Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The only reason the umpiring decisions were a factor is because Brisbane kicked themselves out of the game.

Daniher can’t kick. Hipwood lethal from 50 out on the boundary but can’t nail his regulation shots.

Brisbane have grown soft playing at home for a year against tired Hub teams. I don’t think they play finals this year.

Geelong will win most of their games down there but they’re not to be feared and will win no premiership this year or next for that matter.

From a Dees perspective I would take great heart watching that game last night. We should beat them in Round 4. May handles Hawkins. Match them on the inside and use the wide open spaces of the G to tire out their old legs.

Do we have to tag Neale in Round 4?

What are your feelings on tonight's Tattslotto numbers. I'm just asking for a friend.

It wasn't a great standard tonight.  Neither team took on the corridor enough.  Both teams played cute.

Neither team can finish top 4 if that's what they're going to serve up.  Dangerfield & Cameron might make a difference but Fagan has some work on his hands with Brisbane

From what I saw Geelong are persisting with the rope a dope patience game that took us three quarters to adapt to, and deal with at the 'G last year. I hope we've it worked out in two weeks time. We finished all over them and but for a narrow miss would have stolen the game in the last 15 seconds (Tomlinson from 50).

I hate Selwood, in fact all the Jee-long team, but Selwood the most. Although if Dangerfield had been playing it would have been a toss up.

I feel sorry for Lachy Neale. He got harassed so much.

That moron Scott pulls faces at so many umpiring decisions during matches. Then after the match has the temerity to say "I feel sorry for the umpires. It's such a difficult game to umpire". So I hate him too. Although probably not as much as Selwood.

P.S. Rohan is right up there (or should that be down there) with Selwood and Dangerfield.

PPS.  Shame Harry Taylor isn't still playing. I quite liked him.

Prior Opportunity: a designation to a Player in Possession of the Football who:
(a) is balanced and steady; or
(b) attempts to evade or fend an opponent; or
(c) has taken a Mark or been awarded a Free Kick; or
(d) has driven their head into a stationary or near stationary opponent.

The bigger issue is the amount of throwing going on under the umps' noses.

But the umps routinely fail to penalise incorrect disposal in match after match after match. The refereeing of the game has been in crisis for several seasons.

Agree, the Selwood throw is an example of how reticent the umpires are to call this.  It used to be that you needed to have the hand holding the ball stationary for it 'not' to be called a throw.  Move both hands in unison and you were often called for throwing the ball regardless of the contact you made with the other hand.

He should because they should stamp that behind the play stuff out however the dolt missed and will get off.

There was footage of Neale on the ground holding his jaw prior to them showing the Rohan strike (which was ten or so minutes later).  Neale stayed down for a long time and looked in real distress that might have explained why he was so animated with Rohan.   A simple round arm to the chest wouldn't suggest him holding up three fingers.  A lot will depend on the medical report after the game.  I think there's probably some evidence that Rohan did connect with Neale's jaw.

Agree 'Red' and interestingly one of the commentators said when Scott approached the umps last year an expected please explain was not forthcoming from the AFL.

Remind me...who runs the AFL footy department? and who did he play for?

mmmm

Yes it's a conspiracy theory but in all honesty they need to be seen to do the right thing and they don't.

Is it any wonder fans don't trust the AFL to do the right thing.

Scott should be hauled over the coals for this...

...by the way, I was hoping a player did go up and get in his face and then see his reaction.

Me too. I also hoped someone took him on to see what would happen.

I'm not denying it wasn't a poor decision ... of course it was.  I'd just prefer to look at the big picture rather than isolated moments.  Besides which, the umpire might not have had a clear view of the incident

But that poor decision is not the prime reason that the Lions lost the game

Did you watch the game?

If so, let us know your evaluation of Brisbane's first quarter and a half.

Don't hold back either.  A proper evaluation.

Most here have acknowledged that the Lions were really poor in the first half

Now, if they had have come out of the blocks as they should have,  that last decision wouldn't have had any consequences.

By the way, Fagan has just said that he is not concerned about that non decision ... good on him.  Otherwise he gives his players an out

That's where we differ. Whether they played badly or indifferently prior, the non - decision is the prime reason the game went to Geelong. If the umpire doesn't [censored] himself (as so many do down there), that game goes to Brisbane.

If I was a Geelong member, I'd be very disappointed that games are now televised there in Prime time. Other than West Coast, there's really no other place that shafts the opposition. And the icing on the cake is that because it's a marginal seat, their facilities are state of art. If you're sensing I dislike these pracks, you're on to something.

Just a question in my mind from last nights game. Geelong had used all their rotations with 4-5 minutes to go. Can you make a medical sub if you have no rotations left?

Might be another loophole to exploit for an additional rotation if so....

Well there is close to zero emotion with me and I rarely if ever talk through my hip pocket so one umpiring decision means absolutely nothing.

Besides which, there were more than a dozen questionable decisions made last night (due to any number of factors)

Fact is that Brisbane didn't turn up and that's why they lost.  Do you reckon any of the Lions players or coaches are concerned with one howler at the end of the game?  If they are they're in the wrong game

Try looking at the big picture and then you'll see it my way.  If I was a Lions supporter I'd be thinking my team has got ahead of itself ... and there would be zero excuses.  Swans kicked 23 goals against them last week and then they start like that against Geelong ... pathetic

Lets just agree to disagree ... we obviously view sport differently and that isn't going to change

I see what you see (poor umpiring decisions) but have a different evaluation from an overall point of view.

All teams are on the receiving end of questionable decisions and all the teams are beneficiaries of poor decisions.

Teams need to be above all that ... be the best team and a few howlers won't matter

That is how I view it ... try it sometime,  you might find that all that angst you and others display is futile anyway

But if you prefer to howl at the moon, go right ahead - won't bother me

I skim past those sort of posts

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
