Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very strange thread.

Who cares what he earns.

The only thing that matters is that he stays a demon, preferably long term..

I dont think anyone is questioning around the financial stuff, but more so his worth as a player.

Personally if it was up to me he'd be the highest paid player on our list. That's how bloody good he is.

Oliver had 25 handballs.

Using this game alone, who was more effective;

Trac - 25 (13 Kicks 11 handballs and 2.1 Goals - Including one that missed everything when he 'played on')

Oliver - 35 (10 Kicks 25 handballs)

Tim Watson is not wrong, even with the high numbers Oliver produced.

How do people feel about Tom Mitchell from Hawthorn?

He wins a mountain of footy but doesn't do any great damage from a game sense.

But Tom Mitchell is still good enough to win a Brownlow Medal!!

In the SEN interview, Pert said:

“He’s not indicating that he wants to see how he’s playing or the team is performing, it’s more about that we’re having conversation (on a range of things) and there might be some talk around the financial packaging....we move on all these things as quickly as the player and manager wants. Ideally it never becomes a distraction throughout the year.”

My take on this is that negotiations are some way down the track.  No need for the dispondancy.

He’ll sign for 2 years

Of course he will.

Since FA was introduced very few top players have signed beyond their FA (8th) year.  And then only for mega deals.

He will get paid handsomely for the next two years.  Then he can go to the club of choice and get a big payday, if that is what he wants.

Unless a player is really unhappy all managers will advise them to contract until their 8th year.

If Oliver wanted out at the end of the year it would be a lot harder to cross to the team of his choice as opposed to being a free agent - would it not?

I'm expecting a 2 year extension but that's contingent on us not having a disastrous year and Oliver being happy with the coaching staff and his football in general.

Definitely much harder.  The team that wants him has to find 2 frist round picks and it would have to be around 5-6 and the other in the low teens.

Not many clubs will have that draft hand.  Unless of course they do what WCE did with Kelly and hand over a batch of late 1st round picks and 2nd round picks (current and future).  Hell would break lose on here if that happened.

If he is determined to go and forces the club’s hand then we have to get a proven player plus a high pick in return. We have enough developing youngsters as it is.

If it’s Essendon I want Merrett and perhaps a high second rounder. If Carlton then I would try for Saad (he doesn’t seem to mind switching clubs) and a first rounder.

Well we have some that say that he's actually not that important of a player and can be replaceable (ridiculous really..) and some questioning whether they're willing to pay top dollar.

Give him what he wants.

My man! My 5-nearly-6 yo LOVES Trac. (And Romsey Lever, coz his grandma used to teach him. And Ed Langdon, coz dad loves that Energizer Bunny in long sleeves.)

Trac sells memberships, wins games.

Thanks for the backup for my opinion.

petracca wouldn't be able to do half of what he does without clarry giving the ball to him, yes trac is the dusty mould who walks out the front of stoppages, kicks goals and looks good doing it all but imagine if clarry wasn't burried under every pack it would be the oppo waltzing out the front door. as crucial cog as any in our side and that cannot be debated

Play finals and that will take care of it's self.

There are many on here that don't believe in body language or other clues to feelings and emotion bias but Clayton gives none of the indicators that he wants to be somewhere else.

This conversation is distinctly reminding me of the way so many Demon fans started talking down Hogan when we were anxious about him leaving.  And that went on for years.

Different person, different situation, different everything, really.

Oliver's stats are not winning us games of football, despite what everyone thinks.

See above example

Including the coaches it seems...

I think they might have a better idea than you.

See below example.

Steven May 5 and 5 votes
Clayton Oliver 4 and 3 votes
Jake Lever 4 and 3 votes
Tom McDonald 2 and 2 votes
Andrew Brayshaw 1 and 1 votes

Looks like the only disagreement was on Lever and Oliver.

I had some nufty try to tell me on Facebook that Oliver was nowhere near best on ground. I'd have Oliver and Lever ahead of May personally, but clearly the three best players on the ground.

The nufty has similar company on here who constantly pick Oliver's game apart. It's like they've never seen a Melbourne team play prior to Oliver's debut. I've been banging on for years on Demonland that he's the best I've seen in my 33 years. That remains. As for Oliver being replaceable... what world are you living in?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
