Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This could go either way. Everything is on the table, from no changes to Goody bringing back all his favourites in Viney, Melksham and Vanders.

If it were me, it would be Viney in for Sparrow most likely, and that’s it.

Gee i'm glad some on here aren't on the selection committee

I urge some to re-watch the game.

Worst performance was the midfield, Coaches specifically. Stoppage work was very disorganised.

Ins and outs apart from Viney are quite irrelevant given the personnel on hand.

Only change I can see this week is Viney in for Jones barring an unexpected injury.

But as people said Viney, Hibbo and Melksham are all underdone and may need another full game in the VFL before being picked.

Unless Jones gets injured or has a total stinker, I think he will retain his spot so we can get him to 300 games. And I’m not mad about it. I think Jones’ ball use going inside 50 is pretty good and he is still contributing to the team.
Let’s get him to 300 games that he so richly deserves.

Bizarre comment.

Yes Lord he did perform those team things however as a small forward I would like him to also contribute on the scoreboard to the tune of 1-2 goals a game

If the FD are serious, they wont play Jones on a fast deck against a very fast side. He was servicable, but he should be the one that goes out.

No way would i drop Hunt.

Viney for Jones.

Viney for Sparrow/Jones.

Torn on who goes out as I feel we need to persist with Sparrow and give him a run of games. I also think Jones did some good things and seemed to move more freely than he did last year and would be a little stiff to be dropped. Need to get Viney in the team if fit though.

Talk of dropping Jetta after his performance on the weekend is off the mark. His one on one contest work was great. Whilst Hunt and Harmes weren't at there best I think they need an extended run in their new positions as they both have a lot to add to the backline and midfield respectively if they settle in over the coming weeks.

I can't understand the love for Jetta here. It is embarrassing watching him trail in ten metres behind his man. A decent small forward in a decent team would have kicked at least five goals on him on the weekend. He was cooked at the end of 2018.

I don't know what the answer is given our critical lack of quality small defenders, but either Higgins or Butler will have a field day against him.

Hunt and Sparrow would be the others on edge - Viney has to come in if fit and probably Hibberd as well.

I watched the game and one thing that stood out was Nev chasing a Freo player into the goalsquare and stop chasing/stopped dead.

If your mail is right bad luck for Harmesy, but for the team, it will be a blessing in disguise.  More time on the ball for Angus and more midfield time for Jordon and Sparrow.

what's the injury to harmes?

Second hand info passed on, but good source. Copped a wrist injury during the Freo game and has had to have surgery, likely out for 6 weeks or so. Also copped a nose injury as well so did well to just play out the game.

Definitely changes my perspective on his performance somewhat.

If Hibberd is ready, he should replace Jetta. Admittedly, Jetta played his best game in about two years, but we shouldn't play both Hibberd and Jetta in the same side and at this stage in their careers, Hibberd is ahead of Jetta. Jetta also played better than Hunt, but we'll need pace to contain the St Kilda small forwards and Jetta has nothing to offer there.

If Viney is ready, he should come in for Chandler although not as the sub. That might be where Sparrow ends up.

If Melksham is ready, he comes in for Jones.

I'm quite comfortable with none of Viney, Hibberd and Melksham playing. I would, however, not keep Chandler as the sub. Either play him from the get-go or leave him out of the team.

Jetta for the first time in a while did not look old and slow espcially in a one on one. Must stay.

Out: Sparrow

In: Viney (only if he is 110% ready)

Don't want Viney to be rushed back only to miss 6 games at seasons end with foot soreness.

others like hunt, rivers and jones get benefit of the doubt in my mind.

Zero chance hes the sub again.  I doubt any player would ever be sub 2 weeks in a  row especially a kid who needs to be playing for his development.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/568520/secrets-to-success-every-club-s-cbas-kick-ins-for-r1

St.Kilda's midfield vs GWS: Steele, Clark, Gresham, Bytel, Ross, Sinclair, Higgins

Quite frankly Freo's is superior: Fyfe, Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong, Mundy

Also Howard, their KPB takes the kick-ins (yes I know May takes ours) - I think this should be exploitable given the new rules.  KPF can either get outside 50 to create the turn-over mark, or get back in behind to receive a turnover kick-in when Howard follows through on the kick-in.

That’s bad news about Harmes if true. I’d have moved him to the wing for the Brad Hill job and then Viney in.

Do we take a risk and give James Jordon a run with job on Hill? Lacks the speed but will run all day. Or do we trust our system to hold up and just rotate the wingers - including Langdon who knows his game well?

The Saints counter attack really quickly from half back and hit the goal square. That’s there 2 main ingredients to success that we have to be planning for.

We don't need foot speed, we need to be better by hand and foot hitting targets moving forward. If we turn it over like we did at stages on the weekend then all the foot speed in the world will do sweet f all.

Clean things up a bit and we are right in the game.

I'd reckon that they are all underdone, as well, sadly. If we are brave, we could do with a real, unexpected surprise or two coming in against the Saints. My nobbles tell me it should be Daw and MBrown - the little 'uns must step up all over the ground and some of the previous keys should occupy and rotate the gaps such as a wing (Tomlinson) and a back pocket (Daw) and an outside mid (Kozzie), with MBrown at FFwd and Petty CHB.

Nobody will like it, but it might work surprisingly well. It creates a real (not shared) responsibility at all levels of the ground with the existing framework. It may also unsettle a pretty powerful, conventional Saints line-up.

What I don't like is that you've suggested playing M Brown, Daw and Petty but have not identified who they should replace.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
