Agree with all of that, but for the moment he's often getting pushed off the ball in marking contests. He's OK marking around the ground, but not really working as a KPF, especially against decent defenders. For mine, he's a second ruck/onballer, and I'd be surprised to see him doing much down forward once Weids/Brown come in.

They are often hellbent on turning participants against participants, and are not worth a crumpet when it comes to factual resumes

like the Sporting Globe used to make so interesting.

Some if not many use gimmickry and other earthy non cogitative drivel to amuse themselves. It could not be the audience, for God's sakes....

Jackson is doing what Weideman was doing in his first season - he's basically leading himself under the ball, making it far too easy for his opponent. Weideman has fixed it, so in time, with the right coaching, Jackson will too.

I'm not sure he has AF.  Appears to have improved to some degree in terms of leading patterns/timing and taking a mark out in front when it's delivered nicely.  Not sure he has fixed this side when the ball isn't delivered on the lead and it's coming in from a fair height vs a nice lace out or similar.

Dunno about some of this assessment as it is still very early days onfield for Jackson. He does get 'defended' effectively by opposition backmen, and jolted out of the way. I do feel he is a good ruckman, however, at open-space tapping opportunities; further, with the return of Weed and Brown (x 2, perhaps) I'd think that their presence would be totally complementary to Jackson's run, carry, interceptions and focussed opposition attention that may reek havoc in the forward line in which his potency as a forward will considerably increase. His feeds in close and follow-ups are already notable and efficient. We are: potent in the backline and on the return of KPFs, we are going to be absolutely ripper in the forward line as well - and have one of the best midfields in the competition that already severely worry most teams. Exciting ...

With regards to our inaccuracy, I’d rather win a 3 goal margin by having 13 more scoring shots than winning with having 5 less shots because we had to rely on the opposition’s inaccuracy. Disappointing to miss so many but at the same time it was good signs and reflected our dominance for much of the game.

Totally agree. When the Saints started stringing a few goals together I started worrying, but we held them off multiple times and stopped the run of play. Feels pretty significant. A mature win.

It will be really interesting to see what happens when everyone is available.

I hope there's not too much experimentation with our balance. We know two talls works and other combinations have failed previously.

We have to be ready for the possibility that at least one of LJ, Weed, Brown or TMac could play all or the majority of their footy at Casey.

Trying to appease them all is recipe for disaster, IMO.

Lever only came off for a short period in the last quarter when he hurt his foot. He would have played 100% otherwise. 

 

The other one with high game time the last two weeks is Gawn at over 90%. While the new rules have reduced the number of stoppages and long kicks to packs, they benefit him in terms of favouring his endurance.

Can someone clarify why we were using tmac as the ruck in the fwd line last week over Jackson when gawn hung back, Jackson is clearly the better option in the ruck, don’t think I saw one of tmacs taps goto advantage quite the opposite

They were talking about this on SEN yesterday t_u.  The ‘Stamina Men.’ 

In round 1 four players (didn’t catch the names) across all games played 100%, in round 2 that number increased to 7 and as you stated 3 were ours. It will be interesting to see if the number keeps increasing league wide.

I reckon because once the ball hits the ground tmac is a liability, whereas Jackson is crazy good for a big fella in terms of ground ball gets.

We’ll get injuries that need covering during the season. I’m betting Petty will be banging the door down soon enough as well. We’re very well positioned for a serious tilt at the flag, it’s no wonder we’re favourites

I think that sums it up for me, if we were judging him purely as a forward then you would have him out. I'm judging him as a 2nd ruck/forward/utility and for me he is just doing enough, every game into him assists his development so for that reason I think the bar is also set lower. That said as you've pointed out bing once we have a full compliment of Weid/Brown/TMac the headache will come on how we use them all the to the best of their ability. Jackson will certainly move out of being a forward and probably go to being more of a utility/onballer/2nd ruck.

We also shouldn't be afraid to drop him, send him to Casey for stints as their number one ruckman so that he can get a taste of what it's like to ruck all day for multiple weeks.

Yep. He's not really playing as a key forward at all.

We shouldn't underestimate what that kind of flexibility provides to the team. He's playing very large portions in the ruck and holding his own.
