Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What a lot of the blind faith fans on here don't seem to realize that, as suggested by Sydee, successful clubs  need to be well organised business wise. Loyalty has little value and can be a trap if not managed well (Viney, Treloar etc). That is why you see many clubs trading proven players with value. Paying the ones you really want to keep is the trick.

Ah sorry MD I don't support trading LJ - please don't suggest I am in any way a fan of that strategy thank you

It is not a matter of what he wants or why would we sign him. The answer is simple. If he walked unsigned we would get nothing for him. I just had a look at the contracts and cap, It will be hard to keep Petracca and Oliver and pay them what they are worth, unless we free up some room in the cap. We don't have many players with much value to others. Jackson is one and I suspect he will head west. Brayshaw has some value and we can't afford (or properly use) him and Viney. Either way we will be moving players on at years' end to afford the future we want.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I have total faith that if Oliver and Petracca commit to us it will not be at the expense of LJ.

Sorry mate. That is just wrong

So untrue about 75% is all a player can do of Clarries footy that's why he is elite.!

Deserves with Trac the highest $ to stay.

If T Mac keeps playing the way he has he will be valuable by the end of the season and will be expendable with all the other options we have. If he was traded to say the Pies that would release the money we need for a Kelly who would take the wing that Gus is on. Gus could potentially move on to play with his brother. One or both could be the solution to getting Kelly but he'd want to be playing better than last season and he'd have to be prepared to take a salary cut at least back to what Oliver and Trac will be getting.

Can someone tell me the last marquee big name trade that occurred that did not involve free agency?

Dylan Shiel and O’Meara and to a lesser extent Jake Lever spring to mind but not many others.

My point is that it is rare for a gun player such as Oliver to be traded before he reaches free agency status.

Assuming Oliver is happy at the club, I’d say (and hope) he’ll do a Trac and re-sign for 2 years taking him to free agency. Then he’ll sign his massive contract.

Of course he will.

Since FA was introduced very few top players have signed beyond their FA (8th) year.  And then only for mega deals.

He will get paid handsomely for the next two years.  Then he can go to the club of choice and get a big payday, if that is what he wants.

Unless a player is really unhappy all managers will advise them to contract until their 8th year.

All the more reason why we need to be in the top four from now on. It is the best way to retain the our best players and attract top talent. Once Brown and Weid return, l really think we have the makings of a premiership team. Is the coach up for it?

Righto. So you're OK with trading Pickett, May, Lever, Gawn, Viney, Langdon, Salem, Rivers?

No, but they are milimetres below Oliver, Tracc and LJ (i will add S May to the untouchables)

i would hate to have a Collingwood situation happen before we have even won anything

2021 is Jones' second 1 year contract.

A lot of players at both ends of their careers play for minimum wages plus match payments.  Not saying that applies to Jones.  But we shouldn't be looking at older players nor younger players/rookies to free up much sal cap, if any at all; unless we want a list of approx 36-37 players instead of 42.

At no time did I say you did support trading LJ. At no time did I say I wanted to trade anybody - it's not my job. I hope those at the club that locked Viney into such a long contract do a better job keeping Trac and Oliver. They will walk if they are not better looked after than Viney because others will make big offers for them. I have had 60 years of poor management since my Dad played for the dees in the fifties. You suggested club management was important. I don't really care who is traded. I was having a reality check. If we want keep Trac an Oliver and pay them what they are worth, others will be traded. I am open to any suggestions to who they might go and who would want them at what price. The ignore option on here is great. It is the ultimate insult to say someone is not worth listening to an opinion from. There is a few fans on here must have such sad lives to chase negative attention with multiple accounts.

Settle down MD I wasn't having a dig at you simply clarifying that I do not support any suggestion we trade LJ

The is a long list of players who are quite well paid (I suspect) that would be higher on my list to consider trading to manage the list

I'd rather note list them because that is not my role it belongs to our list managers - they know far better than me

Not sure how you interpreted my comments as some sort of insult as that was certainly not intended

MD you seem to not be a LJ fan to quote you from 21 March

"The only reason to play Jackson at the moment is to increase his trade value. Jackson is superfluous to need and it was a mistake to draft him. He will never be a first ruck and if he can't make this team as a forward he will be playing at Casey most of the year. We have 2 guys running around Casey that would do Jackson's job better. Majac has been doing well and Andrew Courtney is a better ruck and a better forward. The best hope is that some team sees value in Jackson and take him off our hands."

That's fine you are entitled to your opinion. Any you may be right LJ may turn out to be a bust - personally I don't hold that view we can respectfully agree to disagree on that

No insult, I am engaging you. You seem to have an idea that winning on the field does not happen unless the off-field is excellent, I agree. I actually think Jackson will be pretty good in 2-3 years. Max took years of Casey before he was the best in the league. No other ruck on our list will get the gig while Max is around. They are there for back-up. If they can't kick goals they won't keep forwards out of the team.

The best career move a ruck on our list can do is go to another team. Footy is a business, the Dees have done some things very well. They have also done things badly. There is an issue ahead that if you want to have the best players in the league, you have to pay them what they are worth.  Trac and Oliver are possibly in the top ten in the league - Viney and Brayshaw might scrape into the top 100. Jackson may be worth rolling the dice on to be a top ten player, I doubt there is the budget or the years that might take to happen here.

If the only way to keep Trac and Oliver was to trade others out there s not many that are worth enough to make enough difference. I think it will be bye to L.J. and probably Brayshaw, maybe others too. I think we will be open to offers if we want the best. The cheap talent we have is very good value as a supporting cast. It is something the club have done OK with.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
