, Spargo, Rivers – all did what is required, keeping a lot of people out of the team. All showing serious commitment – well done coaches. Jones going OK deserves his spot was sorry he didn’t snag a goal, he did a lot of team things on the day.

May, is a lock for AA.

Lever does a few booboos but he also does far more right, I guess the haters have to have someone to aim slings and arrows at.

Yeah, and Binman has pointed out that Jacko as a third tall is a nightmare to match up against. With Gawn rotating in the ruck/forward/back, the side is looking very tall, but strong. What about the wing?

West Coast are very tall too, but mobile. I'm liking Langdon and Gus on the wings.

B.... mate... you’re harking back to “honesty sessions” from a playing group that has now all retired?

Also the Dees have had plenty of “honesty sessions” and “reality bus” moments over the last 15 years (Leading Teams was one of the groups we had onboard if I recall)... we’re 3-0 and still have a lot of improvement in us, would you prefer us to be 0-3 and playing like legends but just missing out?

Me too Kent. Not sure what some people expect, do they expect  that we have 18 players all equal every week? Tmac has an average game ( not his fault in my opinion) after 2 good games and the instantly want him out. He did his job.

Agree OD. T Mac has been in my votes the last two games. The Giants flooded back and made it very hard for him to get a touch.

hopefully he bounces back as we need him over the next month especially

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
