Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agreed although I actually think we settled our defensive structure about 15-20 minutes into the 1st quarter.

We left about 5 goals on the table again by my count, really need to start nailing those chances (Oliver x2, Gawn x2, Spargo) but we are performing far better from a structural standpoint than any time in recent memory. Will be very interested to see how we perform over the next 3 weeks, will be telling as far as as our aspirations this season go.

Won't it be great to see Jones notch his 300th on Anzac eve, fingers crossed he gets through the next two games unscathed.

Don't forget Petracca,s post hit.

Me too Kent. Not sure what some people expect, do they expect  that we have 18 players all equal every week? Tmac has an average game ( not his fault in my opinion) after 2 good games and the instantly want him out. He did his job.

TMac is crucial over the next 3 weeks

After that we have the luxury of considering BB and Weid

Three talls.

But with weed and brown in Jackson will play more like a medium, such is his mobility and ability when the ball hits the deck.

Total match up nightmare.

Weed doesn't get in at the moment. Brown in for TMac, Weid will only get a look in if Jackson or Fritsch have form/injury problems.

It's too early to get too excited, although the signs are encouraging.

That said, does anyone feel like a peanut for carrying on like a dope when we lost a practice match in which 6 of last year's top 10 in the B&F were missing ?

I wasn’t really concerned about that game for the reasons you say but Gawn also mentioned it in his post-match interview last night so wondering what kind of impact or adjustment they felt they needed to make.

Whilst this is true - how nice it is for a change to not look back at this 3 games at the end of the year when we are premiers, and think that we lost a match when we 'should' have won.

Ps... we still haven't beaten a team above us on the ladder....so we are still pretenders eh? ?

Exactly true and correct we haven't! !!!!!

James Jordon is very good, can't believe he's only played a handful of games.

He's that perfect blend of outside and inside mid. Wish he had a little more speed to him, but his ball movement is so clean he makes up for it.

Also not sure why Gus is getting heat here. He's playing his role and is handy on either side of his body. Let him keep working on that wing role and compound how he wants to play it

Jeepers, just paraphrasing. From memory you described him last week as "filling space". Feels akin to "contributing nothing", but anyway, semantics.

So he had our third most metres gained. He also had our sixth most defensive half pressure acts (Salem, Oliver, Rivers, Viney, Sparrow ahead). And our fourth most intercepts, including our second-highest intercept marks. He floated forward for a goal, too.

Again, nothing spectacular, but a decent performance IMO, and a sign he's building into his role.

No, I didn't, that was how someone else was describing his role. Again, misquoting there.

Again, cherry picking random stats doesn't do much for me. Metres gained means nothing if your disposal is poor. "Sixth most defensive half pressure acts"...? You're not really trying to hang your hat on that are you?

And again, all I've said is he should be performing to a higher standard than he is currently. You seem to disagree and think that metres gained at 57% kicking efficiency is perfectly acceptable.

Agree. A star. So athletic  - and as good below his knees as any big I've ever seen.

Really glad he slotted his goal too.

And loved his move to grab the ball at centre square bounces.

Important that he rucknin the last as it allowed Max to go forward.

Good move by goody

It was good to have Max up fwd. Oliver there too was a good call but he just kicked poorly.

With fwds out I hope Max gets more time there until they are back.

Langdon's run is integral to our success: it is insane how frequently he will be in a back pocket and a forward pocket in the same scoring chain for us.

Love what he has added! Sprints and repeat sprints are so impressive!

There's no room for Tmac. Brown, Weid as the key talls, Jackson as the third tall/ruck. Fritsch and the smalls to compliment.

Yeah, and Binman has pointed out that Jacko as a third tall is a nightmare to match up against. With Gawn rotating in the ruck/forward/back, the side is looking very tall, but strong. What about the wing?

tmac goes out firstly imo as soon as this week for majak. every other side has key forwards dominating ours cant even lay a hand on it. and 5 tackles my [censored], he just sits on the tackle someone else made at the top of the goalsquare to get the stat not once did he actually instigate a tackle or put the chase in himself it was just fortunate the smalls were doing their jobs right under him.

probably the jones/sparrow spot that goes to jacko to fit weid and BBB in

If Weid is fit before BB reckon he'll replace TMac. If he takes his chance then what do you do when BB is fit? He has to play you'd reckon. Jackson's rotation with MAx is too important system wise so he can't be dropped. It might have to be Fritsch who makes way?

All dependent on form. 2 spots between Weid, TMac and Fritsch.

Nah. I've been critical of TMac last season but no way he makes way for Majak.

He has runs on the board from the first 2 rounds. He didn't play well yesterday but he was crowded out of it. Let's see how he goes against the Cats. Another poor showing and the Weid is waiting in the wings or BB if fit in time.

I'd say I agree and that he knows nothing about football!

But in all honesty he wanted to fake an injury to Fritsch because he thought he was doing so bad. Aged very well that one.

Mate you can't get upset at my use of stats and then "hang your hat" on kicking efficiency, which isn't a precise stat.

By the way, according to the AFL website his kicking efficiency was 64.7%. That was better than Daniels, Hopper, Ward, Taranto, Toby Greene and Haynes, as well as Spargo, ANB, Hunt, Petracca, Viney, Oliver and Jones. In other words, he was above plenty of mids on both sides on the night. Efficiency was generally down yesterday I suspect in part because of how GWS chose to play, sinking players back into defence and clogging up our forward half.

He gained us territory whilst doing his part in the defensive half. I don't think those stats are irrelevant, certainly no more so than the KE stat.

And if we're going to start talking misquoting (which I clarified), I don't disagree that he can perform to a higher standard. I'm not satisfied with this output on its own: as I said, I thought yesterday he was good but not great. I want him to be great. I think he can be great.

COUGH...17 Touches in the second half that #13

Anyone who didn't notice the blatant, off the ball Crap that GWS dished out to Clayton Oliver wasn't watching the game. Almost bordered on unfair. Holding , Blocking, all of the ball. Umpires department should be put on notice over it in my book. Funny thing is coming from Leon Cameron as outside a player if there ever was one just made the win even better

No, I love stats, I just don't think "sixth most defensive half pressure acts" is particularly meaningful.

The kicking efficiency I listed was his year to date.

TBH I think we're wanting the same thing, for Gus to become the player he can be, but we're just perceiving his current performance differently.

Let's move on hey. Happy with the win, hoping Gus continues to improve and starts to perform to the level he's capable of.

Cheers.

No worries.

FWIW, I rate defensive half pressure acts equally meaningful with kicking efficiency, but yes, we want the same thing from Brayshaw, so let's hope he builds on this week next week vs Geelong.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
