Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Disappointing news - despite the lack of love for James Harmes from some here at Demonland I think we are a better team with him in the side - played out of position most of last year which was not his choice

Big fan of what Harmes did a few years back but he’s been very  average since. Yes maybe he’s been played out of his preferred position but I’m all for giving someone else a chance and hoping harmes can force his way back into a side with good form

I just don’t understand why Hunt has been moved back to the backline in the first place:

I reckon the thinking is to take advantage of his pace and ability to run and carry of half back. Mtres gain will be his KPI

Speed is super important, and we are not the quickest side that for sure. So Hunt helps with that.

And with the fatigue from rotations and longer quarter and arguably the man on the mark rule change (though i reckon the jury is still out on the impact of this ) there will be more space so running players are going to be more important than ever.

Problem is he simply doesn't get enough of the pill.

(note: perhaps you meant you don’t understand why Hunt was moved FROM the the backline in the first place. If so my comments above makes no sense!)

Viney in for Harmes

reward the rest for the win. No one had a complete howler. Hibbo and Melk need another run at Casey imo and are not automatic starters

No, I meant moved from forward line as he was one of the few players who could successfully lead up at the ball carrier last year when playing forward.

If anything, he should be played as the winger opposite Langdon instead of Brayshaw.

Ok. Then my answer makes sense.

I have always thought he could be winger, but again the problem is he doesn't get enough of the pill. And i'm not sure how good his aerobic fitness is

The injury list has Hibberd(ankle) ) Melksham and Viney (foot) as as test this week.

But also notes all three made it through the VFL practice match unscathed.

So you'd reckon all three are good to go, unless they are not match fit.

Or they the MIW.

Like Harmes should be a tagger (one less player just going for the ball all the time), Hunt should have been left in the backline.

Our coach holds the keys to the Ferrari....Ridiculous he has gone from back to forward and now back again.

Hunt runs in straight lines and rarely is allowed to burst from backline.   They experimented with him there for quite a while, he still has same issues of not having any/many tricks like a sidestep to avoid a tackler.

He looked like a gun early on, he has gone so far backwards i am not sure what to think of him as player.

Actually i do, after 9 years in the system he should be far better and have developed some tricks to his game.

He has not been developed well at all, unless you count grabbing teammates on the ar$e as one of his tricks.

Is that the same player that once got a 37 possession 3 goal game playing as an inside mid?

If he has the same name, and looks the same, and wears the same jumper and number, and demonstrates his good understanding of his teammates who all call him 'Gus', then I'd reckon it is the same player being requested to play 'Angel on the Wing' to save Goodwin's neck as the latter cannot train, coach, develop or acclimatise the required footballing type for nuts - so he sacrifices one highly talented player's footy career and a pleasing team outcome in a process of self infatuation subsidised by the MFC.

Demons to be wearing black arm bands this weekend. A very sad passing. Expect announcements to be made in the coming days.

Another Goody coaching special. Hunt is not one of my faves but he does have a great awareness of where the goals are and if played should be closer to the fwd line.

Or, Goodwin believes Brayshaw on the wing and whoever replaces him in the midfield is better for the team than Brayshaw in the middle and whoever replaces him on the wing.

Sometimes the simplest answers are the best.

In the interest of over analysing content from the club to guess team selection. Blue team looks like the ones. But there was a few who played on both sides including Jones, Sparrow, Viney and I think maybe Melksham. And as far as I could see Hunt was in the pink the whole time. Read into that what you will

Viney for Harmes

Otherwise leave a winning team as is.

Not sure about Melks. He was a passenger last year. Hibberd is a favourite but his best days are behind him. I’d be nervous with both him and Jetta in the same backline.

Sparrow and Rivers will be better for the run out so back them in.

'W. Hoever' is the perfect nom deplume for a wing position that anyone on the list has had a go at, for the last 4/5 years ?‍♂️

Disagree with both of you. 18 touches with 9 handballs and 9 kicks going at a touch over 60% with four turnovers.

I watched him closely, and aside from a few good individual pieces of play, he was underwhelming. The bloke came third in a brownlow after playing his natural game ffs. Are we thinking about this?!? I am completely disillusioned with Goodwin.

Against better sides, his lack of transition speed will be found out. His natural instinct is to see ball get ball so I've never understood Goodwin's propensity to play natural inside and contested ball winners on a wing with a role that goes completely against their natural game. We've always had issues with our mids being sucked into the contest. And part of that is due to playing natural ball winners in outside positions who find it hard to hold space. When has it worked over the last two years or three years? Tyson, Jones, Brayshaw, AVB..

Tom Phillips was there as a cheap option over the trade period. Look at how played for Hawthorn on the weekend. A natural wingman.

Gus is not even a top runner at the club either so the extended quarters and fewer rotations are not going to help him. His ball use is iffy at best.

I will wait a few more games when we play better oppo, but it's already concerning. We've seen this before and to what effect?

100% agree. Brayshaw is an inside mid and that's where he needs to play. I'm not surprised Goodwin is playing him on the outside though because Goodwin has no idea about football and I can't wait until he is gone.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
