Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Further to your comment Werridee, I notice Vanders has been singled out as one of our best players in the last 2 VFL practice games - so I would imagine he is busting down the door to be selected.

In his presser Goodwin made a comment which suggested that AVB Hibbo & Melksham not in the mix this week

In 2017. We beat St Kilda at Marvel and then Carlton at the MCG. A most impressive start under Goodwin.

Then lost the next 3.

I think St Kilda are made of the right stuff this year and a bit of adversity such as backing up from the wet weather on a 6 day break won't bother them.

Be interesting to see how we go without Harmes butchering the ball with every possession.

Oh wait it will just be someone else butchering the ball with every possession.

2017, which is also the last time we won in roud one at all.

Prior to that you have to go back to 2005.

Record in first two rounds between 2006-2016 (inclusive) = 2 wins, 1 draw, 17 losses.

Coincidentally, St Kilda featured in 2017 pair of wins as well as ending the 3-game winning run to start 2015 when I believe it was Brent Guerra drove Cameron Bruce's shoulder into the ground at the first bounce with a late spear tackle that would get you about 14 weeks suspension now and was clearly done on coaches instructions. Hard to believe but Bruce was the absolute in-form player of the AFL at the start of 2005, and we were the in-form team. 53 goals in three games.  Mind blowing

Oh, I'm fired up for the game now.

Damn I remember that, I remembered thinking to myself “we beat the Saints then we make finals”. Sadly we were still Melbourne, losing to the Roos twice in tight games and Fremantle at home.

Lmao since 2000 i knew it was bad 1st rounds but that is crazy! Sell us hope this year Demons!

Have the feeling we going to come out blazing on a fast circuit and big crowd...Melbourne by 4 goals.  St Kilda have plenty of weaknesses, should be a cracker! Kossie to have an absolutely blinder, delighting fans and media alike!

Yes and no Jacko.

The reason why Jones is playing is because no one at VFL is exactly banging down the door to replace him. You don't want players playing just for the sake that they're younger and need games. I'd rather our players earning their spot instead of being gifted just for the sake of it.

I would like to think the likes of Laurie, Bedford, Bowey can really play some significant football down at Casey to the point where they overtake Jones in the senior side.

Dazzle this line of sensibility has no place in a Demonland forum!  I would ask that you refrain from any further posts along similar lines.

I for one am used to seeing 8 to 10 rookies running out most weeks of most seasons, further increasing our chances of losing and continuing to break losing records as we maintain our decades long push for a place outside the eight (more often than not!).

Last week we only fielded 6 rookies.  The Dockers instead fielded 9.  .

And then we had the audacity to field 10 experienced players who had 100 games or more under their belt vs the Dockers 4.  Deesgraceful selection form on our part.

Nothing wrong with remaining mediocre and irrelevant is there!?  How anyone would anyone want to improve our chances of winning by doing otherwise is just baffling.

All power to blooding as many green  youngsters as possible every year i say.

We were sitting front row or 2 at the saints game that year. It was such a great, happy start to the season. We called big Max over as the team ran around high five-ing the crowd after the game, and took a photo of him giving my Mum a cuddle. I’d post it but it might out me ?

I remember our 2005 start well. From memory Bruce had 9 brownlow votes after 3 games and was the hottest player in the comp. He never came bk to the same level after that spear tackle and I’m not sure we quite found the same spark as a team after that loss either.

It can't help them. I imagine they won't have that extra time to work on deficiencies and their muscle could feel the burn.

Possibly made a bit more difficult since it is the start of the season. If mid year I may agree.

We had better get our act together. They look like a team that will punish turnovers. A real test for our backline.

King is a difficult match up. Will need lots of body contact so he can't get a run at it.

Viney should make a difference to the mids, he has a unique connection with Gawn. Hoping he plays smart as well as tough. At least he will help at the stoppage contests and hopefully win some clearances with Oliver and Sparrow (if selected).

Picket is getting closer, a little bit more experience and he will take those marks and be less fumbly.

Since '64 MFC have never had a season where we have done it easily. Eevn in the relative glory days (87-2004?) we would always require a late season surge to make up for an earlier slump.

Have often wondered what it must be like to barrack for a team where your greatest concern is whether you will finish 1,2 or 3.

I supsect I will continue wondering

I think it’ll only be Viney for Harmes.
I wouldn’t mind bringing in another small forward. Likely Chandler. Possibly Bedford. Not sure that’ll happen unless they make Jones 23rd player.
I thought Jones was ok last week and doesn’t deserve to be dropped. But I can see him playing 23rd man at times.

Have often thought our crap facilities since we left the g were partly responsible fr a slight % less fitness and cohesion and therefore slumps. slumps costing possible  premierships in those years when we were genuinely a good side. I’m not at all convinced we are one this year btw.

you might have to predate 64 as a “ doing it easy year” though.  we had to beat the hawks in a tight final game to reach the finals that year, which we did with about 60 secs to go. But i could live with doing it tough like that!!

Quite a few comments querying how we're going to be able to cover St Kilda's pace and small forwards.

We didn't have much trouble covering them the last time we played, which was just 7 months ago.

Higgins is a major addition to their fwd line that didn’t play last year (and Gresham)

Has been impressive in the practice matches and round 1.

I think they have the best small forward department in the league.

Higgins, Butler, Lonie, Gresham and Billings is a sensational combination.

Viney was 2nd in breaking tackles last season with a long way to third. Dusty being No 1. He breaks more than he gets caught.

If our talls can intercept mark like last week it’ll be telling. Limit their crumbs

however if multiple talls go up for the same ball and/or King can bring it to ground we are in trouble

I reckon we lose if our mids play like they did last week.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
