Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I loved the game watching from home unfortunately but noticed that the Team is really starting to jell and do what a good team does, work, work work and look out for each other. We were able to wrestle back the lead and slow them down at will, if only we had of converted even 50% of our opportunities it could have been a percentage booster, still in my mind a great win as  I am always nervous with the Saints at Marvel Stadium. Well done Dee's.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I don’t know the stats but I reckon in recent years our win ratio is better there than at the G.

Clayton Oliver easily best afield. Getting closer and closer to A+ grade.

I thought it should have been a 10+ goal victory, but happy enough to start 2 zip.

The connection between the mids was far better this week. Was this down to the inclusion of Viney or coincidence?

Sitting up high on level 3, an unusual position for me, it was obvious that we set up beautifully behind the ball against the Saints and without silly unforced they'd have struggled to kick goals all night.

Marvel really suits our zone as we can blanket space a lot more easily, but on the flip side our uncontested work the first two weeks has been outstanding. A real weak area of our game historically. Our delivery inside 50 and connection from back to front has really improved since last year. Another historical weakness of ours. Our forwards need to get the job done though. Fritsch has become a liability. He gets it so often, but couldn't hit the side of a barn half the time. Surely that's mental.

Banking the win against GWS is an absolute must next week. Confidence must be high heading into the Geelong game.

Just watching it again, C Oliver is very lucky Butler didn’t turn his head the other way 3 mins into the 3rd.

Ling saying teammates got stuck into Kozzie for not lowering the eyes into 50 and having a shot but to gutless to say who and no replay.

Hey AF, we chatted about it during the week (and disagreed a little but that's footy), but thought Oliver's pressure and intensity was up a notch to my eyes this week. Doubled his tackle count from the previous week, which you'd be happy about! Also had more clearances and contested possessions. Maybe I'm giving credit where it's not due, but felt like Viney really lifted the centre mids with his intent in the opening minutes and Clarry went with him. Whatever it was, he lifted in that area IMO and deserves the credit.

Kysaiah had a shot on goal with about 13.20 to go in the 3rd, he doesn’t make the distance but he goes again as the ball comes back into the fwd 50 and he has a 1 handed pick up that is breathtaking, followed by a snap.

How does he do those one handed pick ups??

looks like he has glue on his hands

My three spews  Oliver has been persecuted/pummelled two games running

These umpires cannot tell the time it takes to hold marks, unless it's STK players.

                               What was Max's warning about?

Petracca ran through the square.

As for Max's game I thought he struggled for the most part. His game last week was ordinary and if he's not marking around the ground, his tap work is too predictable to cause the opposition too many headaches. Last night he was playing his loose man in defence role and if you watch the tape, he falls over multiple times or fails to kill the contest and St Kilda get scores. He needs to lift.

Sure, we sprayed it a bit but we had 39 shots on goal tonight. I'd far prefer we get it inside 50 for a dodgy shot on goal than have the opposition's loose man rack up 10 uncontested marks against us.

Turn those shots into goals and we can start erecting an Yze statue at the G...

That is a great stat. Our efficiency felt better, so it's good to have it backed up.

What I found interesting was that the majority of our players were practicing shots from 30m directly in front before the game as if we were looking to hit that area, but Fritsch and others constantly lead to the pockets.

As I said did not see the game. Luke Jackson’s stats look ordinary. Have not seen any comment about him. How was his game.

Luke took a few nice marks , missed an easy goal (by not much I might add) made some skill errors and got out positioned by his opponent several times

I am a big fan and think he will be a very good player but atm he looks like he lacks some confidence - hopefully he can put together a strong game this week

He certainly wasn’t alone in the skill errors dept quarter 3 probably some of the sloppiest footy I’ve seen for a while

I was glad to see Goodwin give Luke encouragement straight after he’d made a simple error I think he’s in good hands with our coaching group

ANB taking first options.

The standing on the mark rule has been really beneficial for us especially as we are not overthinking where the next passage of play should open up. We are playing whats in front of us with less time to kick through congested midfield zones.

If there is space we are attacking it, if not we are hitting short targets until other spaces open up to exploit.

ANB seems less hesitant than in previous years as he can play on quick and chisel kicks without worrying about the man on the mark.

We seem alot more controlled and measured. Maxy playing a kick behind play for periods is making us impenetrable in stages throughout games which is making us difficult to play against.

I had an interesting take on Brayshaws role last night. He always seem to be the release player. He didn’t go into the contest as much but sat 10 off it and got the handball. Wonder if that’s the new role. As he can kick left and right with some competency it’s a suitable role.

Bang on this. He set up constantly in dangerous positions off the back of stoppages, always there to release. Completely agree with this. Top post.

I think he compliments Langdon nicely on the wing too, because Langdon can cover the ground so much better, but Gus has a knack of putting himself in dangerous positions at stoppages, whereas Langdon tends to get it on the rebound.

I questioned whether Yze's influence on the midfield was a good thing last week given we struggled for midfield connection, but this week it has to be said, the mix in there is looking really solid. Some much better signs structurally this week too.

Oliver is just... there are no words. A freak.

Nah apparently he handballs too much and isn't effective. Apparently, he is also not worth anything over 800k. literally our best midfielder we've had in 50 years.

He wasn’t great, OD, but he went into the ruck when we were looking shaky. We seemed to halt momentum and get it our way. Looks another midfielder when he’s in there with his quick hands. Should’ve kicked a goal.

Hopefully Sideshow will fix that somewhat when he comes in AF.  Fritta is the main offender here.  I understand him leading out there as a decoy / change up occasionaly but not so often.

Part of the problem may lie with those who keep trying to honour him for going their imv.  Maybe there weren't many alternatives aside from Tommy at times leading up the middle.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
