Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

James Jordon 20 possessions and 9 tackles

Breath of fresh air in the midfield

He's starting to grow on me Jimmy Jordon along with Sparrow.??

Biggest thing I've taken away from last week and last night has been our tackling pressure inside forward 50, we racked up 15 last week and last night we notched up 12.

This new dimension that has been added to this multi faceted team will take us deep if we can sustain it.

St.Kilda wilted under pressure and it was no more evident when there best ball user Hill was missing targets from the percieved pressure that was generated from the Dees mosquito fleet.

It has been long overdue, it was immense, i loved every minute of it and long may it continue.

Do both Weed and Brown come straight in? I can’t see them dropping Jackson and If T Mac continues with his current form, then I see only Brown being a lock

That's the question, if T.Mac maintains his form does Weideman get a game? No for mine.

Weideman will come back first from injury. He’ll go to Casey for a few weeks as will Brown. When you look at Jackson you need to look at his affect on Gawn. Combined they are a massive plus. Can we play the 3 talks and Fritsch in the same forward line? Will they try McDonald on the wing?

Rivers, Kossie and Jackson are all great examples and we haven’t even had to blood Bowie, Laurie or Rosman. Finally our kids can develop in the 2s and really be ready when they get thrown in.

From the two games this year - the form of Jordon and Sparrow show that having to do an apprenticeship in the VFL isn't a terrible thing.

Yes he needs to do that.

Chocco said he reminds him of a young Tredrea.   If anyone else said that it could be laughed off or scoffed at, but we are learning pretty fast that when Chocco says something he means it.

I saw Spargo was copping it in the gameday thread in the 1st half,  but the little meastro turned it around to again make some important plays with his unusually large footy brain.

Never write off the little meastro.

There was nothing more cringe-worthy than BT calling G. Ablett the little master. There's only one little master on this planet, and he played cricket. While I'm a big fan of Spargo, the copycat tag/legend status is a tad premature.

I agree about the unusually large footy brain.

The only time things looked messy was when Gawn kept floating back into the backline, for about 10 minutes where we really lost the plot and started dropping easy marks and fumbling.  Max really needs to stay out of the backline as he messes up any structure we have back there and was flying for and dropping marks while taking out Lever/May/Tomlinson out of the contest.   Most of all though i think Gawn adds very little at ground level and if he is not taking marks he just gets in the way.

As soon as they moved him forward and Jackson into the midfield we looked so much better and regained some composure.

Max could kick 30+ goals this season if we just rest him forward.

Our backline is great atm, keep the beard out of this area of the ground!

Gawn took a number of intercept marks in the backline last night, all of which could have saved a goal to the opposition. Saying that a 208cm ruckman who can reach higher than anyone else on the ground "should stay out of the backline" is silly.

The last midfield player to consistently play 100% was Scully who then broke down and lost his passion for the game.

Scully never played more than 90% game time for us in any game.

He played 100% in only one game with GWS, which was in 2017.

I agree - although I just heard Steven May on the radio say that he was joking with Goody after the game that he should keep Gawn out of the backline as it messes with the backline's system.

There is some truth to that in terms of a couple of times where we had 2+ up.  But at the same time, having Gawn stand in the hole as the St Kilda mids attempted to move the ball forward - clearly it made them think twice about where to kick to.  I think this is something that we'll need to experiment with and maybe tweak each game depending on the strengths of the opposition.

Not when he is getting in the way of Lever/May/Tomlinson.  You might think it silly, but we looked better the moment Gawn was told to go forward, as we were not so congested.

Gawn previously has been an issue in the backline imo.....You can't just flood back and have nobody to kick to when you go forward.

After watching replay of the game earlier today my comments stand.

The coaches would have realised he was actually creating more issues down back, than solving them when we were under the pump.  I expect to see this 208 cm giant forward or ruck, where he can exert a lot more influence on games.

Sorry to be so silly communicating something i thought was as clear as daylight actually watching the game.

I don't think any less of Max, just how he is utilised.  Hopefully the coaches see that too.

3 things

1.  If we hadn't dropped 3 simple marks that led to 3 goals for them

2. If we hadn't pulled the jumper for 3 goals for them

3.If just Fritsch (and there were many others) kicked straight we would have had 4 more goals.

While they also made some mistakes, it would have turned it into a thrashing.

Great win, think many are underestimating our set up behind the ball, which played a big part in Saints poor disposal.

Many times there players had ball in hand and had no free teammates in space, they ran to try and create handball chains but ran into trouble. Gus played his role and we we held our structure well instead of being bees to the honey pot.

Spargo is and has always been a smart footballer, Jordan touch of difference, Sparrow does the team thing, smart body position and cool for a young player. Tomlinson works perfectly as the third defender.

Lot to like about our ability to get wins and be in control when we we have more improvement in us

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
