Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not a chance in the world you would even briefly contemplate dropping Fritsch and he’s certainly a player the opposition would be weary of.

Right. And I’m tired of this pointless discussion too. Go Fritta!

Really surprised so many are picking Melksham in the team.  He has done little in the last 2 years, does not tackle, does not work hard enough, has had no preseason games/form....GET HIM IN.

I am presuming those selecting Melksham really want Goodwin to lose his job.

Melksham needs to be absolutely banging the door down with form in the reserves.  He is so far from an automatic inclusion i really wonder about some of our supporters sanity thinking he is even in the conversation for a place in the team.

I'd go no changes, Viney, Hibbo and Melk have had very limited pre-seasons and playing as fit a side as possible will serve us the best at the moment. After the job Cognilio did on Steele shows Harmes has a place, but he just needs to remember not to loose his positioning at the center bounce, which he did very well in the pre-season games. I also think Freo ddi well to stop Hunt running out of the backline, clearly seeing this as something we'd worked on in the off-season, but they shouldn't give up on that after 1 game.

And Jones?

Agree on Jetta but I'd be dropping Jones for Viney. Harmes lucky.

Agree, Viney in for Jones and Harmes stays in and follows Jack Steele around all day. If he’s not tagging I’m not sure what he offers any more.

Would not be upset with Chandler in for Sparrow either but these younger guys should be given a few games in a row, dropping after one game does nothing for development, probably stalls it if anything!

You have my vote Never.  Goes missing far too often in patches.  Rarely lays a tackle or creates a turnover with pressure inside.  While he knows where the goals and can hit a target coming inside when he's on ...its the other missing components that damage as we watch opponent waltzing out of 50 under little or no pressure.

Hard to see many changes and delighted that our coach finally gave his senior men first crack at it last week, rather than blood a youngster because he was excited about there early season form. For example the Pies went down that road with Henry this year and now have to drop him for Rd 2 - great for a kids confidence.

But agree Viney, Hibberd and Melky all have to be considered and if fully fit would all get games. With such long games again, clubs are going to have to be very careful making sure a player has major fitness background before selecting them.

If deemed fit Viney would come in for Sparrow and Hibberd would come in for Jetta most likely (Rivers and Hunt needed for Butler and Higgins), but really find it difficult choosing who would make room for Melky after that game.

Possible ins - Viney, Hibberd, Chandler

Possible outs - Jones, Hunt, Sparrow, Harmes

Saints have some smalls so Hibbo in if fit enough, he and Jetta in back pockets. Can provide dash like Hunt with better disposal and a left footer. Rivers and Salem on HBF. Out Hunt (wasn't that bad just balance)

Viney in, Sparrow can play defensive on ball and also defensive HFF or FP at times. Out Jones.

Chandler will have to wait, ANB, Kozzie and Spargo went ok.

Melksham hasn't played a decent game in 3 years, can earn it back at Casey.

Harmes gets in the right spots at times just butchers it or spuds it up. Confidence and continuity key for him. Can also play HBF. Viney in will help.

2 changes enough for mine

you make a good point. I agree with most of your points. but the reason is because our forward line is shocking. Tom Mcdonald played super well but his missed shot on goal in the 3rd quarter changed the momentum of the game and almost cost us. He isn't the dead-eye he used to be. Jackson has proven that he isn't a natural forward and only averages 0.5 goals per game over his career. He was just a pulse in a jumper for the first 3 quarters. Fritsch is good but a wasteful set shot. And spargo and Pickett don't hit the scoreboard too much. So to answer your question. I don't think it's to do with melksham per se but moreso who is currently in the team.

If you are watching the saints game now.   Get a load of how much Ratten is invested in his sides win.

He actually  gets a little excited.   Wish our coach did !

Goodwin can be criticised for a few things but having a crack at him for not barracking while he coaches, is a bit unfair.

Hunt to the wing, to give us more attacking run, something we are lacking, and Viney likewise on the ball and to take advantage of Max’s dominance. I would also seriously consider Daw to help out McDonald to help him continue his good early form.

an interesting dilemma for the Saints: if we play Daw, who does their best defender take?

I actually thought our forward line functioned quite well against a good Freo defence.  The tackling by all players in that area seemed to really step up.  If all our forwards continue that type of pressure they will all chime in with goals at various times.

Not worried about Spargo/Kossie lack of goals as they set others up with their disposal + pressure.

Fritsch looks like on any given day he could bag 5-6 goals.  He needs to nail a few more from tight angles but from what i noticed he is only ever few degrees off in accuracy, it will come.

Tmac is the best game i seen from him in nearly 2 years, hope he continues to build on form/confidence.

Majak is probably the only other forward bashing the door down atm....would love to see what he can do, surely he is in the frame to get picked this week....even if just as emergency sub!

a lot of people seem to want Jetta dropped. He actually played a pretty solid game. As long as there is a non-speedster for him to play on, he stays in the side

Exactly, my thoughts. He hasn't lost anything in those 1v1 contests but yes, needs to be kept away from faster opponents.

The Melk would be aware of this criticism and after injury, would be attempting everything he's got in footy to contrbute to the team and to play his role, if only for personal pride reasons. He has had a long time on and off the injury listings.

He is still a reasonably mobile forward and with that, experienced and adaptable,  and somewhat more trustworthy than others near goal - he is also sometimes freakish in his gathers, turns and snaps when it matters.

I'd give him a run when pitted against some of our lesser performers from the Freo game up forward. He can be dropped for more match practice, next time, if he underperforms. A bench seat sub can be catered for as we need more forward marks, mobility and goal-kicking acumen. If Petty or Daw do not play forward for some of the match against the Saints, then it might be a good opportunity for the Melk to slot in.

I don't think there will be any. It would appear the injured players who got back in last week  for Casey might get another run before the trip to Sydney the following week. Why change a winning team if the alternatives are still short of a run.

If you are going to make a change it has to be someone who is match fit , Saints are fit and tough, Viney maybe to replace Sparrow but who would Chandler replace?

Can't imagine Viney wanting to play a 3rd consecutive week of VFL

Hibberd has also played 3 VFL games and should be ready

Everyone potting Melksham is kind of laughable. Yeah he isn't our best tackler but we need his nouse around goals and delivery inside 50. Many of you acting like we're spoilt for choice in that area at the moment

Harmes needs to go.

Jetta and Jones did pretty well.

Hunt should feel nervous with Hibberd now fit.

Rivers had a shocker but keep.

Hunt is too loose in the back line but we need his run and carry ( wing is my suggestion). Put Hibbert to half back although l have question marks about his pace. Rivers on his day is class and deserves another chance. Daw l think should be seriously considered perhaps for ANB.

If you want consistent performances you need to have a relatively consistent side. Should be making 2 changes "tops". Swinging 4 changes is not a good way to provide consistency and start building cohesion.

I would move Jones to be the Sub, which I think could be a role where he excels in unless there is a specific player that is underdone.

In Viney (if fit), Out Jones (Sub)

Jackson has proven no such thing and 0.5 goals is more than Carey at the same stage of careers.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
