Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs GWS

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Very hard for fwds like Tmac when GWS literally folded every player back into defensive 50 unless they had the ball and attempted to slingshot out with pace.

If he could clunk a handful of those pack marking attempts it’s a different story for him and he wouldn’t be as grumpy.

Ita going to be interesting to see how we set up with Brown in the side and how he can help against a fwd 50 flood ie getting some frees close to goal.

But how do you know what our coach is saying to the players behind the 4 walls? Its not the people on here that are coaching/mentoring or defining what areas need to worked on.

They have to sing the song....its part of the deal.

We turned the game around when they still had a full bench also. Thats been the difference so far this year, not completely caving in when the opposition get a run on. That in itself is worth celebrating cause its been happening for 20 years.

I don’t know what’s being said, but if what I suggested was to be done it would send a powerful message. We have a colourful history of not coming switched on into games, have we really gotten to the bottom of this?

Yes we turned the game around to a point, we still for the best part continued to bomb the ball inside fifty and continued to miss easy set shots, going into half time we were behind. We didn’t really get on top until the 2nd half of the third, then at the start of the last they kicked two quick goals bringing the lead back to under ten points before we ran over the top of them because of their depleted bench.

Agree, poor game but he got to so many contests and got his hands on a lot of footy but couldn’t grab them with defenders all over him every time.

One bad game after 2 very good, he deserves another crack next week.

Also of note is the fact that in three rounds we have only looked like we weren't in control of the game for a few minutes.  The start of this match was probably the worst we've seen for that, and it lasted maybe five to ten minutes.  Aside from that, ugly or not, scoring or not, we've been in control of the games.  The side is showing a lot of maturity in being able to keep that control, possess the ball when we need to and not panic like they used to.

Good point.

I reckon it is in large part down to how effective our defensive structure is. And our all team defence. We make it very hard for team to transition past our HB and make scoring really hard.

The first few goals by GWS were the exception to prove the rule, in so far as being a reminder how few easy, coast to coast, goals opposition teams score againt us this year.

While I was a little disappointed not to win by 50 plus last night after key Giant injuries, I think we did ok.

Playing against sides that flood has always been our Achilles heal. We previously never had the small forward to survive the congestion and turn repeat entries into goals.

Next week will suit us more.

I was sitting behind the goals and what I noticed was Tmac didn't drop the ball, the opposition spoilt it.  Importantly though was how often he got to the contest despite the kick advantaging GWS, bringing it to ground - without doing this this Kicket, Spargo, ANB wouldn't have been in the play anywhere near as much.  It may not always lead to a crumbled goal but with the subsequent applied pressure a rushed kick out can lead to a repeat forward entry and an opposition backline that becomes more stressed and unstructured.

On a side note let’s hope we are better prepared for the cats keeping off style of game they played against us last season otherwise it will result in a loss again.

The way the game is played today with the longer quarters and with the way our team is set up at the moment, if the Cats try keepings out it will come a cropper. We almost beat them as it was last year. We would run over them if they tried it next week.

Many positives but really happy with Jackson. Also Hunt went to another level and much better from Gus.
T Mac looked a broken man at games end.

Tmac will bounce back mext week.

Was suberb firsf 2 games and instrumental in us winning them.

Salem was awesome last week.

This week Hunt of all players was one of our best.

Next week Im backing Jetta to get votes.

We have a seversl stars...a new one in Kozzie but Im loving how players who havent done much last year are coming into form.

Jones is getting better too.

Gawn was quiet last week but last night was an incredible effirt.

We are becoming a more even and mature team.

WTF? No idea what you're on about here.

Skill errors were a problem. Effort was not.

Exactly. At least after 20 mins or so.

I thought for the first 20 mins our defensive running was a bit off.

But the players sorted that on field, which was a super positive, and goody no doubt addressed it a q time.

And there were a couple of lazy efforts up till half time by Oliver and viney (both were factors in gws goals - Oliver's right before half time not putting pressure on a deep kick inside 50 that was crumbed fir a goal).

But none that jumped out after that.

And really all their goals after half time were complete against the run of play, and came after errors by us (eg tracc trying to bring oliver into the game at the start of the last q, rather than kick long from the centre)

Yes they were down two rotations after half time (and only two, because of the sub) but gws never threw in the towel. And they kicked super accurately and in Toby Greene have one of the top 5 players in the AFL, who was on song.

Bottom line is we powered away from them after q time. A 50 point turn around. And only very poor kicking for goal (what was up with Oliver? Tracc also getting the post from dead in front - and spargo and Max  sodas right at the end) stooped it being a 70 point turn around.

As you say effort was not an issue. At all.

Good win and very impressed by the contribution of some players who have had a question mark... Brayshaw, Hunt Fritsch

Pickett was very good to say the least. He will probably get some close attention from Geelong next week.

Would like to think that the coaching team has access to good footage of Oliver in the first half. He needs to get better at dealing with those situations or it will become a tactic against him.

A win against Geelong may see me unscrewing the lid slightly.

Interesting that because GWS kicked only 2 behinds we didn't get to use our kick out tactics which have much improved this year.

Next Sunday's weather is 17 and fine. Perfect football weather. Go Dees

That was the worst umpiring I can recall. And that's saying something

If it hasn't already been said, those were the same three umpires that did the Brisbane v Geelong game last week.

Good post.

Id also like to bang on about the umpiring again.

Was sub par. Not even with gws players dropping the knees....several 50m were not given and gws got away with several blocks.

Was one of those quirks to match our poor goal kicking...gws were luckily the exact opposite.

Gws at 2 love were on the ropes and came out all guns blazing. Toby was lit up and we had nobody to stop him.

After the first qrt we reset like last week and totally dominated.

Take away the poor goal shooting ( props to Fritta) and it WAS a 10 GOAL WIN on an interstate ground.

Go dees.

We also know Kossies efforrs last week were not him playing a starring role. He is a star.

Bloody hell it’s hard to play well when the ball is being bombed into our f50 with 2 or 3 opposition players around you and a very crowed 50.

Tmac was important tonight to our structure and has been playing well in the first couple or games this season, let’s not forget that

Also I think it was spargo who kicked a point when Tmac was only a handball over the top on his own in the goal square. Should have done the team thing rather than going for the individual glory thing. We still have things to learn as a team which will hopefully come as the season goes on.

On a side note let’s hope we are better prepared for the cats keeping off style of game they played against us last season otherwise it will result in a loss again.

why is our 50 always crowded??

not so much this year but opposition coaches know we struggle with that tactic. The trick is to limit the rebound (which we are getting better at) and it will stop

Geelong will undoubtedly crowd our forward line it but they will rebound slowly. Will be interesting tactically.

Spot on assessment. Not sure Cats are real deal though. Particularly with no Danger. Reckon we have their measure except for TMac as a big forward.

Geelong will remember how Tom McD played in the first Final v the Cats in 2018

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
